Abstract:People always regard media as a product of technology,taking it as a tool.But in the contemporary era,when media have been integrating into and changing people's life,many problems brought about by media come into being.This paper discusses the origin of these problems from the cultural perspective and try to find some means to solve them.

Abstract:Heidegger believes,under the show of limitation and imposition of modern technology,things and people are nominated by the essence of modern technology——Ge-stell.He attempted to rescue them from the danger which is caused by the modern technology through the way of thinking of salvation.As a result,his picture is showing a tendency towards technology correspondingly,and unfolding the thought of self-rescue to the technology-oriented culture through the thinking.In the new historical situation,scholars after Heidegger have a critical reflection to modern technology and its culture in order to clarify the intrinsic correlations between the culture of technology and the nature of people,and other cultures,then make greater affords to analyze a reasonable direction on culture of technology in the multi-cultural background.

Abstract:The emergence of new information and communication technologies and new social communication practices has called for the transformation of communication studies.Communication researchers have been asking a number of questions:Can the new information and communication technologies lead to a paradigm shift in communication theories?Are classic communication theories still applicable to the new media environment?What are the new research questions that emerge in the new media age?What are the interactions between the new information and communication technologies and new media research?How do the new media studies transform the current communication research?How should Chinese new media research be developed under the background of globalization and unique context of Chinese society and culture ? Based on the review of previous research,this study analyzes three approaches to new media studies,namely social scientific,critical,and interpretive paradigms,and reveals three findings.First,it is the changing communication activities and practices in which people engage that lead to the changing views of communication,such as a shift from″media-audience″study to ″new media-user″study.Moreover,the development of new media industry not only generates new research objects and theories,but offers new perspectives and methods to test classic theories.Second,in examining the relationship between new media technologies and social change,this study concludes that technological determinism is usually a dominant paradigm in the early phase of new media technologies.As these new technologies diffuse,researchers will turn to a social shaping perspective that focuses on how new media technologies are shaped by various social forces on the one hand,and are shaping social life in socio-historical contexts on the other.Third,the emergence of new media events has become a unique and influential communication phenomenon that attracts the attention of a large number of Chinese communication researchers.Nevertheless,most of these studies are case studies and are limited to the application of western theories to the Chinese society,thus failing to provide any insight into the communication mechanism in the Chinese new media environment.Against such a backdrop,this study suggests apossible direction for Chinese scholars to facilitate a″cultural shift″of new media research,to adopt the″thick description″method of cultural sociology to reveal the specific implications of new media events,and to uncover the socio-psychological consequences of these events and their associated social factors in the Chinese context.The goal is to highlight the interplay of different social forces in new media studies in transitional China.Meanwhile,scholars should take advantage of new media technologies to develop new research methods and procedures,to explore unique research questions in the Chinese social and cultural context,and to generate new theories that can facilitate the development of communication research.

Abstract:With the rapid progress of technology, digital media has gradually transformed into the dominant medium for cultural dissemination, breaking the traditional mode of communication, achieving deep integration of culture and technology, and providing new opportunities and challenges for cultural dissemination. This article delves into the characteristics of the digital media environment, emphasizes the importance of cultural communication in this environment, and analyzes in detail the impact of social media interaction and co-creation, personalization and customized communication. These new trends make cultural dissemination more precise, diverse, and efficient through cross-border integration and innovation. However, while embracing new technologies, it is necessary to maintain respect and inheritance of cultural essence, ensuring that cultural dissemination finds a balance between modernity and tradition. Abstract:The understanding of Chinese culture and arts from the perspective of other cultures and countries has been the mainstream trend in the past. From ‗The Travels of Marco Polo' to the film ‗Red Lanterns', Chinese culture has mostly suffered a status of being depicted and interpreted but not examined as a vibrant civilization for real communication and interaction. Mostly, Chinese culture has been depicted as a culture of difference, misery, and agony. This approach has hampered communication between China and other nations in the past and even today. Chinese culture and arts have a long history of its own, it is extensive and profound, and needs more understanding, respect, logical evaluation and new approaches to communication. Authors argue that the rich cultural characters and charm need to be communicated across cultures via new media platforms. In this new world of digital media and information, especially, on the mobile terminal and the mode of UGC (User Generated Content), the traditional cultures and arts have new opportunities for their propagation, transportation, and demystification in real time circumstances. This essay assesses the communication of Chinese traditional culture and arts in the contemporary digital era and offers social-contextual analysis to reveal the internal tensions ambiguities, strategies, issues and prospects in its communication through digital platforms.

Abstract:There exist many concealed problems behind the lively media criticism phenomenon in the current Chinese context.Therefore,we need to reflect on the media criticism to make clear direction on the media criticism theory and practice.Media criticism is like a scalpel,and its vital function is to rip the veil of media symbol producing,reveal the secrets behind the production of media symbol and expose the essence and root causes of the symbolic violence.Today,it is an urgent to reiterate the enlightenment mission on media criticism and the enlightenment task seems more difficult for the contemporary Chinese media criticism.Only by insisting on enlightenment position and criticism spirit can we get a sense of direction with theoretical efforts and criticism actions of our media criticism,deal with the real problems in the contemporary Chinese media field and bridge the fracture between theory and practice.

Abstract:Digital technology has significantly facilitated the development of the cultural industry, and the cultural industry has also become one of the most important fields to which digital technology is applied. Conducting an analysis of how digital technology empowers consumers, creators, producers, social interaction and cultural communication can help us understand how it has improved the efficiency of the cultural industry, propelling digital contents into becoming the mainstay of the cultural industry and making digital communication the principal channel of cultural transmission. Abstract:This paper attempts to explore the multiple layers that intervene in the relationship between media and culture. The authors argue that media products and messages have always been constructed to either serve the dominant elite’s ideology, gain public consent, or consolidate racial and gender stereotypes. Media forms, types and genres are cultural filters or ideological paradigms targetting the audiences’ Hedonist propensity for visual pleasure. In his book Media Culture, Douglas Kellner (1995) highlights the sinuous relationship between media and culture by stating that media culture has emerged whereby sounds and spectacles help produce the fabric of everyday life and help shape political views and social behavior. When we look at media from a cultural studies perspective, we become conscious of its sweeping impact on people’s political views and identity. Noam Chomsky (1988) argues that media “manufactures consent”, therefore confirming the manipulative facet of media culture through his five filters: ownership, advertising, media elite, flak and common enemy. With the increasing normalization of digital technology, “techno-culture” has taken on a more incisive turn by driving people to keep swinging between online and offline cultures. Through virtual and immersive actions, new cultural forms have been invented, namely e-society, cyber communities and cultural identities. Hence, by adopting a cultural studies perspective, this paper attempts to provide a theoretical framework for media culture by exploring the concepts of “techno-culture”, Chomsky’s and Herman’s five filters, and cyberculture.

Abstract:The rapid development of information technology affects people's living habits.
