Abstract:This paper presents a network platform developed for remote testing of scaled model or prototype structures and structural elements. The network platform, NetSLab, was developed based on the client/server concept along with a proposed data model and the communication protocols. The platform is capable of transferring the control and feedback data as well as signals among remotely located structural testing laboratories or computers connected by Internet. Several concepts were introduced to develop the platform and to provide relatively easy and friendly interface for applications and further enhancement. Trial and actual tests were successfully carried out at the Hunan University, China and the University of Southern California, USA. Models simulating bridge piers and piles or building substructures were subjected to recorded earthquake ground motions, and the tests were controlled remotely over the Internet using the platform.

Abstract:A system for distance monitoring and a seismic experiment controlling was introduced.This system was used to develop the method of a remote pseudo-dynamic test.A network communication platform NetSLab was needed to realize the remote control of the pseudo-dynamic test.Authors used Visual Basic developing the standard open-end single layer structural remote pseudo-dynamic test platform.The pseudo-dynamic test was remotely executed using this program.The application of the program was verified well by test results.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and implementation of network controller which based on the Data Link Layer's specification of a lightweight sensor-oriented fieldbus protocol, that is sensor network protocol. The controller is packed with AVALON standard peripheral interface. It can be treated as a normal intellectual property core in project design, so that the operation on it is simplified as reading or writing on register. The test results show that the controller meets the requirements of the specification in the frame identification, arbitration, checking and so on. A follow-up application developing basement can be found easily on this controller.

Abstract:The Ethernet is more and more used in the industrial environments. Because of the non-deterministic protocol of CSMA/CD, Ethernet is thought not to be suitable for the control of real time applications. With the worldwide application and development of Ethernet, its transmission rate is considered sufficiently high enough to estimate that all messages can be received inside a predefined temporal window. Especially, using Ethernet in industrial network will brings a lot of advantages: (1) consistency with the other communication systems installed in the enterprise; (2) employment of the same hardware all over the factory; (3) short cycle-times due to the high transmission speed; (4) large availability of chips implementing the MAC protocol, etc. In this paper, we first analyze the real-time capability of Ethernet and features of traffic for industrial network. Then, we propose some technologies for the design of an Ethernet-based real-time application. Finally, we present an EPA (Ethernet for Plant Automation)-based open network control system.

Abstract:In this paper, a new interface is developed in detail that provides terminal users with ways for direct and convenient interactions with the wireless sensor networks (WSNs). It also embraces an Internet based subsystem for remote monitoring and controlling of the WSNs. Different from existing platforms and interfaces, our design is general, extensible and not constrained for specific applications. More importantly, it paves the way for improving the data processing efficiency and avoiding data execution congestion. It proposes the idea utilizing the advantages of existing professional mathematical software tools, such as Matlab, Mathematica and Maple, to process the WSN data.

Abstract:A novel developer application and platform framework for embedded Web Measurement and Control Server was proposed, the hardware bases on ARM7 microprocessor, which used CS8900 as the net interface chip and nRF905 as Wireless communication chip, the software based on embedding real-time operating system μC/OS-II and TCP/IP protocol were designed and implemented in details. Described the main process of porting the open-source embedded operating system μC/OS-II to ARM processor, and achieved an embedded web server based Internet multi-task system platform.
