Abstract:In this Letter we study the duality in two-field quintom models of dark energy. We find that an expanding Universe dominated by quintom-A field is dual to a contracting Universe with quintom-B field.

Abstract:We review the paradigm of quintom cosmology. This scenario is motivated by the observational indications that the equation-of-state of dark energy across the cosmological constant boundary is mildly favored, although the data are still far from being conclusive. As a theoretical setup we introduce a no-go theorem existing in quintom cosmology, and based on it we discuss the conditions for the equation-of-state of dark energy realizing the quintom scenario. The simplest quintom model can be achieved by introducing two scalar fields with one being quintessence and the other phantom. Based on the double-field quintom model we perform a detailed analysis of dark energy perturbations and we discuss their effects on current observations. This type of scenario usually suffers from a manifest problem due to the existence of a ghost degree-of-freedom, and thus we review various alternative realizations of the quintom paradigm. The developments in particle physics and string theory provide potential clues indicating that a quintom scenario may be obtained from scalar systems with higher derivative terms, as well as from non-scalar systems. Additionally, we construct a quintom realization in the framework of braneworld cosmology, where the cosmic acceleration and the phantom divide crossing result from the combined effects of the field evolution on the brane and the competition between four- and five-dimensional gravity. Finally, we study the outsets and fates of a universe in quintom cosmology. In a scenario with null energy condition violation one may obtain a bouncing solution at early times and therefore avoid the Big Bang singularity. Furthermore, if this occurs periodically, we obtain a realization of an oscillating universe. Lastly, we comment on several open issues in quintom cosmology and their connection to future investigations.

Abstract:In this Letter, we study the possibility of building a model of the oscillating universe with quintom matter in the framework of 4-dimensional Friedmann–Robertson–Walker background. Taking the two-scalar-field quintom model as an example, we find in the model parameter space there are five different types of solutions which correspond to: (I) a cyclic universe with the minimal and maximal values of the scale factor remaining the same in every cycle, (II) an oscillating universe with its minimal and maximal values of the scale factor increasing cycle by cycle, (III) an oscillating universe with its scale factor always increasing, (IV) an oscillating universe with its minimal and maximal values of the scale factor decreasing cycle by cycle, and (V) an oscillating universe with its scale factor always decreasing.

Abstract:We join quintessence cosmological scenarios with the duality simmetry existing in string dilaton cosmologies. Actually, we consider the tracker potential type $V = V_0/{\phi}^{\alpha}$ and show that duality is only established if $\alpha = - 2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the possibility of model building of cyclic universe with Quintom matter in the framework of Loop Quantum Cosmology. After a general demonstration, we provide two examples, one with double-fluid and another double-scalar field, to show how such a scenario is obtained. Analytical and numerical calculations are both presented in the paper.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of a quintessence model based on two interacting scalar fields. The model can account for the (recent) accelerated expansion of the Universe suggested by astronomical observations. Acceleration can be permanent or temporary and, for both scenarios, it is possible to obtain suitable values for the cosmological parameters while satisfying the nucleosynthesis constraint on the quintessence energy density. We argue that the model dynamics can be made consistent with a stable zero-energy relaxing supersymmetric vacuum.

Abstract:We investigate the phase-space structure of the quintom paradigm in the framework of a spatially flat, open, or closed isotropic and homogeneous universe. We examine the dynamical evolution under the assumption of late-time dark energy domination, without specifying the explicit quintom potential form. Perturbations of the Quintom Models of Dark Energy and the Effects on Observations

Abstract:We study in this paper the perturbations of the quintom dark energy model and the effects of quintom perturbations on the current observations. Quintom describes a scenario of dark energy where the equation of state gets across the cosmological constant boundary $w=\ensuremath{-}1$ during evolution. We present a new method to show that the conventional dark energy models based on a single $k$-essence field and perfect fluid cannot act as the quintom due to the singularities and classical instabilities of perturbations around $w=\ensuremath{-}1$. One needs to add extra degrees of freedom for successful quintom model building. There are no singularities or classical instabilities in perturbations of realistic quintom models and they are potentially distinguishable from the cosmological constant. Basing on the realistic quintom models in this paper we provide one way to include the perturbations for dark energy models with parametrized equation of state across $\ensuremath{-}1$. Compared with those assuming no dark energy perturbations, we find that the parameter space which allows the equation of state to get across $\ensuremath{-}1$ will be enlarged, in general, when including the perturbations.

