Abstract:This study aimed at investigating the relationship between speciation and bioleaching extraction rate of heavy metals in copper mine tailings collected from Yangla Copper Mine. We first measured the total concentrations of Cu (2370 mg/kg), Cd (32.885 mg/kg), Zn (845.6 mg/kg), As (6725.7505 mg/kg) in the tailing sample. Then the optimized Dold sequential extraction procedure was applied to assess heavy metals fractionation in samples, and the results showed that the percentages of available form of Cu, Cd, Zn, As contained in tailing sample were 32.5%, 11.2%, 22.3%, and 1.0%, respectively, indicating that the amounts of easy mobile fractions of metals were small and the bioleaching extraction rates would be relatively low and undesirable. And the subsequent bioleaching extraction rates of Cu, Cd, Zn, As were 24.4%, 34.2%, 29.0%, 8.6%, which were certainly not desirable confirming the sequential extraction results. What should be noticed was that except for the leaching rate of Cu, leaching rates of all other metals were greater than their own rate of available form, suggesting that part of primary sulfides could be utilized by leaching bacteria, and further indicating that bioleaching technology is not suitable for primary sulfide ores.
