Expression of protein kinase C(∮) in glioma patients

Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of protein kinase C(∮) (PKC(∮)) in glioma patients and its relation to grade of malignancy and the prognosis of these patients.Methods SP method and Western blotting was used for investigation of the expression of PKC(∮) in glioma tissues and the adjacent non-cancerous tissues.The relationship between these expressions of PKC(∮)and the living status of the patients was assessed by univariate survival analysis.Results The expression rate was increased in accordance with the degree of pathological grade of the gliomas,and PKC(∮) was hardly detected in adjacent noncancerous tissues,and a significant difference in survival time was observed between patients with negative and positive expression respectively ( P ＜ 0.05 ),indicating that the prognosis of patients with negative PKC(∮) expression was more favorable than patients with PKC(∮) positive expression.Conclusion PKC(∮) expression in gliomas is positively associated with the pathological grades of gliomas,PKC(∮) positive patients have poor profnosis,suggesting that PKC(∮)may be involved in the tumorigenesis and progression of gliomas.
