Abstract:In this paper, we define a simplicial complement P = {sigma(1), sigma(2), ..., sigma(s)} to be a sequence of subsets of [m] and prove that the simplicial complement P corresponds to an unique simplicial complex K-P with vertices in [m]. Then, we define the homology algebra of a simplicial complement H-i,H-sigma(Lambda *(,)* [P], d) over a principal ideal domain k and prove that H-*,(*)(Lambda [P], d) is isomorphic to the Tor-algebra of the corresponding face ring k(K-P) by the Taylor resolution. This gives an algorithm for the cohomology algebraic structure of the moment-angle complex by the isomorphism H* (Z(KP), k) congruent to Tor(*),(k[x])(*) (k(KP), k). As applications of the simplicial complement, we also give methods to compute the cohomology of the moment-angle complex corresponding to a link and star link(KP) sigma, star(KP) sigma and the cohomology modules of the polyhedral products as well.

Abstract:A fundamental result in toric topology identifies the cohomology ring of the moment-angle complex $\mathcal{Z}_K$ associated to a simplicial complex $K$ with the Koszul homology of the Stanley--Reisner ring of $K$. By studying cohomology operations induced by the standard torus action on the moment-angle complex, we extend this to a topological interpretation of the minimal free resolution of the Stanley-Reisner ring. The exterior algebra module structure in cohomology induced by the torus action recovers the linear part of the minimal free resolution, and we show that higher cohomology operations induced by the action (in the sense of Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson) can be assembled into an explicit differential on the resolution. Describing these operations in terms of Hochster's formula, we recover and extend a result due to Katthän. We then apply all of this to study the equivariant formality of torus actions on moment-angle complexes. For these spaces, we obtain complete algebraic and combinatorial characterisations of which subtori of the naturally acting torus act equivariantly formally.

Abstract:We extend the construction of moment-angle complexes to simplicial posets by associating a certain Tm-space ZS to an arbitrary simplicial poset S on m vertices. Face rings ℤ[S] of simplicial posets generalise those of simplicial complexes, and give rise to new classes of Gorenstein and Cohen-Macaulay rings. Our primary motivation is to study the face rings ℤ[S] by topological methods. The space ZS has many important topological properties of the original moment-angle complex ZK associated to a simplicial complex K. In particular, we prove that the integral cohomology algebra of ZS is isomorphic to the Tor-algebra of the face ring ℤ[S]. This leads directly to a generalisation of Hochster’s theorem, expressing the algebraic Betti numbers of the ring ℤ[S] in terms of the homology of full subposets in S. Finally, we estimate the total amount of homology of ZS from below by proving the toral rank conjecture for the moment-angle complexes ZS.

Abstract:The motivation for this paper comes from the Halperin–Carlsson conjecture for (real) moment-angle complexes. We first give an algebraic combinatorics formula for the Möbius transform of an abstract simplicial complex K on [m]={1,…,m} in terms of the Betti numbers of the Stanley–Reisner face ring k(K) of K over a field k. We then employ a way of compressing K to provide the lower bound on the sum of those Betti numbers using our formula. Next we consider a class of generalized moment-angle complexes $\mathcal{Z}_{K}^{(\underline{\mathbb{ D}}, \underline{\mathbb{ S}})}$, including the moment-angle complex $\mathcal{Z}_{K}$ and the real moment-angle complex $\mathbb{R}\mathcal {Z}_{K}$ as special examples. We show that $H^{*}(\mathcal{Z}_{K}^{(\underline{\mathbb{ D}}, \underline{\mathbb{ S}})};\mathbf{k})$ has the same graded k-module structure as Tor k[v](k(K),k). Finally we show that the Halperin–Carlsson conjecture holds for $\mathcal{Z}_{K}$ (resp. $\mathbb{ R}\mathcal{Z}_{K}$) under the restriction of the natural T m -action on $\mathcal{Z}_{K}$ (resp. (ℤ2) m -action on $\mathbb{ R}\mathcal{Z}_{K}$).

Abstract:Building on the recent computation of the cohomology rings of smooth toric varieties and partial quotients of moment-angle complexes, we investigate the naturality properties of the resulting isomorphism between the cohomology of such a space and the torsion product involving the Stanley-Reisner ring. If 2 is invertible in the chosen coefficient ring, then the isomorphism is natural with respect to toric morphisms, which for partial quotients are defined in analogy with toric varieties. In general there are deformation terms that we describe explicitly.

Abstract:We develop a general homological approach to presentations of connected graded associative algebras, and apply it to the loop homology of moment-angle complexes $Z_K$ that correspond to flag simplicial complexes $K$. For arbitrary coefficient ring, we describe generators of the Pontryagin algebra $H_*(\Omega Z_K)$ and defining relations between them. We prove that such moment-angle complexes are coformal over $\mathbb{Q},$ give a necessary condition for rational formality, and compute their homotopy groups in terms of homotopy groups of spheres.

The geometric realization of regular path complexes via (co-)homology

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to give the geometric realization of regular path complexes via (co)homology groups with coefficients in a ring R. Concretely, for each regular path complex P, we associate it with a singular Δ-complex S(P) and show that the (co)homology groups of P are isomorphic to those of S(P) with coefficients in R. As a direct result we recognize path (co)homology as Hochschild (co)homology in case that R is commutative and P regular finite. Analogues of the Eilenberg-Zilber theorem and Künneth formula are also showed for the Cartesian product and the join of two regular path complexes. In fact, we meanwhile improve some previous results which are covered by these conclusions in this paper.

