Abstract:Entrepreneurship education has a close bearing on social and economic progress. In recent years, there is a strong wave of technological revolution induced by mobile Internet, later government giving rise to related policies that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. However, Chinese universities are still remaining in a stage of exploring and developing time that entrepreneurship education nurtures social and economic development, which we call Entrepreneurship education 1.0 phase. This study proposes the concept of Entrepreneurship Education 2.0. Based on the large-scale survey of innovation and entrepreneurship at Stanford University (2012), it analyses the experience and inspiration of Stanford leading global pioneer in Entrepreneurship Education 2.0 phase from three aspects including sources, institutional guarantee and social and economic influence of entrepreneurship education for the purpose of strategically improving the recognition of entrepreneurship education’s contribution to society and economy and taking measures for Chinese universities to step into Entrepreneurship education 2.0.

Abstract:In recent years,studies on the impact of internet on civil society in China become a heated field.We review present studies and point out their weaknesses here in a critical and reflective way.First,thanks to NGOs' contribution in 2008 Wenchuan great earthquake,many scholars overestimate the development of civil society in China;second,under western centrism and technological determinism,they simply interpret the internet as a platform for social forces to challenge the state;third,as to the issue of web public sphere,thinness of theoretical resources,inadequate inquiries of group polarization,and simplistic understanding of rationality in online discussion are major drawbacks.At last,to further the research,we propose some approaches:multiply theoretical foundations,shift research perspectives,explore new research methods and select proper methodology consciously and reflectively.

Abstract:Chinese netizens have been playing an inevitable role in the deveopment of Internet in China.At present,they have been showing a number of typical characteristics,which have not only exerted much influence on the development path of the Chinese Internet,but also reflected to a certain extent the complicated process of our Chinese society.The present typical characteristics of netizens in Mainland China find their expression mainly in the following aspects.Firstly,they show such characterisitc demands and desires as: they have an increasingly intense desire to understand the envirenment;they possess an increasingly strong desire to express themselves freely and to freely participate in social activities;their marginal demands are on the increase.Secondly,they display such behavioural features as: deconstructive behaviour tends to cause sensational effects;violent behaviour tends to be stirred up;group influential power tends to be strong.Thirdly,they demonstrate such thinking features as: calling some issues in question has become the keynote of some netizens' thinking pattern;some netizens are likely to be dominated by simplified thinking modes.Fourthly,they possess such value orientation features as: dual moral character;culturally rebellious nature;politically radical trait.Why do Chinese netizens possess such thinking,attitudinal,and behavioural features? Substantially,it is not because the Internet has changed them.It is because their typical features are grounded upon the current reality.

Abstract:Research problem: Web 2.0 applications, such as instant messengers and other social media platforms, are fast becoming ubiquitous in organizations, yet their impact on work performance is poorly understood. Research question: What is the relationship between Web 2.0 use, and work-based communication processes and outcomes in China? Literature review: Literature in the fields of information systems and media and communication research supports the value of Web 2.0 for organizations. However, how Web 2.0 can facilitate the organizational communication process and subsequently improve performance is under-investigated. By adapting and extending the communicative ecology framework and previously published work, we developed and tested a theoretical model to investigate these impacts in the Chinese workplace. Methodology: We conducted a quantitative study using the survey method, with participants randomly selected from a panel database in China. Results and conclusions: We analyzed survey data from 179 organizational employees and found that vertical and horizontal communication contribute significantly to individual and teamwork performance, with high levels of variance explained. In this study, we provide empirical evidence of how Web 2.0 applications enable employees to reach out to collaborators and business partners, thereby boosting individual productivity and team collaboration. The study also highlights the fit between Web 2.0 and the need for organizational horizontal communication in this era of knowledge, information, and creativity. Future researchers should verify the research model in different countries, including local contextual characteristics as either independent variables or moderators.

Abstract:This study systematically traces the development of SNS (social network service) in China, and divides it into 4 stages: traditional networked socializing, the budding stage of SNS, the rapid growth of real-name socializing, and the thriving stage of socialized media. At the same time, the author analyses the characteristics of Chinese SNS in different stages. The study illustrates the role SNS has played in filling a gap of the traditional media, promoting social governance and economic development, by means of case studies of the high-speed train crash in Wenzhou, the protest of Wukan villagers in Guangdong, and the selling of green onions on Weibo (the Chinese version of Twitter). The study also theoretically explores how the SNS emerged and its relationship with social interaction and demonstrates that the difference between SNS and the traditional Internet is the identification of identity constructed by people-centered and social relationships. The changes in the way people use the Internet have an impact on the interaction structure of SNS and also on the evolution of social relationships on and off line, generating both positive and negative forces in the SNS development process. The SNS we expect is a rational and orderly social interaction structure which can promote continuous social progress.

Abstract:This book examines the genesis, mechanisms, and dynamics of forging a network-based economy in China during the crisis and the restructuring act that followed. Through historical analysis of the entire range of communications, from telecommunications to broadband, from wireless networks to digital media, it explores how the state, entangled with market forces and class interests, constructs and realigns its digitalized sector. It argues that corporatization, networking, and investment within the state-dominated realm of communications intensified after the 2008 global economic crisis, to overcome the contradictions generated by the old investment-and-export dependent growth model, on the one hand, and to enhance China’s techno-economic capacities in the renewed global competition for command, on the other. Despite the qualitative changes it brought in communications, this strategy achieved limited results for economic restructuring, because the ensuing spending binges paid little attention to social needs. Ultimately, this book historicizes and theorizes China’s state-led model of digital capitalism, which contends, collaborates, and overlaps with the U.S.-dominated system of global digital capitalism. It reveals so-called cyber nationalism or networked nationalism as neither monolithic nor guaranteed but contingent upon specific political-economic relations. It also predicts the future: While China’s embrace of communications is likely to accelerate the country’s global rise, it is not going to be a simple rise to power but a continual effort to tamp down crises and manage contradictions.

Abstract:Today the World Wide Web is undergoing a subtle but profound shift to Web 2.0, to become more of a social web. The use of collaborative technologies such as blogs and social networking site (SNS) leads to instant online community in which people communicate rapidly and conveniently with each other. Moreover, there are growing interest and concern regarding the topological structure of these new online social networks. In this paper, we present empirical analysis of statistical properties of two important Chinese online social networks—a blogging network and an SNS open to college students. They are both emerging in the age of Web 2.0. We demonstrate that both networks possess small-world and scale-free features already observed in real-world and artificial networks. In addition, we investigate the distribution of topological distance. Furthermore, we study the correlations between degree (in/out) and degree (in/out), clustering coefficient and degree, popularity (in terms of number of page views) and in-degree (for the blogging network), respectively. We find that the blogging network shows disassortative mixing pattern, whereas the SNS network is an assortative one. Our research may help us to elucidate the self-organizing structural characteristics of these online social networks embedded in technical forms.
