Abstract:The attentional demands in perceptual tasks and grasping tasks were not matched in previous studies supporting the Perception Versus Action Hypothesis.Holistic attention was needed in the perceptual task while selective attention was needed in the grasping task. Therefore,we proposed a hypothesis that the results of the perceptual task and the grasping task would be the same if the subject's attention was drawn to the parts in the perceptual task. In the perceptual task,we told the participants to judge the width of rectangular objects with different length. In the grasping task, the participants were asked to reach out and grasp each rectangular object by its width. The results showed that the length has no influence on the judgement of the width, and the length of wood bars has no influence on the MGA of the width. Therefore,we maintain that the conclusion supporting the Perception Versus Action Hypothesis is related to selective attention.
