Effect of Parents' Attachment and Stress Coping Style on College Adjustment and Psychosocial Stress(SF-PWI) of Freshmen

Abstract:Recently, the college students' fall in academic ability has risen as a social issue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the parents' attachment and stress coping style on the college adjustment(academic adjustment, campus life satisfaction) and psychosocial well-being index((SF-PWI), and differences in the SF-PWI according to college adjustment. Data from 159 college students in H city were analysed. The results were indicated that satisfaction of a major had a significant ant effects on parents' attachment, stress coping style, academic adjustment, campus life satisfaction and SF-PWI. The aggressive stress coping styles such as a social-support seeking coping and problem-oriented coping was showed a higher academic adjustment, campus life adjustment than passive coping style such as an avoidance-oriented, while it was showed negative relationship with SF-PWI. Also, there were significant correlation between college adjustment such as academic adjustment and a campus life satisfaction and SF-PWI. Therefore, it was suggested that the subjects on effects of the parents' attachment and a stress coping styles were included counselling and guidance program for improving college adaptability with decrease of SF-PWI on freshmen to college.
