Abstract:As the world becomes more connected and customer's 'needs and wants' lean more towards bespoke products, the way they are designed and manufactured must adapt. Recognised as the main driver for the future of the manufacturing value chain, Industry 4.0 (i4) is rapidly gaining momentum worldwide. One of the key enablers of the i4 design model to achieve mass customisation manufactured at a mass production cost is the computational intelligence based Computer-Automated Design (CAutoD). This paper demonstrates how CAutoD realises the i4 concept for smart design of future ships and smart ships through-life. Following an overview of the i4 and CAutoD interface, a smart ship design technique is introduced to form an automated closed-loop approach to the entire ship design process. Then, key challenges and future directions on this roadmap are discussed. Lastly, a framework in which the concepts of morphing and free-form deformation are embedded into an evolutionary algorithm is developed to automate the design and optimisation process of the hull form.

Abstract:To mitigate the high cost of integrated ship design, in this paper, we propose an innovative integrated hull design methodology utilizing artificial intelligence-aided design technology. The AIAD methodology leverages a deep neural network model constructed from multiple fidelities datasets to curtail the exponential growth in data requirements resulting from the proliferation of design variables caused by integration. Combining the proposed bump-free deformation method and optimization algorithms with the multi-fidelity deep network, the AIAD-based design approach facilitates the achievement of optimal hull design solutions with remarkable fidelity while minimizing design workload. Utilizing the developed design method, we performed a numerical test on integrated-hull design for container ships. Through a comparative analysis and sensitive analysis of design results and workload, the optimized results obtained demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed AIAA integrated-hull design methodology in achieving optimal designs while preserving high fidelity and low workload. The proposed new approach has shown promises to expedite ship integrated-hull design, addressing the longstanding issue of its high cost.

Abstract:Trenching and embedment are important measures to increase the subsea pipeline’s on-bottom stability and the ways to protect pipeline. To ensure safety during the trenching operation, the mooring analysis of the engineering ship is necessary before construction. The typical mooring analysis of trencher engineering ship is analyzed using MOSES software, and the basic calculate method is stated. Furthermore, the influences of variations of wave parameters, mooring parameters and ship radius of inertia to mooring system are analyzed. The influence curves are got, and the laws are summarized, which have guiding significance for similar engineering ships.

Abstract:Abstract The development of ship intelligent manufacturing is divided into three stages of digital, networked and intelligent manufacturing. In the digital manufacturing stage, shipbuilding enterprises strengthen the relationship between manufacturing and design to improve the efficiency of manufacturing. In the networked manufacturing stage, shipbuilding enterprises use the internet of things technology to improve the controllability in the production process and effectively enhance the coordination and cooperation between machines and persons. In the intelligent manufacturing stage, shipbuilding enterprises let the new generation of artificial intelligence technology run through the design, management, service and production, greatly improving the flexibility of manufacturing. This paper studies the application model of industrial design system in ship design, the application model of internet of things technology in the production control of shipbuilding enterprises, and the application model of new generation artificial intelligence technology in intelligent decision support, which makes a preliminary exploration for the intelligent development of shipbuilding enterprises.

Abstract:As an important target of containership,the mid-ship section can well reflect the transportation ability and containers' arrangement,so it has always attracted designers' attention.This paper studied the design,optimization and 3 D modeling of mid-ship section based on Visual Basic and Access.The arrangement of the new ship can be got by topology of the mother-ship's.On the basis of structural information of mother ships,the structural information of new ship can by got by interpolation method according to rules formulations,then the genetic algorithm is adopted for optimization of key structures and it converges well.Compared with the design obtained by Rules method,the one by Interpolation method considers both the rules and design experience of experts,so it is more reasonable.Besides,3D model is built in Tribon by Python program,which enhances man-machine interaction and makes the result easy for designers to modify.

Abstract:Ship superstructures, as typical examples of non-standard design elements, require diverse structural geometric designs and frequent adaptations to meet evolving demands and simulation requirements during the detail design process. However, the utilization of current ship computer-aided design (CAD) systems for detail design presents several limitations, and traditional parametric methods often fall short in complex geometric parameterization. This paper proposed intelligent templates via knowledge-based engineering (KBE) to enhance CAD models' robustness and applicability. The study focused on three specific geometric problems that restrict the validity of parameterization: varying types of input conditions, multiple solutions in offsets and arc fillets, and non-topological transformations. Three representative structural component templates were developed on CATIA V6, showcasing effectiveness compared to traditional methods through a ship design task. Furthermore, this approach provides the basis for the implementation of modular design, design automation, and integrated design simulation.

