On the U-Shape Relationship Between Economic Development Level and Entrepreneurship

Abstract:The empirical research based on GEM(2004) data shows that there is a nonlinear U-Shape relationship between economic development level and entrepreneurial willingness.Entrepreneurial willingness will decrease at the stage of making a living and rise at the stage of seeking profit with the development of economic.However,on the basis of the cross-section data of 31 provinces,cities and autonomous regions in China,we find a linear positive correlation between economic development level and entrepreneurial willingness,which is a result of the movement of labor force factor from poor regions to relatively rich regions and of the movement of capital factor from rich regions to poor regions,so that the motive to make a living by starting a business is weakened.We conclude that the difference in relationship between economic development level and entrepreneurial willingness result in the difference in the degree of movement of the factor at home and abroad.
