Abstract:Aim To improve the preparation method for O -isopropylidene carbohydrate derivatives.Methods 2% Crosslinked polystyrene-supported FeCl 3 (PS-FeCl 3, 31.3 mg FeCl 3/g resin) can be used to catalyze the acetonation of various carbohydrates. Results and conclusion This method consists of a very simple and economic experimental procedure,in which the polystyrene-supported FeCl 3 catalyst can be readily recovered and reused.Reaction with carbohydrates led to the convenient formation of O -isopropylidene carbohydrate derivatives in 70%～90% yield.

Abstract:Model reaction of alpha-D-glucopyranosyl trimethylsilyl ether 1 with a series of acids demonstrated that stereocontrolled glucosyl transfer with the retention of configuration at the anomeric center is best carried out in dichloromethane at room temperature with boron trifluoride-ether as a Lewis acid catalyst. Under these conditions, 1-O-acyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoses were obtained in good yield.

Abstract:The mixture of 3,6-di-O-acetyl-4-O-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β-d-galactopyranosyl)-2-azido-2-deoxy-d-glucopyranosyl 1-acetates or 1-trichloroacetates and the corresponding mannose type glycosyl donors reacted with the spacer arms di- and triethylene glycol, in dichloromethane solution with BF3·OEt2 and TMSOTf as promotors at room temperature to give highly selective products. Only the mannose type products were obtained.

Abstract:A hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)-promoted hydroxydifluoromethylation of aniline, indole, and pyrrole derivatives with difluoroacetaldehyde ethyl hemiacetal has been developed. This protocol provides a facile and straightforward approach to access diverse difluoromethylated carbinols in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Furthermore, gram-scale and synthetic derivatization experiments have also been demonstrated.

Abstract:In the presence of BF3. OEt2, 1-O-trimethylsilyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-alpha -D-mannopyranose (1) reacted stereoselectively with a series of carboxylic acids to give the corresponding a-mannosyl carboxylates in good yields. The configuration of products was assigned mainly by H-1-NMR spectra (delta (H1) and (3)J(1,2)).A few glycosyl carboxylates have been found in nature and they show a series of important biological activities(1)). There have been numerous attempts to prepare them(2)).In the previous paper(3)), we have reported that 1-O-trimethylsilyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-alpha -D-glucopyranose reacted with carboxylic acids to give the 1-O-alpha -acyl-D-glucopyranose with high stereoselectivity in good yield (58.8-84.0%). Now. we used the same method for the synthesis of mannosyl carboxylates. It is a highly stereoselective approach for the preparation of 1-O-acyl-D-mannopyranose with the intermediate 1.

Abstract:The mixture of 3,6-di-O-acetyl-4-O-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D- galactopyranosyl)-2-azido-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranosyl acetates or trichloroacetates and the corresponding mannose type glycosyl donors reacted with spacer arms of di- and triethylene glycol in the solution of dichloromethanc with BF3·Et2O and TMSOTf as promoters at room temperature gave highly selective products. Abstract:The synthesis of 2, 4-diisopropyl-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane through the acetalization of isobutyraldehyde with 2, 2, 4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol (TMPD) catalyzed by the novel carbon based acid was first carried out. High conversion (≥98%) and specific selectivity were obtained using the novel carbon based acid, which kept high activity after it was reused 5 times. Moreover, the catalyst could be used to catalyze the acetalization and ketalization of different aldehydes and ketones with superior yield. The yield of several products was over 90%. The novel heterogeneous catalyst has the distinct advantages of high activity, strikingly simple workup procedure, non-pollution, and reusability, which will contribute to the success of the green process greatly.

Abstract:A highly efficient and mild method for the de-O-benzylation of protected saccharides was developed by transforming terminal benzyl ethers into silyl ethers using Co-2(CO)(8)-Et3SiH under 1 atm of CO. The method was successfully used for the de-O-benzylation of perbenzylated monosaccharides with various anomeric protecting groups, as well as natural disaccharides and trisaccharides such as sucrose, raffinose, and melezitose in good yields (>80%).

Abstract:A stepwise isopropylation reaction of acetone is developed for preparation of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) through acetone condensation and a recoverable Pt/C-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of mesityl oxide (MO) with isopropanol (IPA). Almost quantitative MO conversion (up to 99.9%) and excellent MIBK selectivity (up to 99.3%) could be achieved by the method. Since IPA can be obtained from propane, a cheap petrochemical product, the by-product acetone (AT) generated in the reduction of MO could be easily recovered and reused in the preparation of MO, and the Pt/C catalyst could be recycled and reused, this H-2-and waste-free reaction may be a green and practical method for preparation of the useful fine chemical MIBK. Abstract:A new method for cleaving methyl ethers off protected saccharides using Co2(CO)8/Et3SiH/CO system was developed. The method showed regioselectivity in different protected monosaccharides with various anomeric groups. The primary and equatorial secondary methyl ethers were preferentially removed. This method was successfully applied to the synthesis of the DEF trisaccharide segment of Idraparinux, which is highly methylated.

