Abstract:Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, combining the cultural requirements of comprehensively building a modern country in the new era, the Party Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the Core systematically explained cultural confidence and formed Xi Jinping cultural confidence ideology. The concept of cultural confidence is of great significance in contemporary China, which has entered a new era. As a public cultural service institution, libraries should be guided by Xi Jinping cultural confidence ideology in their own development, combined with the functions of the library, and fully play the leading role of the library in strengthening cultural confidence.

Abstract:The strong interest in literature in Chinese academic tradition has sustained even a contemporary development of such studies as emendation of text,history of literature,history of book publishing,and history of book collecting.And yet,unfortunately,little attention has been directed to the cultural and social functions of literature at large.The overseas sinologists’works on Chinese social history of books prove to be weak due to their indiscriminate transplant of western ideas and methodology.Different from the western one,the critical issue concerning the social and cultural functions of books in China is absolutely no more than the relation of a long history of book publishing and collecting to its influence on the social development and cultural heritage in ancient China.Only with"literature in culture"in mind can we attain a more profound understanding of Chinese ancient literature.

Abstract:The slogan of Xue Heng school-chang ming guo cui and rong hua xin zhi,literally meaning advocating the essence of the Chinese traditional culture and assimilating the essence of borrowed cultures-was the lifelong pursuit of Tang Yongtong in his academic career.Detached from the wrangles of the various schools of thought,Tang Yongtong,together with some other scholars who were the backbone of the Xue Heng school,identified the strengths as well as the flaws of the traditional Chinese culture,which,compared with the radicals and the conservatives,was more rational and reasonable.Sticking to the motto of cultural research is a long quest for truth,he took the trouble to piece together the fact and trace to the source,which guarantees the persuasiveness of his conclusions.Even today,his thoughts are still of great significance for the academic research and culture construction.

Abstract:Cultural conservatism which was formed under the strike of Western tides of thoughts constituted an interesting view of defending conventional moral principles in the effort to defend Chinese traditional culture as a whole, especially the basic values in the Confucian culture. When coming to a choice before modernistic politics, cultural conservatism could become political conservatism, thus a strain between cultural defendism and political choice. From a standpoint of cultural defendism, Xu Fuguan chose political modernity, whereas Qian Mu turned to political conservatism, which means the conservatism in the latter case was more thorough. Qian certainly does not belong to the school of Neo-Confucianism.

Abstract:Abstract With the spatial culture theory as the basis and from the perspective of cultural heritage, this paper elucidates the construction of the Liu Xiao Ling Tong Book Pavilion of Yunnan Normal University (which may also be interpreted as a Traditional Culture Commons), introduces modern library concepts such as ‘celebrity charm’, featured resources and space reconstruction, as well as provides enlightenment to the library cycle with Chinese wisdom and experience. This paper applies participant observation method, interviewing method and textual analysis method with the data collection period from September 2015 to December 2016. Through library space reconstruction and the inheritance of certain outstanding features of Chinese culture, the Liu Xiao Ling Tong Book Pavilion has had an influence among university faculty and students, the university library circle in China and even the entire education circle, while also complemented and improved the applicability of the spatial culture theory in the library circumstance.

Abstract:Traditional Chinese culture covers a variety of ethical principles and behavioral norms that have arisen from thousands of years of Chinese social life to handle interpersonal relationships in an appropriate way. Such principles and norms are a typical expression of Chinese people's wisdom in the analysis of their surroundings. However, traditional Chinese culture also contains some poisonous thinking that has been carefully nurtured by feudal rulers to maintain their power. In the practice of the great social changes of pre-1949 China, after repeated experience, people gained a relatively clear and comprehensive understanding of traditional Chinese culture: it should neither be totally affirmed nor totally rejected. Rather, we should analyze it concretely, endeavoring to separate the dross from the essence. In late Qing and Republican China, traditional culture was continuously handed on and renewed, and this process will be carried on and on.

Abstract:This paper discusses OUYANG Xiu's suppression towards "the literary style in Imperial College" from the perspective of political history.It argues that the main motive of OUYANG Xiu was not only literary renovation,but also risisted the political habits of the impatient students who often discussed current affairs in a bad manner.This manner came from the scholar-officials who intensely participated in political affairs from Qingli Age to Jiayou Age.OUYANG Xiu tried his best to maitain the appropriate order of the government and took great pains in mediating between the passionate officials who could easily go to extremes.Although pinned hopes on the next generation,OUYANG Xiu ultimately failed to hold back the radical political manner.His political attitude and experiences were considerably representative at that time.

