Abstract:Landing on surface of planet is the most direct and effective means of deep space exploration. Taking the picture of lander and surrounding environment can monitor the working status of the lander, and different exploration tasks arranged different imaging methods. Apollo 11 achieved manned lunar landing, so astronauts leaved lunar lander and installed imaging camera; Curiosity rover is equipped MAHLI (Mars Hand Lens Imager) at the end of the robot arm, and capture the own image of the rover; Chang'E-3 consists of lander and rover, which can captured image each other. In this paper, taking into account the working conditions without rover, we designed an ejection-style self-imaging apparatus for lunar lander, which consists of the optical imaging system, the tumbler structure body and the ejector body. Ejector body is mounted on the lunar lander to eject the imaging system to the appropriate distance. To make the image of lander in the center field of view, the imaging system needs to be installed on a tumbler structure body to ensure that the optical axis of imaging system can be adjusted to the direction toward the lander. We designed and developed the imaging optical system, the mechanical structure of tumbler body and ejector body, deduced reasonable compression spiral spring parameter according to the application requirements, and completed finite element analysis of tumbler structure body in the fall process. The experiments on the sand, soil and gravel ground verify the feasibility of the design scheme.
Current development of manned lunar landings

Abstract:There are many proposals for manned lunar landings. In order to select the best design proposal, worldwide experiences should be referenced and the development status of their manned lunar landings be known. First, the historical background and trend of development of their manned lunar landings arc briefly introduced, then the mode of lunar landing, launch vehicle, flight procedure, lunar module and transfer spacecraft of each proposal are discussed. All primary lunar landing proposals until now have been surveyed; the major performance parameters of the proposed flight hardware and the critical technologies are listed; the flight operations and procedures of the vehicles are summarized; the characteristics of each design are easily compared and analyzed in detail and recommendations are given. Abstract:Before the year of 2020,the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program will be implemented in three steps of“Orbiting the Moon,Landing the Moon and Returning from the Moon”. This paper shows that the engineering and scientific goal, implementation result and the major technical achievement for the Chang’e-1,Chang’e-2,Chang’e-3 and Chang’e-5 Circumlunar Return and Reentry missions. After that,this paper gives the developing trends of Lunar Exploration Program and system ideas and framework of the future lunar missions.

Abstract:The application and development of the soft lander of lunar lander were described in this paper.The performance requirement and composition of the lander were introduced,and the lander was classified according to the leg structure of the lander and the kinds of the buffer.The modularization design of the main structure,leg and buffer of the lander was discussed.The dynamics research in the phases of launch,flying in the orbit,landing and after landing of the lander were presented.The key technologies of the buffer design,general construction of the lander,and major paraemeters distribution of the buffer and general construction were analyzed,which had value to the design of the soft laner for the lunar lander.

Abstract:From 1959 to 1976,the former Soviet Union and the United States had launched a series of lunar probe,which used the earliest deep space exploration technology and detection methods and acquired the valuable achievements and the rich experience,which set off the first lunar exploration upsurge in the world;From 1976 to 1994,more attention had taken into the space station and Mars in the international deep-space exploration,and none fully successful lunar exploration activities had been conducted,a relative tranquil period of lunar exploration occurred;In the end of the 20th century,America's Clementine and Moon Explorer successfully acquired the new discoveries about moon,and the main space countries had announced deep space exploration programs about the moon one after another,at the same time they launched lunar probes,which pushed lunar exploration to a new climax.Based on the new technology of Chang'e 1 and the other country's lunar exploration plans,the paper gives lunar exploration implementary program of China in order to occupy the key position in the future international lunar exploration activities.

Abstract:The prototype of spatial trussed lunar lander was taken as a researching object.It was designed and manufactured by RCAMC HIT(Research Center of Aerospace Mechanism and Control,Harbin Institute of Technology).The simplified model of the lunar lander construction was given.Then,the location coordinate equations of every lunar lander foot and center of mass in inertial coordinate system were deduced.Based on these location coordinate equations,the lunar's quasi-static stability condition was gotten.By analyzing the lunar lander's transient dynamics behavior during the landing time,the formulas to calculate the transient dynamic parameters of the lunar lander during the landing time were derived;Through scattering time variables,the calculating procedures that can be imitated dynamic characters of the whole landing process were put forward,which laid a foundation for further research on the lunar lander's landing dynamics behavior.

