Abstract:Objective To compare the anesthetic efficacy on the spinal anesthesia of levobupivacaine and bupivacaine in elderly patients undergoing transurethral prostate surgery.Method Forty ASA classⅠ-Ⅲ patients,65-91 years old, undergoing transurethral prostate surgery, were randomly allocated into 2 groups, receiving spinal anesthesia with either 0.5% levobupivacaine 1.5 ml(group L,n=20)or 0.5% bupivacaine 1.5 ml(group B,n=20).Nerve blockage parameters included that the peak sensory block level, the time to reach the peak sensory block level, the time of sensory block regression, the time of motor block were measured and recorded.Hemodynamic parameters and adverse effects were recorded as well. Results The time to reach the peak sensory block level, and to maximum motor block were significantly shorter in group B compared with group L(P<0.05).In group B,mean arterial pressure was significantly lower than that in group L,starting from 10 min until 30 min after injection(P<0.05).The incidence of hypotension and nausea were higher than that in group L(P<0.05).Conclusion Because of levobupivaocine has a better haemodynamic stability and fewer side-effects,it may be preferred for spinal anaesthesia in elderly patients.