Abstract:In this paper we present an analysis of a chiral anisotropic cosmological scenario from the perspective of quintom fields. In this setup quintessence and phantom fields interact in a non-standard (chiral) way within an anisotropic Bianchi type I background. We present our examination from two fronts: classical and quantum approaches. In the classical program we find analytical solutions given by a particular choice of the emerged relevant parameters. Remarkably, we present an explanation of the ''big-bang'' singularity by means of a ''big-bounce''. Moreover, isotropization is in fact reached as the time evolves. On the quantum counterpart the Wheeler-DeWitt equation is analytically solved for various instances given by the same parameter space from the classical study, and we also include the factor ordering $\rm Q$. Having solutions in this scheme we compute the probability density, which is in effect damped as the volume function and the scalar fields evolve; and it also tends towards a flat FLRW framework when the factor ordering constant $\rm Q \ll 0$. This result might indicate that for a fixed set of parameters, the anisotropies quantum-mechanically vanish for very small values of the parameter $\rm Q$. Finally, classical and quantum solutions reduce to their flat FLRW counterparts when the anisotropies vanish.

The Quintom Model with O(N) Symmetry

Abstract:We investigate the quintom model of dark energy in the generalized case where the corresponding canonical and phantom fields possess O(N) symmetries. Assuming exponential potentials we find that this O(N) quintom paradigm exhibits novel properties comparing to the simple canonical and phantom scenarios. In particular, we find that the universe cannot result in a quintessence-type solution with w>-1, even in the cases where the phantom field seems to be irrelevant. On the contrary, there are always late-time attractors which correspond to accelerating universes with w<-1 and with a recent crossing of the phantom divide, and for a very large area of the parameter space they are the only ones. This is in contrast with the previous simple-quintom results, where an accelerating universe is a possible late-time stable solution but it is not guaranteed.

Abstract:In the framework of a single scalar field quintom model with higher derivative, we construct in this Letter a dark energy model of which the equation of state (EOS) w crosses over the cosmological constant boundary. Interestingly during the evolution of the universe w<−1 happens just for a period of time with a distinguished feature that w starts with a value above −1, transits into w<−1, then comes back to w>−1. This avoids the big-rip jeopardy induced by w<−1.

Abstract:In this paper, dark energy is modelled via a spherically symmetric quintessence scalar field $\varphi$, the dynamics of which are found to be analogous to a pendulum. This is due to a driving axion potential $V(\left|\varphi\right|)$, whose origins reside within the study of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The effect of a cosmological constant $\Lambda$, introduced to represent the vacuum energy of space, is also investigated. Preliminary results suggest that $\Lambda$ is analogous to a spring-constant, and thus determining the elasticity of space. Additionally, a cosmological scale-factor $a(t,r)$, notably with an added spatial dependence, is also considered. We propose that due to this inhomogeneous scale-factor, the energy-density is characteristic of temperature fluctuations observed within the cosmic microwave background. Such fluctuations could ultimately lead to a universe composed of filaments and voids; vast expanses of space, separated by regions of localised matter/energy-density. Finally, we provide a means of screening both the cosmological constant and curvature of the universe, to effective values that are more consistent with experimental observation.

Abstract:The emergent universe scenario provides a possible alternative to bouncing cosmology to avoid the Big Bang singularity problem. In this Letter we study the realization of the emergent universe scenario by making use of Quintom matter with an equation of state across the cosmological constant boundary. We will show explicitly the analytic and numerical solutions of emergent universe in two Quintom models, which are a phenomenological fluid and a nonconventional spinor field, respectively.

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to present the multi scalar field components as candidates to be the dark energy of the universe and their observational constraints. We start with the canonical Quintessence and Phantom fields with quadratic potentials and show that a more complex model should bear in mind to satisfy current cosmological observations. Then we present some implications for a combination of two fields, named as Quintom models. We consider two types of models, one as the sum of the quintessence and phantom potentials and other including an interacting term between fields. We find that adding one extra degree of freedom, by the interacting term, the dynamics enriches considerably and could lead to an improvement in the fit of $-2\ln\Delta \Like_{\rm max}= 5.19$, compared to $\Lambda$CDM. The resultant effective equation of state is now able to cross the phantom divide line, and in several cases present an oscillatory or discontinuous behavior, depending on the interaction value. The parameter constraints of the scalar field models (quintessence, phantom, quintom and interacting quintom) were performed using Cosmic Chronometers, Supernovae Ia and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations data; and the Log-Bayes factors were computed to compare the performance of the models. We show that single scalar fields may face serious troubles and hence the necessity of a more complex models, i.e. multiple fields.

