Abstract:Research and application of botanical pesticides, including plant chem ical defense, botanical pesticides, plant protestants, and tropical plant pestic ides are briefly reviewed. The research and application of botanical bactericide s and botanical herbicides are far less intensive and extensive compared with th e botanical insecticides. However, current researches indicates that a wide rang e of plants had the capacity of controlling weeds, bacteria and fungi. There is, therefore, a great prospect to exploit plant resources to develop bactericides, fungicides and herbicides.

Abstract:Pesticides are indispensably essential in agricultural practices. Traditional pesticides and environmentally friendly pesticides both are used to control the damage caused by pests and diseases. Conventional procedures were carried out to detect pesticide residues using chromatography and spectrophotometric techniques. Inno-vative extractions (micro-extraction) and detection technologies (biosensors, screening cards, etc.) have been developed for faster and more efficient screening of pesticide compounds in plant-derived foodstuffs. The present review summarized the trends of pesticide occurrence in plant-derived foodstuffs, and discussed the advances in pesticides detection. Also, the pesticide dissipation and the mechanism of action are discussed. The extensive literature review demonstrates various techniques already in use or having futuristic potential for detecting and dissipating pesticides in foodstuffs, which can pave the way for future research efforts.

Abstract:The basic concept of soil water repellency was introduced, the effects of soil water repellency on field water cycle, soil and water conservation, and groundwater environment was summed up. The reasons of soil water repellency were analyzed. The domestic and international methods used for detecting the degree of soil water repellency and their characteristics were introduced. The research advancement of spatial variability for soil water repellency, soil water movement of water repellent soil during infiltration and evaporation process, and measures for improving infiltration ability of hydrophobic soil were also reviewed and assessed thoroughly. Since there were closed associations between soil water repellency and filed water cycle, microbe activity, runoff and sediment production, and pollution of ground water environment, it was urgent to do related research.

Eco-Friendly Castor Oil-Based Delivery System with Sustained Pesticide Release and Enhanced Retention

Abstract:The deposition of pesticides and their retention on plant surfaces are critical challenges for modern precision agriculture, which directly affect phytosanitary treatment, bioavailability, efficacy, and the loss of pesticides. Herein, a novel and eco-friendly waterborne polyurethane delivery system was developed to enhance the spray deposition and pesticide retention on plant surfaces. More specifically, biobased cationic and anionic waterborne polyurethane dispersions were synthesized from castor oil. Both cationic and anionic polyurethane dispersions exhibited remarkable microstructural, amphiphilic, and nanoparticle morphologies with a core–shell structure that served to encapsulate a biopesticide (azadirachtin) in their hydrophobic cores (WPU-ACT). The results indicated that the cationic WPU-ACT carriers exhibited a better sustained release behavior and a better protective effect from light and heat for azadirachtin. In addition, the simultaneous spray of anionic and cationic WPU-ACT significantly enhanced the spray deposition and prolonged the retention of pesticides due to the reduced surface tension and surface precipitation induced by the electrostatic interaction when two droplets with opposite charges come into contact with each other. A field efficacy assessment also indicated that the simultaneous spray of anionic and cationic WPU-ACT could control the infestation of brown planthopper in rice crops. Abstract:<p>Vast wastage of pesticides has caused significant environmental pollution and economic loss, which occurs in any step during the entire process of pesticide application. However, the existing strategies for controlling pesticide losses are step specific. Here, a comprehensive strategy to substantively improve pesticide efficiency on the basis of precise designs from beginning to end is developed. A water‐based coacervate with synthesized imine‐based dynamic covalent trimeric surfactants to synergistically control encapsulation, deposition, retention, and release of pesticides on water‐repellent plants is constructed. The coacervate consists of nanosized networks and abundant tightly bonded water, leading to effective encapsulation of hydrophilic/hydrophobic pesticides. Meanwhile, the network‐like microstructure entangles with the micro/nanostructures of superhydrophobic surface, ensuring complete deposition on superhydrophobic plant surface after high‐speed impact and inhibition of wind/rainwater erosion. Moreover, the CO<sub>2</sub>‐induced degradative surfactant coacervate determines the precise pesticide release. The dynamic coacervate as an innovative pesticide formula provides a prospective way for pesticide application, and is expected to promote productive and sustainable agriculture.</p>

Abstract:Inefficient usage and overdosage of conventional pesticide formulations has resulted in large economic losses and environmental pollution due to their poor water solubility and weak adhesion to foliage. In order to develop a green and efficient pesticide formulation, a kind of alkyd resin (AR) based on vegetable oil was first synthesized and used to fabricate the lambda-cyhalothrin/AR (LC/AR) nanoemulsion via in situ phase inverse emulsification, and its properties were then investigated. Results showed that the particle size of the LC/AR nanoemulsion was 50-150 nm with maximum LC loading capacity of as much as 40.9 wt %, high encapsulation efficiency >90%, and great stability in multiple environments. The LC/AR nanoemulsion exhibited better controlled release characteristics compared with LC commercial formulations, and a stronger adhesion on the foliage of the resulted nanoemulsion was also observed, which was attributed to low surface tension and strong interactions with foliar surfaces.

