Abstract:The rational application of green materials is a necessary step for the development of environment-friendly industries and a circular economy. However, the popularity and practicality of the sustainable development of office furniture companies in China still lags far behind the world’s leading companies. To gain a deeper understanding of the application of green materials in the Chinese office furniture industry, a questionnaire survey for enterprises in response to relevant issues was conducted based on an extensive review of the relevant literature. The research comprehensively analyzed the application status of green materials in Chinese and overseas office furniture companies, and the environment-friendly materials selection strategy of the main materials, and packaging materials for office desk furniture was proposed according to the current situation. The results showed that China has vigorously begun guiding and supporting the green development of furniture manufacturing enterprises, but there is imperative need of a range of upgrades in the enacting or revising of laws and regulations pertaining to green manufacturing and manufacturing technology. Furniture enterprises should seize the opportunity to promote the application of clean energy and improve the recycling mechanism of waste furniture with an aim to maximize the benefits of sustainable development.

Empirical Study on Chinese Furniture Export Trade

Abstract:Furniture is one of the important Chinese export products,and it incurs trade protection so it's essential to research the export of Chinese furniture.Then this paper uses the five following index,including export value,direction of export,revealed comparative advantages index trade specialization Coefficient,intra-industry trade index,to analyze the exportation of Chinese furniture.It's discovered that the exportation of Chinese furniture grows quickly in recent years,but the export market is over concentrated.China has obvious comparative advantages in producing furniture,and Chinese furniture is also competitive in international market,and the export of furniture is mainly inter-industry trade.Chinese furniture export enterprises should reduce the ratio of the export to U.S.A,take positive measures to deal with the trade barriers,and try to develop general trade instead of improvement trade.

Abstract:Economic globalization and trade liberalization call for an elimination of tariff wall. With an increasing awareness of environment protection, one new non-tariff trade barrier, green barrier, emerged. In the paper, the development of green-barrier to trade and its influences on the export of farm produce of China are introduced and deep institutional reasons for green-barriers inflicted on farm produce in China are analyzed. Finally, it is held that a series of institutional policies should be improved to develop China’s green-agriculture and overcome the green barriers.

Abstract:Green manufacturing is an advanced manufacturing approach, which comprehensively considers environmental impact and resource efficiency and is considered as the future direction of modern manufacturing industry. However, the current situation, technologies, and development strategies of China's green furniture manufacturing have not been comprehensively analyzed and a complete furniture industry green manufacturing technology system is lacking. Here, to fill such knowledge gap, through an extensive review of literatures on manufacturing process and implications of green furniture, which consists of data identification, initial screening, eligibility determination, and final inclusion, this study (1) analyzed the current situation and existing challenges of green furniture manufacturing in China, (2) proposed and discussed a systemic green manufacturing concept for China's furniture based on the current situation, and (3) suggested strategies corresponding to the challenges. The results show that although China has determined that the implementation of green manufacturing is the only sensible way for the development of its furniture industry, many aspects of it, such as public awareness, manufacturing technology, and legal regulations are lacking. The proposed comprehensive green manufacturing concept regarding green manufacturing includes green design, green materials selection, green processes, green packaging, green recycling, etc. The proposed strategies include developing a green manufacturing strategy for furniture enterprises, strengthening the development of green furniture products, improving the production mode of green furniture, and promoting the coordinated development of green production in furniture industry. This study will play a guiding role in promoting the implementation of green manufacturing and achieving a sustainable development of the Chinese furniture industry. Additionally, it also provides a reference for the world furniture enterprises.

Abstract:After the reform and opening up, China's wooden furniture industry has made great progress. The production of wooden furniture has continued to grow, and the total amount of exports is also steadily increasing. Wooden furniture is also an integral part of our daily life. As China's economy continues to develop, the demand for wooden furniture is increasing and the proportion of its exports is rising year on year. Since China's accession to the WTO, China's exports of wooden furniture have gradually expanded and China's influence and competitiveness in the international market has increased. However, there are still many problems in China's wooden furniture export trade, including the export market being too congregated and facing trade barriers; facing competitive pressure from the markets of emerging countries, led by Vietnam; increasing export costs and low added value of products; and a single product structure and weak brand awareness. The main reason for these problems is that the export value of Chinese wooden furniture products is small, the export scale is not large, and the export scale fluctuates; the export product structure is simple, of which bedroom wooden furniture occupies a large proportion; the export market structure is too aggregated, mainly in the United States. Therefore, China's wooden furniture industry should continue to optimize the market structure of products, and actively respond to trade barriers; actively respond to the challenges from the international market, to strengthen international competitiveness; constantly adjust the product structure, establish and strengthen brand awareness, to create high-quality, high value-added wooden furniture products, in order to promote the development of wooden furniture export trade.

Abstract:China is the largest furniture exporter in the world. Its wood furniture industry has become an important part of the country’s forestry economic development. Hence, investigating China’s furniture industry cluster and export competitiveness is favorable for the sustainable development of China’s forestry industry. This study indicates that, under the guidance of the export-oriented strategy of China’s reform and opening up for 30 years, the country’s furniture industry has formed three big industry areas, namely, the Eastern Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Bohai Rim Region. As the strategy shifts from export orientation to a focus on domestic demand, the Midwest area will take over China’s industrial transfer. At present, China’s furniture products have an important position in the world market. In 2010, furniture exports accounted for 27% of the world’s total exports, with wood furniture accounting for $10.6 billion worth of exports, or 58% of China’s total exports of furniture. Among the main export markets, the United States accounted for 39% of China’s total exports. In terms of international furniture trade, an important mutual influence exists between China and the United States. China’s office furniture and kitchen furniture have price advantages, whereas the bedroom furniture lacks price advantages. The production and export of mahogany furniture face the pressure of raw material shortage because of the protection of tropical forest resources. Hence, this challenge puts China’s furniture industry in future competition from emerging countries such as Malaysia.

Compared with other trade barriers,green barrier is characterized by concealment,correlation and effectiveness. Green barrier has significant impacts on China's sustainable development strategies,coordinated development of economy and environment,improvement of products quality and safety. However,most impacts of green barriers on China's agricultural product export trade are negative,involving almost every field of China's foreign trade. In this competitive age emphasizing environmental protection,China should take the issue serious,handle the difficulties,improve people's awareness of environmental protection,improve product standards,develop export-oriented agricultural economy,to narrow the gap between China and the developed countries. Meanwhile,China should cooperate with the developed countries to reach common understanding and decrease conflictions to find a feasible way for the coordinated development of China's trade and environment.