Tracker behaviour of quintom dark energy and the Hubble tension

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the quintom dark energy model using state-of-the-art cosmological observations. The set of equations has been converted into an autonomous system using suitable transformations of the variables. We have discussed the fixed points of the model and the general phase-space behavior, in particular, in finding the existence of the tracker solutions for this model. The observations suggest that at late times the phantom field should dominate the dark energy sector with an approximately 15% share to the quintessence counterpart, and with both fields tracking the background at early times. A Bayesian model comparison with LambdaCDM has also been done by computing the Bayes factor and a positive preference has been obtained for the quintom model. Although not fully resolved, the Hubble tension can be reduced to 2.6{\sigma} when compared with the value of H0 reported in [1] and to 1.6{\sigma} when compared with that of [2].

Quintessence: an analytical study, with theoretical and observational applications

Abstract:We focus on minimally coupled (multi)field quintessence models and their realistic solutions. In a model-independent manner, we describe analytically these cosmological solutions throughout the universe history. Starting with a kination - radiation domination phase, we obtain an upper bound on the scalar potential to guarantee an early kination: $V(\varphi) \ll e^{-\sqrt{6} \varphi}$. Turning to the radiation - matter phase, we obtain analytical expressions for the scale factor $a(t)$ (not $t(a)$) and the scalar fields $\varphi^i(t)$ (usually neglected). These allow us to evaluate analytically the freezing of scalar fields, typically $\Delta \varphi \lesssim 10^{-2}$, as well as the transition moment of the dark energy equation of state parameter $w_{\varphi}$ from $+1$ to $-1$, with excellent agreement to the numerics. We comment on this freezing in view of string theory model building, and of some cosmological events. Turning to the latest phase of matter - dark energy domination, we show that the (multi)field displacement is sub-Planckian: $\Delta \varphi \leq 1$. We also provide for that phase analytic expressions for $\int (w_{\varphi}+1)\, d N$; we relate those to observational targets that we propose. Turning to the CPL parametrisation, while discussing a phantom behaviour, we derive analytical bounds on $w_0$ and $w_a$.

Abstract:Within the framework of f ( Q )-gravity, where Q is the non-metricity scalar factor that drives the gravitational interaction, we have examined the behavior and nature of the universe in this research by studying the non-static planar symmetric space-time. We assumed the linear model of f ( Q )-gravity as and metric potential relations as for solving the field equations. After getting a complete solution of the field equations, the values of model parameters have been estimated by performing a chi-square test using observational Hubble datasets with 57 data-points. We have discussed the physical behavior of the universe in our model through physical parameters like the energy density, pressure, equation of state parameter and skewness parameter. Also, we have examined the kinematic variables of the universe in our model such as Hubble parameter, deceleration parameter, and jerk parameter. In our model, the deceleration parameter q ( z ) indicates the universe's phase change from deceleration to acceleration. Moreover, the current value of the deceleration parameter is with transition redshift value , this type of scenario is strongly aligned with standard CDM model. We have found the values of which is in good agreement with the plank measurement 2018. In addition, we analyzed the geometrical diagnostics such as Statefinder diagnostic and diagnostic to identify the nature of the dark energy model. Also, we analyzed the stability of the universe in our model through the squared speed of sound test. Ultimately, our model's cosmos is expanding, going through an acceleration phase, and acting in a manner consistent with a quintessential dark energy concept.

Cosmological simulations of a momentum coupling between dark matter and quintessence

Abstract:Dark energy is frequently modelled as an additional dynamical scalar field component in the Universe, referred to as "quintessence", which drives the late-time acceleration. Furthermore, the quintessence field may be coupled to dark matter and/or baryons, leading to a fifth force. In this paper we explore the consequences for non-linear cosmological structure formation arising from a momentum coupling between the quintessence field and dark matter only. The coupling leads to a modified Euler equation, which we implement in an N-body cosmological simulation. We then analyse the effects of the coupling on the non-linear power spectrum and the properties of the dark matter halos. We find that, for certain quintessence potentials, a positive coupling can lead to significantly reduced structure on small scales and somewhat enhanced structure on large scales, as well as reduced halo density profiles and increased velocity dispersions.
