Abstract:We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for an $\Omega-$stable diffeomorphism to be a topologically transitive Anosov diffeomorphism: to exhibit a nonempty intersection of the stable and unstable manifolds of any pair of periodic orbits. To elucidate its dynamical nature, we compare this condition with other properties known to be sufficient for an Anosov diffeomorphism to be topologically transitive. We also describe the $C^1$ interior of the set of diffeomorphisms which comply with this condition, discuss examples with a variety of dynamics and present some applications of interest.

Abstract:A sufficient condition for the stability of uncertain complex networks is derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities based on the V-stability tool, which associates the self-dynamics of nodes with passivity degrees. Then, a pinning control strategy is proposed on the developed condition to stabilize the uncertain complex networks to a homogenous orbit. As an illustrative example, a network with the Lorenz system as node self-dynamics is simulated to verify the analytic results.

Abstract:This paper deals with classifying the dynamics of {\it Topologically Anosov} plane homeomorphisms. We prove that a Topologically Anosov homeomorphism $f:\mathbb{R}^2 \to \mathbb{R}^2$ is conjugate to a homothety if it is the time one map of a flow. We also obtain results for the cases when the nonwandering set of $f$ reduces to a fixed point, or if there exists an open, connected, simply connected proper subset $U$ such that $U \subset \mathrm{Int}(\overline {f(U)})$, and such that $ \cup_{n\geq 0} f^n (U)= \mathbb{R}^2$. In the general case, we prove a structure theorem for the $\alpha$-limits of orbits with empty $\omega$-limit (or the $\omega$-limits of orbits with empty $\alpha$-limit), and we show that any basin of attraction (or repulsion) must be unbounded.

Abstract:Let f be a non-invertible irreducible Anosov map on d-torus. We show that if the stable bundle of f is one-dimensional, then f has the integrable unstable bundle, if and only if, every periodic point of f admits the same Lyapunov exponent on the stable bundle as its linearization. For higher-dimensional stable bundle case, we get the same result on the assumption that f is a C-1-perturbation of a linear Anosov map with real simple Lyapunov spectrum on the stable bundle. In both cases, this implies if f is topologically conjugate to its linearization, then the conjugacy is smooth on the stable bundle.

Abstract:Anosov endomorphisms on branched surfaces and their shift equivalence represent certain 2-dimensional hyperbolic attractors and their topological conjugacy. R. F. Williams conjectured that if the Anosov endomorphism is non-expanding, then the branch structure may be eliminated via shift equivalence. This paper verifies the conjecture under an additional assumption that the branch structure has no crossings.

Abstract:In this paper we describe the tangent vectors of the stable and unstable manifold of a class of Anosov diffeomorphisms on the torus $\mathbb{T}^2$ using the method of formal series and derivative trees. We start with linear automorphism that is hyperbolic and whose eigenvectors are orthogonal. Then we study the perturbation of such maps by trigonometric polynomial. It is known that there exist a (continuous) map $H$ which acts as a change of coordinate between the perturbed and unperturbed system, but such a map is in general, not differentiable. By "re-scaling" the parametrization $H$, we will be able to obtain the explicit formula for the tangent vectors of these maps.

Abstract:In this paper it is first proved that, for a hyperbolic set of aC 1 (non-invertible) endomorphism of a compact manifold, the dynamical structure of its orbit space (inverse limit space) is stable underC 1-small perturbations and is semi-stable underC 0-small perturbations. It is then proved that if an Axiom A endomorphism satisfies no-cycle condition then its orbit space is Θ-stable andR-stable underC 1-small perturbations and is semi-Θ-stable and semi-R-stable underC 0-small perturbations.

Abstract:We discuss how stability is related to the D-topology of mapping spaces, equipped with the functional diffeology. Indeed, we show that stable classes of mapping spaces are D-open. After a reformulation of the classical stability theorem of manifolds with respect to the D-topology, we prove a version of the stability theorem in the class of diffeological \'etale manifolds.

Abstract:The stickiness effect suffered by chaotic orbits diffusing in the phase space of a dynamical system is studied in this paper. Previous works have shown that the hyperbolic structures in the phase space play an essential role in causing the stickiness effect. We present in this paper the relationship between the stickiness effect and the geometric property of hyperbolic structures. Using a two-dimensional area-preserving twist mapping as the model, we develop the numerical algorithms for computing the positions of the hyperbolic periodic orbits and for calculating the angle between the stable and unstable manifolds of the hyperbolic periodic orbit. We show how the stickiness effect and the orbital diffusion speed are related to the angle.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete topological and smooth classification of non-invertible Anosov maps on torus. We show that two non-invertible Anosov maps on torus are topologically conjugate if and only if their corresponding periodic points have the same Lyapunov exponents on the stable bundles. As a corollary, if two $C^r$ non-invertible Anosov maps on torus are topologically conjugate, then the conjugacy is $C^r$-smooth along the stable foliation. Moreover, we show that the smooth conjugacy class of a non-invertible Anosov map on torus is completely determined by the Jacobians of return maps at periodic points.

Abstract:In this talk, we shall discuss stability of one-dimensional dynamical systems, from both topological and measure-theoretical point of view. A time-discrete dynamical system is represented by a self map f : M → M . For n ≥ 0, let f denote the n-th iterate of f . For each x ∈ M , the orbit of x is defined to be the sequence orb(x) = {f(x)}n=0. The theory of dynamical system studies the orbit structure. Stability, roughly speaking, means that the global dynamical property remains unchanged under a small perturbation of the system. It is generally believed that “most” dynamical systems have certain kind of hyperbolicity which in turn implies stability in a suitable sense.

Abstract:The global validity of symplectic integration methods or a mapping approach is discussed. The results show that in the regions of phase space where symplectic integration schemes and the Hamiltonian system possess the same topology, they are effective; but in the regions where the schemes possess other fixed points than those of the Hamiltonian system, their topologies are different from that of the actual system, thus the symplectic integration method or the mapping approach is not effective globally. We present a method to remove the main extra resonance islands in the symplectic integration schemes by changing the rotation numbers of the orbits. With this modification, the global stability of the symplectic integration method can be improved.
Anosov diffeomorphisms of open surfaces

Abstract:We study the existence of Anosov diffeomorphisms on complete open surfaces. We show that under the assumptions of density of periodic points and uniform geometry that such diffeomorphisms have a system of Margulis measures, which are a holonomy invariant and dynamically invariant system of measures along the stable and unstable leaves. This shows that there can be no such diffeomorphism with a global product structure.

The topological entropy and ergodic period are a complete invariant index (h, b) for an equivalence relation, almost topological conjugacy, in the setting of ergodically supported expansive maps with shadowing properly, including Anosov maps.

Abstract:To investigate the mechanism of chaotic phenomena, we conduct a research on the dynamics of one-dimensional chaotic maps. In this paper, we construct a topological tool which applies to general multimodal maps for the first time. Then we analyze the dynamics of critical orbits with this tool, revealing that the critical orbits behave somewhat periodically. We analogize the iteration of maps to a one-sided shift, and give a probability explanation of Lyapunov exponent by Ergodic Theory, which provides a numerical computation method to calculate this exponent.

Abstract:We prove that a transitive uniformly $u$-quasiconformal Anosov diffeomorphism with a two-dimensional unstable distribution has a globally defined stable holonomy. As a corollary, we are able to remove an additional assumption in a theorem of Kalinin-Sadovskaya, and deduce that all transitive uniformly quasiconformal Anosov diffeomorphisms are $C^{\infty}$-conjugate to affine Anosov diffeomorphisms on infra-torus.
