Expressions of NF-κB and Upa in Human Cerebral Glioma

Abstract:Objective To explore the expression of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator(uPA) in human cerebral gliomas and their effect on the invasive growth and malignant development of human cerebral glioma.Methods The expressions and distribution of NF-κB and uPA were determined by immunohistochemical technique(SP) in 52 cases of human cerebral gliomas and 5 cases of normal brain tissues.Results The expressions of NF-κB and uPA were not observed in the normal brain tissues.The NF-κB expression in 41 of 52 cases of the gliomas was positive.The positive expression rate of NF-κB in the high grade gliomas was significantly higher than that in the low grade ones(P0.01).The expression of uPA was observed in 52 cases of the glioma.The intensities of NF-κB and uPA expressions were significantly higher in the high grade gliomas than those in the low grade ones(P0.01).The expression of NF-κB was positively related to that of uPA in human cerebral gliomas(r=0.542,P0.01) Conclusion The activation of NF-κB can promote the expression of uPA,by which the invasion and malignant development of human cerebral gliomas are promoted.