Abstract:Similarities are noted in two Mayer-Vietoris spectral sequences that generalize to any number of ideals in the Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence in local cohomology for two ideals. One has as first terms Čech cohomology with respect to sums of the given ideals and converge to cohomology with respect to the product of the ideals, the other has as first terms Čech cohomology with respect to products of the given ideals and converge to cohomology with respect to the sum of the ideals. The first one was obtained by Lyubeznik in \cite{Lyu}, while the second is constructed in \cite[Chapter 2]{Hol} and could also be deduced from results in \cite{God}. We present results on the cohomology of multiple complexes that enables us to deduce both from two related constructions on multiple complexes. A key ingredient is a fact that seems not to have been noticed before: cohomology with respect to a product of ideals is the one of a subcomplex of the Čech complex computing cohomology with respect to the sum of the given ideals; this provides a much shorter complex to compute cohomology with respect to the product of ideals.

Abstract:If two conical symplectic resolutions $X\to X_0$ and $X^!\to X_0^!$ are symplectic dual, the cohomology ring $H^*(X)$ and the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{C}^*$-fixed points in $X_0^!$ are expected to be isomorphic as graded algebras. This statement is called Hikita conjecture and it is known that the conjecture holds for some cases. In this paper, we deal with the cohomology of framed moduli spaces over the projective plane and the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{C}^*$- fixed points of $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/((\mathbb{Z}/r\mathbb{Z})\wr S_n) $ and show that these are isomorphic as graded vector spaces.

The de Rham cohomology of the algebra of polynomial functions on a simplicial complex

Abstract:We consider the algebra $A^0 (X)$ of polynomial functions on a simplicial complex $X$. The algebra $A^0 (X)$ is the $0$th component of Sullivan's dg-algebra $A^\bullet (X)$ of polynomial forms on $X$. Our main interest lies in computing the de Rham cohomology of the algebra $A^0(X)$, that is, the cohomology of the universal dg-algebra $\Omega ^\bullet _{A^0(X)}$. There is a canonical morphism of dg-algebras $P:\Omega ^\bullet _{A^0(X)} \to A^\bullet (X)$. We prove that $P$ is a quasi-isomorphism. Therefore, the de Rham cohomology of the algebra $A^0 (X)$ is canonically isomorphic to the cohomology of the simplicial complex $X$ with coefficients in $k$. Moreover, for $k=\mathbb{Q}$ the dg-algebra $\Omega ^\bullet _{A^0 (X)}$ is a model of the simplicial complex $X$ in the sense of rational homotopy theory.

Abstract:In this note, integral cohomology of homotopy colimits for toric diagrams and their classifying spaces over regular CW posets are described in terms of sheaf cohomology. Split $T$-CW-complexes with CW orbit poset $C$ have such decomposition (up to a homeomorphism) in terms of a $T$-diagram $D$ over $C$. Equivariant formality for $hocolim\ D$ is equivalent to $H^{odd}(hocolim\ D)=0$ (over $\mathbb{Q}$, or over $\mathbb{Z}$ for connected stabilizers) provided that $C$ is an oriented homology manifold. The integral singular cohomology groups and bigraded Betti numbers are computed in this setting. Similar descriptions are provided for skeleta of toric manifolds and compact nonsingular toric varieties. The cohomological orbit spectral sequence collapse over $\mathbb{Z}$ at page $2$ is proved for any compact toric variety.

Diffuse radio emission in a REFLEX cluster

Abstract:Deep Very Large Array radio observations are presented for the REFLEX clusters RXCJ0437.1+0043 and RXCJ1314.4-2515. They are at similar distance and show similar X-ray luminosity, but they are quite different in X-ray structure. Indeed RXCJ0437.1+0043 is regular and relaxed, whereas RXCJ1314.4-2515 is characterized by substructure and possible merging processes. The radio images reveal no diffuse emission in RXCJ0437.1+0043, and a complex diffuse structure in RXCJ1314.4-2515. The diffuse source in the latter cluster consists of a central radio halo which extends to the West toward the cluster periphery and bends to the North to form a possible relic. Another extended source is detected in the eastern cluster peripheral region. Although there could be plausible optical identifications for this source, it might also be a relic candidate owing to its very steep spectrum. The present results confirm the tight link between diffuse cluster radio sources and cluster merger processes.

Abstract:The original de Rham cohomology due to Souriau and the singular cohomology in diffeology are not isomorphic to each other in general. This manuscript introduces a singular de Rham complex endowed with an integration map into the singular cochain complex which gives the de Rham theorem for every diffeological space. It is also proved that a morphism called the factor map from the original de Rham complex to the new one is a quasi-isomorphism for a manifold and, more general, a space with singularities. Moreover, Chen's iterated integrals are considered in a diffeological framework. As a consequence, we deduce that the bar complex of the original de Rham complex of a simply-connected diffeological space is quasi-isomorphic to the singular de Rham complex of the diffeological free loop space provided the factor map for the underlying diffeological space is a quasi-isomorphism. The process for proving the assertion yields the Leray--Serre spectral sequence and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequence in diffeology.

Abstract:Let I and J be two ideals of a commutative ring R. We introduce the concepts of the Cˇech complex and Cˇech cocomplex with respect to (I,J) and investigate their homological properties. In addition, we show that local cohomology and local homology with respect to (I,J) are expressed by the above complexes. Moreover, we provide a proof for the Matlis–Greenless–May equivalence with respect to (I,J), which is an equivalence between the category of derived (I,J)-torsion complexes and the category of derived (I,J)-completion complexes. As an application, we use local cohomology and the Cˇech complex with respect to (I,J) to prove Grothendieck's local duality theorem for unbounded complexes.
