Abstract:Literature review has found that despite the considerable attention focused on 'digital natives', few studies have carefully investigated the characteristics of this group. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the debate on digital natives by providing a 'piece of evidence' on the digital competence status of a group of Chinese teenagers (ninth grade students) randomly selected from the Jiangdong District in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. An Instant Digital Competence Assessment (iDCA) tool, developed by a research group from the University of Florence, was adopted as the measurement tool for the study. Quantitative research was employed and the research design for the study was descriptive in nature. Data analysis results found that the majority of the participating ninth grade students (n = 317) had personal computers (PCs) and the Internet available at home and the average period of time owing a PC was about 5 years. The iDCA results indicated that (1) participants' overall performance in the iDCA was just 'pass' rather than 'good' or 'excellent', which might imply that digital natives in China are not necessarily digitally competent; (2) there were big disparities among participants as regards their digital competence; (3) participants' digital competence differed depending on their schools and their ages; (4) participants' digital competence was not significantly influenced by such factors as having a PC or not, having the Internet or not at home, frequency of computers and Internet use. On the basis of the findings, the study concluded by highlighting the role of education in improving teenagers' digital competence and by recommending the development of well-designed teaching and learning materials for the Chinese K-12 school system.

Abstract:Considering the difficulties of college students' employment today, we analyzed the psychological reason in the background of informatization. From the students' psychological motivation, we presented the three contradictions that the college students were experiencing in job hunting: the contradiction between the individual and society, between the individual and family, and in the individual itself. With the advent of the digital age, the college students today are called "digital natives" who have grown up with digital technology and Internet, and it is claimed that they have developed quite different thinking styles from the previous generations. Based on the analysis of the social informatization, we argue that students should develop the psychological characteristics of initiative, activity, and independence, to achieve the changes in accessing information, processing the information, and choosing a career in coordination with the digital age, to reach the balance of personal values, family values, and social values in employment.

Abstract:In recent years, the word “involution” (Nei Juan) has become a popular word in Chinese society to refer to the great competitive pressure young people in China now face in their life such as passing the college entrance examination and searching for a job. They are called the “involuted generation.” To study the involution phenomenon, I conducted eleven semi-structured interviews with students, parents, and teachers in Zhejiang Province in China. This study also explores the causes and effects of the phenomenon of involution by combining online research and a literature review. I argue that the pursuit of stability produces the present involution while the college entrance examination and differences in family background create different degrees of involution which intensifies the stress of competition. The effects of involution include anxiety and tension for both students and parents brought on by competition, the devaluation of academic qualifications in the job market, and the gap young people experience between their interests and careers.

Abstract:The phenomena and the nature of many problems that arise in the college entrance examinations differ much among each other.There exist many problems in the college entrance examinations,such as the unfair mark levels over which students can enter different levels higher education schools,the increasing college entrance examination competition,too many compulsory subjects for the college entrance examinations and participants' too heavy burden,the pursuit of the rate of students' entering schools of a higher level,etc.However,the nature and origin of these problems doesn't reside in college entrance examinations itself that only make these problems obvious.College entrance exmination is not the root of all evils,but the congruent of various educational and social conflicts.Without it,many of these problems and conflicts remain as usual,and they differ only in forms.We must seek nature through phenomena.Despite the facts that there are some limitations in the system of college entrance examinations and it exerts some negative influece on primary and secondary education,it is still a good tool to select and promote talents in an objective way,which is more beneficial than harmful for China's education and society.

Abstract:This paper is the result of a survey of 276 college freshers with a questionnaire on contempo-rary youth's ideals and an achievement motivation scale.It studies the relationships between the fresh-ers'ideals and achievement motivation and their learning adaptability.The survey shows college fresh-ers as a whole have above-average level learning adaptability with boys at a higher level than girls, that the freshers'ideals produce a direct positive prediction effect on their learning adaptability and that the pursuit of success motivation somewhat mediates between their ideals and learning adaptabili-ty while avoidance of failure motivation does not.

Abstract:This article discusses about the causes of group discontent during the social transitional period.In addition to "the theory of income gap",the author attempts to reveal the impact of "structural dislocation" upon highly educated young groups.After reviewing the tradition of diploma-oriented education,this article exhibits the following trends:graduates' job will,their anticipations about future social status,the scale of highly educated outputs and unemployed,graduates' actual positions in the society and the classifications of their employers and locations.Based on comparative analysis,the author points out that as graduates enter the society,the difficulty of"structural advance" will be met,which shakes the order of gaining anticipated social status for new generations and influences the behaviors and attitudes of them.Meanwhile,the role of education as a social distribution stabilizer is weakening.