Abstract:The agricultural industry uses substantial amounts of water (the highest in the world) mostly for irrigation purposes. Rapid population growth and, consequently, growing demand for food have increased the use of pesticide to have higher yield for crops and other agricultural products. Wastewater generated as a result of excessive use of pesticides/herbicides in agricultural industry is becoming a global issue specifically in developing countries. Over 4,000,000 tons of pesticides are currently used in the world annually and high concentrations above their threshold limits have been detected in water bodies worldwide. The generated wastewater (contaminated with pesticides) has negative impacts on human health, the ecosystem, and the aquatic environment. Recently, biodegradable and biocompatible (including plant-based) pesticides have been introduced as green and safe products to reduce/eliminate the negative impacts of synthetic pesticides. Despite positive advantages of biopesticides, their use is limited due to cost and slow interaction with pests compared to chemical pesticides. Pesticides may also react with water and constituents of soil resulting in formation of intermediates having different physical and chemical properties. Diffusion, dispersion, and permeation are main mechanisms for transfer of pesticides in soil and water. Pesticides may degrade naturally in nature; however, the time requirement can be very long. Many mathematical models have been developed to simulate and estimate the final fate of pesticides in water resources. Development of new technologies and environmentally friendly pesticides to reduce water contamination is becoming increasingly important.

Abstract:Humic acid exists extensively in natural waters and is the object to which slight pollution of waters is controlled.In this paper,the progress researches on humic acid removal both at home and abroad is reported systematically.It is shown that,in comparison with flocculaton,oxidation and biochemistry etc,traditional methods,the adsorption method with a new compound function resin can effectively removal humic acid and its composite pollutants in waters through ion exchange,hydrogen bond action and π-π action and has vast applied in respects of controlling water slight pollution and treating rubbish leachate.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, the research progress on the extraction and analysis methods of petroleum hydrocarbon in water and sediment were reviewed. The principle, application scope, advantages, disadvantages and applications of various extraction methods and determination methods are summarized systematically. At present, liquid-liquid extraction is the most commonly used method to extract petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) in water samples, while Soxhlet extraction and ultrasonic extraction are the most commonly used methods to extract PHCs in sediment samples. Gas chromatography is the main development direction to determine the concentration of specific components of PHCs.

Abstract:Chemical plant protection, which refers to using plant protection machinery sprays chemical pesticides, is the most important technology for pest and disease control at present, an important technical guarantee for food security, and also is essential for safeguarding agricultural production. Pesticide, spray technology and plant protection machinery are called the three pillars of chemical plant protection, which having been becoming a hot research topic in the world. Efficient, precise and intelligent spray technology and equipment can provide guarantee for the improvement of pesticide efficacy and utilization. With the issues of agricultural product safety and environmental protection getting more and more attention from the public, the research and development direction of Chinese plant protection field will gradually turn to intelligent and precision spraying technology and equipment. Since 2010 year, the great development potential and application value of intelligent and precision spraying technologies and equipment have been widely recognized worldwide. In this article, the main precision spraying technologies were reviewed, the research status, typical representative and application progress of plant protection equipment in different working scenarios were classified and summarized. The challenges in the development of precision spraying were analyzed, the countermeasures and suggestions were put forward. This research can provide new methods and new ideas not only for implementation of China's pesticide reduction plan, the promotion of intelligent plant protection equipment and precision spraying technology, but for the development of modern agriculture.

Abstract:Coastal pollution caused by the importation of agricultural herbicides is one of the main environmental problems that directly affect the coastal primary productivity and even the safety of human seafood. It is urgent to evaluate the ecological risk objectively and explore feasible removal strategies. However, existing studies focus on the runoff distribution and risk assessment of specific herbicides in specific areas, and compared with soil environment, there are few studies on remediation methods for water environment. Therefore, we systematically reviewed the current situation of herbicide pollution in global coastal waters and the dose-response relationships of various herbicides on phytoplankton and higher trophic organisms from the perspective of ecological risks. In addition, we believe that compared with the traditional single physical and chemical remediation methods, biological remediation and its combined technology are the most promising methods for herbicide pollution remediation currently. Therefore, we focus on the application prospects, challenges, and management strategies of new bioremediation systems related to biology, such as constructed wetlands, membrane bioreactor processes, and microbial co-metabolism, in order to provide more advanced methods for reducing herbicide pollution in the water environment.