Abstract:This book is divided into three main parts: an introduction to theories of culture, a section on Chinese culture, and one on cultural construction. The first part can be interpreted as an attempt to explore the meta-theoretical system of culture at the philosophical level. Based on the concept of “culture as ways of living,” the book further defines “culture” as “the preparation of people,” including the processes by which people adapt to local cultural and social customs. It stresses the subjectivity of culture, and the cultural rights and responsibilities of humankind. The second part takes on the subjective perspective of contemporary Chinese culture, interpreting it within the context of the historical situation of the Chinese people and nation, before engaging in a systematic reflection on several fundamental issues of Chinese culture. It closes by evaluating Chinese cultural practices and formulating a type of contemporary cultural self-identity. The book’s third part focuses on the interconnection between the revival of the Chinese nation and the modernization of Chinese society, analyzing the conditions and challenges for the three primary types of contemporary Chinese culture: material culture, political culture and spiritual culture. Lastly, the book puts forward suggestions concerning several of the critical problems facing a society in transition.

Abstract:In the 21st century,the post-modern literature and art have witnessed their prevalence.They clear value and lose their value judgment and have been called mess art.How can Chinese culture and art gradually step out of marginalized crisis,put them in a proper position and hence meet their own splendor? This must be seriously thought over by all young scholars and artists.The harmony out of traditional rules,the responsibility for managing important affairs and the good spirits implied in concepts like meanness and filial piety should not be given up as garbage.On the contrary,the excellent traditional Chinese art,including Chinese calligraphy,should be greatly inherited and hence developed due to the national identity and spirits implied in it.

Abstract:In the literary theory and aesthetics research after 1949, Zhou Xian has formulated the literary discourse norms but also deconstructed the challenge of literary rules. He is consciously introducing vanguard western theories and meanwhile reflects on the introduction of the theoretical studies to social practices. It is in the literary criticism to cultural criticism, aesthetics to trans-aesthetics, and the experts to the amateur that Zhou Xian presents an image of such a cross-border impulse, wandering viewpoint, theoretical openness and critical intervention. His humanistic thoughts reveal the radical aesthetic edge and retain the rational judgment. He is a mental wanderer rather a spoiler in the system.

Abstract:Wang Furen holds the view that the reappraisal of Yan’an Literature in the new century is not to habitually treat it as the ultimate form of the development of contemporary Chinese literature, but to re-experience and rethink it from a higher point of view with full regard to the new developments in the field of studies on contemporary Chinese literature after the Cultural Revolution. Zhu Hongzhao argues that as contrasted with the conceptually accepted “Tradition of Yan’an Literature” is its counterpart in practice. Yuan Shengyong regards Yan’an Literature at the later stage, instead of Yan’an Literature as a whole, as the immediate theoretical source and literary resources in the development of contemporary Chinese literature during 1949—1976. To inquire into the original form of Yan’an Literature in the new historical context is to confront its complexity and treat it as an important point of departure for further study in this area.

Abstract:According to Five Laws of Library Science, library is a growing organism. Its innovation, therefore, becomes a perennial topic of library. However, how to discern the true innovation is a problem to address. In this paper, the innovation is discussed in three aspects as follows:"gaining new knowledge by review" "keeping diversity and blending five colors in harmony" "creating somethingness from nothingness", which are interpreted by the author as innovative transfer, innovative integration, and innovative development respectively. The above three ideas constitute all meanings of innovation. Innovation is not only consciousness, but methods. Consciousness is interpreted as tao, and method be done as qi. Both of them are inseparable, generating innovation incessantly. Library is a symbol of civilization and humanity, with a close tie to which it is regarded as a divine place. Thus, how to cultivate the humanistic spirit of librarian is key to the development of library career. Above all, this paper gives us a further discussion about the meanings of humanistic spirit from following five perspectives, including orientation of civilization, orientation of goodness,orientation of morality, orientation of fulfilling obligations for human beings, orientation of sparing no effort to realize the following four aspirations, including the aspiration to ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth, to secure life and fortune for the people, to continue lost teachings of past sages, and to establish peace for all future generations. Accordingly, Nanjing Library carries on all works in the spirit of innovation and humanity.