Abstract:This paper describes a mild and efficient catalytic deprotection method for isopropylidene ketals and benzylidene acetals using AcOH/H 2 O/DME(1,2-Dimethoxyethane). The method effectively removes ketal and acetal protecting groups from 2-deoxyglycosides which are prone to hydrolysis under acidic conditions. Moreover, it enables the selective removal of the terminal ketal over an internal one.

Abstract:This study aimed to optimize the per‐O‐acetylation, deacetylation, and benzylidene protection of carbohydrates and investigate the scope of saccharides via alum‐catalysis. Initially, optimization was based on the previously reported PTA‐catalyzed acetylation of glucose, but alum‐catalysis required heating conditions. The study expanded to investigate the per‐O‐acetylation of different saccharides, including galactose and mannose, which produced stereoisomeric mixtures. The study proposed a plausible reaction mechanism for the isomerization observed in galactose and xylose after acetylation. The mechanism involved chelation of the active alum‐catalyst with the O‐6 position and β‐type O‐1 position of galactopyranose to form a transition state complex via ring opening. This study investigated the generality of the de‐O‐acetylation method on a variety of carbohydrates using per‐O‐acetyl saccharide substrates bearing different functional groups. The direct protection of benzylidene in addition to acetylation/de‐O‐acetylation with a focus on optimizing reaction conditions for the synthesis of carbohydrate derivatives. Overall, the study offers insights into optimizing de‐acetylation, per‐O‐acetylation, and benzylidene protection investigating the scope of saccharides via alum‐catalysis.

Abstract:The reversible reaction of the hydroxyl groups in cellulose with CO2 in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) results in a rapid and effective derivative dissolution of cellulose in DMSO, by which a series of cellulose acetate propionate (CAP) and cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) with various degrees of substitution (DS) were synthesized controllably without adding external catalysts. Wherein DBU not only achieves the dissolution of cellulose, but also acts as an efficient organocatalyst for the subsequent cellulose derivatization. The DS of CAB and CAP can be tuned by changing the feed molar ratio of propionic (butyric) anhydride/acetic anhydride and the reaction temperature. The structural and thermal properties of the products were characterized by several analytical techniques including NMR, FT-IR, and TGA. The CO2/DBU/DMSO dissolution system provides a new platform for controllable synthesis of mixed cellulose esters with high efficiency under mild conditions.

Abstract:A synthetic method of dialkylideneacetones has been developed. Compared with known protocols, the method employed catalytic Ca(OH)2 as the cheap, mild base catalyst and dilute aqueous EtOH (20%, v/v) as the green and safe solvent. The procedure was easily operated: In most cases, the product could be isolated by a simple filtration, and purified by washing with water. This paper provided experimental details of the reactions, which could be applied in gram-scale synthesis and should be a very reliable and practical protocol to prepare these useful compounds in laboratory and at the industrial level.

Abstract:A novel and applicable method for the preparation of various carbamates via a palladium‐catalyzed carbonylation reaction was developed. In the absence of fluorine sources, a wide range of nitroarenes and siloxanes are readily reacted to give the corresponding carbamates in yields ranging from 23% to 97% using Mo(CO)6 as both the reducing agent and the carbonyl source. Mechanistic experiments indicated that isocyanate was found to be a critical intermediate in the overall reaction.

Abstract:A new approach to synthesis of beta-ketoester derivatives was reported. As a key starting material in the synthesis of neuroprotective agents and HIV-1 RT inhibitors, Ethyl 3-oxo-(+/-)-6,7-di-O-isopropylidene-6,7-dihydroxyheptanoate (1) was conveniently synthesized from (+/-)-solketal and ethyl acetoacetate sodium salt through four steps of reactions. An attempt to prepare the target compound I by the reaction of tosylate solketal 2 and dianion of ethyl acetoacetate was unsuccessful. The structure of all compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and MS spectra.

Abstract:Toluene is a basic chemical that is currently produced from petroleum resources. In this paper, we report a new route for the effective synthesis of toluene from isoprene and acrolein, two reactants readily available from biomass, through a simple two-step reaction. The process includes Diels-Alder cycloaddition of isoprene and acrolein in a Zn-containing ionic liquid at room temperature to produce methylcyclohex-3-enecarbaldehydes (MCHCAs) as intermediates, followed by M (M = Pt, Pd, Rh)/Al2O3-catalyzed consecutive dehydrogenation-decarbonylation of the MCHCAs at 573 K to generate toluene with an overall yield up to 90.7 %. Model reactions indicated that a synergistic inductive effect of the C=C double bond and the aldehyde group in MCHCA plays a key role in initiating the consecutive dehydrogenation-decarbonylation, and that methyl benzaldehydes are the key intermediates in the gas-phase transformation of MCHCAs. Microcalorimetric adsorption of CO on different catalysts showed that decarbonylation of the substrate occurs more likely on the strong adsorption sites. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report of Pt/Al2O3-catalyzed consecutive dehydrogenation-decarbonylation of a given compound in one reactor. This work provides a highly efficient and environmental friendly route to toluene by utilizing two compounds that can be prepared from biomass.