Abstract:The layout design of ship engine room belongs to the multi-objective optimization design problem in confined space. This paper proposes an intelligent three-dimensional (3D) layout optimization design method of ship engine room based on the combination of knowledge-based engineering (KBE) and intelligent optimization algorithm. Firstly, the initial 3D layout scheme of engine room equipment is automatically obtained by the KBE method including knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation and knowledge reasoning. Then the multi-objective optimization of ship engine room layout is performed by the simulated annealing algorithm (SAA) to acquire the optimal design scheme. The classification rules of ship engine room are established to improve the efficiency of knowledge acquisition. The rule of adding the virtual area is proposed to control the equipment spacing. The parametric assembly is used to complete knowledge reasoning. Three expert verification rules including heeling moment, interference inspection and escape time are established for the generated layout scheme. Finally, a case study result verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. The visualization and automation of the 3D layout for ship engine room are successfully realized.

Abstract:The work presents a knowledge-based engineering (KBE) methodology for ship hull structural member design. In the ship design process, many design tasks need the expertise or design experiences to support them. However, the ship design procedure is a complicated process with many labor-intensive activities. Therefore it is necessary to integrate intelligent design process into ship design. An application developed in a KBE system takes design requirements, applies the knowledge stored in the knowledge base and generates a new design automatically. Knowledge-based engineering methods for ship design are put forward, which combine with the theory of intelligent design. A ship deck design case illustrates the feasibility of the proposed approach. The KBE technology provides appropriate suggestions and support, integrates the information, to avoid conflict and errors. Besides, it also achieves knowledge reuse and accumulation, provides reliable technical support for ship design quality, significantly reduces the design cycle, and promotes working efficiency.

Abstract:In view of the increasing competition of world shipyards,the quality and efficiency of ship design will directly affect the enterprise's innovation and competition.In this research,to support repetitively or time-consuming steps of ship design process,knowledge-based engineering techniques can be applied.This method works combination the principles of knowledge-based engineering with the theory of intelligent design.It analyses the ways of ship design knowledge acquisition,representation and management,building product standards library and design knowledge base to carry out the research.Through this technology,it can realize the parametric and feature drive,check the design of parts in products,and give design proposals instantly to designer to reduce design time and manufacture costs.The example of deck design shows that the integration of advanced knowledge-based engineering(KBE)methods into ship design helps company's design knowledge and optimization methods to accumulate and inherit,provides a reliable technical support for the quality of products design,significantly reduces the product design cycle,easily changes the design of parts,and promotes working efficiency.

Abstract:Dynamically installed anchors (DIAs) are considered to be one of the most efficient mooring solutions for taut mooring systems. During their installation, DIAs are released from a certain height above the seabed and reach high velocities (up to 35 m/s) before impacting the seabed. However, a potential issue with DIA installation is that the anchor may not remain completely vertical during descent, resulting in the anchor impacting the seabed at an oblique angle and a significant reduction in holding capacity. To address this issue, this paper proposes a new numerical model for DIAs with attached mooring lines, which can consider the forces acting on anchors and mooring lines. A total of 176 numerical simulations were conducted under different initial configurations of mooring lines, and 128 simulations were performed, taking into account the influence of the horizontal motion of Anchor Handling Vessels (AHV). By comparing the velocity, embedment depth and tilting angle, possible combinations of the mooring line configurations in situ were back-analyzed. The simulations results show that the presence of the mooring line significantly reduces the final penetration depth of the anchor, and that the proposed installation model accurately simulates the change process of velocity and displacement during installation. Additionally, when DIAs impact the seabed at an inclined state, the tilting angle will increase due to soil resistance on the anchor tip. Finally, the initial state of the DIA at release is influenced by the horizontal motion of the AHV, which can influence the tilting mechanism of the DIA.

Abstract:According to current situation of the ship automation and ship building industry in China,the necessity to research and to develop integrated ship control system is analyzed in this paper.The structure of ship control system and the disadvantages of the traditional control system are introduced.Then a design plan of control system based on distributed control units is proposed and analyzed.Finally,based on the Supcon Web Field ECS-100,a simulation system of integrated ship control is implemented.Test results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the design plan.