Abstract:Objective To examine the difference between the values of the elderly and the young, and tentatively discuss the social problem of generation gap, search for the corresponding solution to promote the communication of the generations.Methods The inventory of values which is worked out as a result of interviews and investigations by questionnaires was administrated to 596 students and the elderly people.Results There is an obvious difference between values of the elderly and the young because of their age.The elderly people attached more importance to the traditional values and the basic values, while the young people lay more emphasis on the modern values.However, this is only a difference in the degrees.Generally speaking, both the aged and the young hold a positive attitude towards most of the items of values.Conclusions It shows that the comparability is more than the dissimilarity between the young and the elderly.These two generations should seek common points while reserving difference to promote their communication.

Abstract:“Lying Flat” is the literal translation of the Chinese slang term “Tang Ping,” which alludes to the current youth culture of giving up and living a life without ambition. The term was coined against the backdrop of a worldwide economic downturn and reflects the mental confusion and disillusionment of young people. Multiple variables, including excessive social competition, unsuitable school education, and permissive parents, contribute to adolescents’ inactive life attitudes. This article presented some typical lying-flat cohorts, explored the underlying causes, and provided solutions for this problem in an effort to provide suggestions for encouraging the younger generation to regain hope in life and attain self-actualization.

Abstract:This study approaches organizational conflict from the perspective of generation theory. Although it may be difficult for individuals to be grouped as individual beings with unique values, they share similar identities and attitudes from the environment surrounding them and weave a cluster of generations. Therefore, individuals tend to easily accept generational values in order to belong to the generation themselves. It is an anachronism to dismiss the conflicts that heterogeneous generations face in a bureaucratic society with hierarchical order as simply the inadequacy of individuals who cannot adapt to the work environment. After the retirement of the baby boomers, Generational change of bureaucracy causes the need for a re-discussion of public values. In this study, organizational conflicts are divided into relationship conflicts and task conflicts to analyze the differences between the groups of Generation X and Y. As a result of the analysis, there are intergenerational differences in the perception of organizational conflict. Specifically, in relational conflicts, Generation X concentrates on the formation of relationships between colleagues and takes personal sacrifice for granted, whereas Generation Y has a high demand for respect and protection for private life. In task conflict, it is found that Generation X is familiar with a controlled and formal task behavior based on a connectedness and a commitment, but Generation Y is fatigued with the directive task process and prefers a fair task handling method.

Abstract:Objective: To explore the relationships between self-congruence and contingencies of self-worth in adolescents.Methods: 659 Chinese middle school students completed the Adolescent Contingencies of Self-worth Scale(ACSW) and the Self Consistency and Congruence Scale(SCCS).Results: Adolescents who based their self-esteem hihger on the domain of Ability demonstrated better self-congruence,and on the contrary interpersonal behavior contingency,appearance contingency and family socioeconomics status contingency would significantly negatively predict adolescents' self-congruence.Conclusion: The domains on which one's self-esteem based would have differently effects on self-congruence.

Abstract:This study explored the generation gap and conflict among teachers in the teaching society focusing on mutual perceptions and evaluations between teacher generations. For this purpose, in study 1 we classified elementary school teachers into the following: 86 generation, X generation, and the MZ generation respectively and examined the degree of mutual perception of each other by generation. Results of survey analysis show that the perception of generational differences between young MZ generation teachers in their 20s and 30s and 86 generation teachers in their 50s and 60s was noticeable, indicating clear generational boundaries. On the other hand, Generation X, who is in their 40s, is a generation sandwiched between the younger generation of the MZ generation and the older generation of 86 generation in terms of psychological distance. In addition, MZ generation teachers tended to perceive that generation differences could be the cause of intergenerational conflict than 86 or X generation teachers, but overall, elementary school teachers did not have a high perception of teacher conflict in schools. In study 2, through empirical data through FGI, how to evaluate each other between generations and the contents of mutual evaluation between teacher generations were examined in more detail. As a result of the study, each generation had both positive and negative perceptions of the other generation, but in particular, the lower generation, the MZ generation, had a stronger negative perception of the upper generation, the 86 generation. However, the perception of psychological discomfort or conflict felt by the other generation seems to be caused by differences in subjective perceptions and interpretations of expression methods or behavior patterns between generations. Based on the results of this study, implications for intergenerational communication and cooperation in the teaching society were discussed.
