Trends of Disease Economic Burden of Three Common Cancers in Women Patients in Rural Areas

Abstract:Objective To investigate the change trend of disease economic burden in women patients who have common cancers of cervical,ovarian and mammary cancers in rural areas,so as to check the rise of medical expense and provide a scientific basis for prevention and control of rural women cancers.Methods The cluster random sampling was taken to choose the medical record data of rural women inpatients with cervical,ovarian and mammary cancer in two third-level grade-A hospitals of Lanzhou during the past 11 years,and then the economic burden of disease and its changing trend were analyzed.Results The average growing velocity of the direct economic loss for the rural women patients with the three kinds of cancers was 3.24% during the 11 years.And the loss in 2006 was 2.13 times in 1996.The yearly growing velocity per capita of indirect economic loss and potential working loss per capita were respectively 3.68% and 14.00%,and they were increasingly growing year by year.Conclusion The cervical,ovarian and mammary cancers,especially the mammary cancer,in rural women peasants give serious economic burden on both the family and the society.It is suggested that reasonable measures should be carried out as soon as possible to control rising medical costs and reduce the economic burden of the patients.