Abstract:Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE) is introduced into the ship structural design in this paper. From the implementation of KBE, the design solutions for both Rules Design Method (RDM) and Interpolation Design Method (IDM) are generated. The corresponding Finite Element (FE) models are generated. Topological design of the longitudinal structures is studied where the Gaussian Process (GP) is employed to build the surrogate model for FE analysis. Multi-objective optimization methods inspired by Pareto Front are used to reduce the design tank weight and outer surface area simultaneously. Additionally, an enhanced Level Set Method (LSM) which employs implicit algorithm is applied to the topological design of typical bracket plate which is used extensively in ship structures. Two different sets of boundary conditions are considered. The proposed methods show satisfactory efficiency and accuracy.

Abstract:The research study proposes to examine a three-dimensional visualization program, emphasizing on improving genetic algorithms through the optimization of a layout design-based standard and discrete shipbuilding workshop. By utilizing a steel processing workshop as an example, the principle of minimum logistic costs will be implemented to obtain an ideological equipment layout, and a mathematical model. The objectiveness is to minimize the total necessary distance traveled between machines. An improved control operator is implemented to improve the iterative efficiency of the genetic algorithm, and yield relevant parameters. The Computer Aided Tri-Dimensional Interface Application (CATIA) software is applied to establish the manufacturing resource base and parametric model of the steel processing workshop. Based on the results of optimized planar logistics, a visual parametric model of the steel processing workshop is constructed, and qualitative and quantitative adjustments then are applied to the model. The method for evaluating the results of the layout is subsequently established through the utilization of AHP. In order to provide a mode of reference to the optimization and layout of the digitalized production workshop, the optimized discrete production workshop will possess a certain level of practical significance.

Abstract:In order to solve the integration problem of lifting point layout, 3D dynamic simulation and safety assessment, a multi-functional integrated design system for ship lifting process is developed. Based on the discrete data extracted from AM model (The three-dimensional ship block created through AVEVA Marine), lifting process information and lifting equipment information, this paper develops an automatic design module with the optimization algorithm of lifting point layout as the core, and retains the interactive design module. To solve the problem of automatic finite element mesh generation, the proposed system uses the highly reliable AFT-Delaunay algorithm as the finite element mesh generation algorithm. In addition, the proposed system combines the control algorithm, unit calculation and constitutive calculation extension interface to build a finite element analysis framework. Taking the deck block of a crude oil tanker as an example, this paper compares the functions of commercial finite element software MSC.NASTRAN and the proposed system in the finite element calculation results, mesh generation and finite element visualization. The comparison results shows that the proposed system has reached a level comparable to MSC.NASTRAN in the safety evaluation of block lifting.

Abstract:In this paper,three-dimension structural design of the cargo holds of a container ship is realized based on NAPA Steel with the output of two-dimension CAD drawings.At the same time,the initial finite element model is directly produced on the basis of designed structure model,then the FE model is modified according to CCS rules requested.MSC.Nastran is applied to the strength analysis and calculation of buckling to obtain the detailed results of the structural deformation and stress.The structural design is improved according to the assessment results.Compared with the traditional two-dimension structural design pattern,three-dimension structureal design method based on commercial softwares can improve the quality and efficiency of the design effectively.

Abstract:The berthing maneuver is the most delicate and difficult but important phase in ship's navigation.The advent of huge vessels and the decrease of crewed people on board have made it more difficult and more complicated than ever.Thus the problem of automatic berthing is an open one in ship control.At the same time,the surface vessel belongs to a complicated and underactuated nonlinear system.The traditional plan to control the system couldn't meet the requirements.On the base of RTK and ethernet technique,this paper proposed a plan on ship automatic berthing system,and pointed out a new development trend in ship nonlinear control research,that is,a logic-based hybrid control and its applications to ship automatic berthing.The results are useful to the ship automatic berthing system in engineering implement.
A Mooring System Deployment Design Methodology for Vessels at Varying Water Depths

Abstract:In this paper, a methodology for designing mooring system deployment for vessels at varying water depths is proposed. The Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is combined with a self-dependently developed vessel-mooring coupled program to find the optimal mooring system deployment considering both station-keeping requirements and the safety of the mooring system. Two case studies are presented to demonstrate the methodology by designing the mooring system deployments for a very large floating structure (VLFS) module and a semi-submersible platform respectively at three different water depths. It can be concluded from the obtained results that the mooring system can achieve a better station-keeping ability with relatively shorter mooring line when deployed in the shallow water. The safety factor of mooring line is mainly dominated by the maximum instantaneous tension increment in the shallow water, while the pre-tension has a decisive influence on the safety factor of the mooring line in the deep water.