Abstract:Firstly,the operated lunar exploration programs including "Luna and Detector" in USSR,"Pioneer,Ranger,Surveyor,Lunar Orbiter,Apollo,Clementine,Lunar Prospector and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter" in USA,"Hiten and Selene-1" in Japan,"Smart-1" in Europe,"Chang'e-1/2" in China and "Chandrayaan-1" in India,and the planned lunar exploration missions in the world are comprehensively introduced.Secondly,the general overview,key payloads and scientific objectives of the GRAIL lunar satellite gravity exploration program are recommended in detail.Finally,the implementation suggestions and important significances of the next-generation lunar satellite gravity gradiometry mission in China are elaborated.The successful implementation of the next-generation lunar satellite gravity gradiometry mission in China is of great benefit to breaking a threat of "space war"and safeguarding world peace.

Abstract:The design of the Chang’E-4 lunar farside soft-landing mission is introduced in this paper. The landing area is initially selected as the Von Kármán crater inside the South Pole-Aitken basin on the lunar farside. A relay satellite is used to realize the lander and rover to the ground communication, and a Halo orbit around the second Earth-Moon Lagrangian point is chosen as its mission orbit. The relay satellite and the lander-rover combination are launched by a CZ-4C rocket and a CZ-3B rocket respectively. The lander, rover and relay satellite containing six domestic scientific payloads and three international scientific payloads, have carried out scientific exploration focusing on VLF radio astronomical observation, roving area topography survey, mineral composition and shallow structure investigation. In addition, two formation flying microsatellites on lunar orbit, lunar micro-ecosphere and large-aperture laser angle reflector are launched to carry out ultra-long-wave astronomical interferometry test, lunar surface ecosystem test and laser ranging test over the Earth-Moon distance respectively. By innovatively designing the top-level tasks, adequately inheriting mature technology and products, adding the function module of relay communication, and opening some resources to introduce high-performance payloads and test projects, a low-cost, short-duration, great-openness and high-efficiency lunar exploration mission would be achieved.

Abstract:Abstract Landing site selection is of fundamental importance for lunar landing mission and it is closely related to the scientific goals of the mission. According to the widely concerned lunar science goals and the landing site selection of the ongoing lunar missions; China has carried out the selection of landing site for a series of Chang’ E (CE) missions. Under this background, this paper firstly introduced the principles, process, method and result of landing site selection of China’s Lunar Exploration Program (CLEP), and then analyzed the support of the selected landing sites to the corresponding lunar research. This study also pointed out the outcomes that could possibly contribute to the key lunar questions on the basis of the selected landing sites of CE-4 and CE-5 such as deep material in South Pole-Aitken (SPA) basin, lunar chronology, volcanic thermodynamics and geological structure evolution history of the Moon. Finally, this approach analyzed the development trend of China’s follow-up lunar landing missions, and suggested that the South Pole Region of the Moon could be the landing site of high priority for the future CE missions.

Abstract:The relay communication is a key problem for lunar exploration missions，especially the landing and cruising on the lunar farside and polar areas，as well as the manned lunar exploration missions. The research and development status are analized about lunar relay communication satellite system throughout the world. Based on the analysis on the requirements for lunar relay communication missions，the implementation approach are analyzed for relay communication system scheme，orbit selections，etc. The technical development trends for future lunar relay communication satellite system are also given in this paper.

Abstract:The lunar-landing is the continuation of manned spaceflight engineering.Comparing with the manned airship engineering,it requires more credibility and sweepingness,and it needs more funds.On the basis of(China's) achievements and foreign countries' experiences,the paper brings forward the idea of using the existing transportation technology to sent the launch vehicles and cosmonauts to the near-earth orbit in batches,assembling the components together on the space-launch platform,and then launching them to the moon. The paper also discusses the space-launch platform and the launching way.

Abstract:This article describes the characterisation activities of the landing sites currently envisaged for the Lunar Lander mission of the European Space Agency. These sites have been identified in the South Pole Region (−85° to−90° latitude) based on favourable illumination conditions, which make it possible to have a long-duration mission with conventional power and thermal control subsystems, capable of enduring relatively short periods of darkness (in the order of tens of hours), instead of utilising Radioisotope Heating Units. The illumination conditions are simulated at the potential landing sites based on topographic data from the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA), using three independent tools. Risk assessment of the identified sites is also being performed through independent studies. Long baseline slopes are assessed based on LOLA, while craters and boulders are detected both visually and using computer tools in Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) images, down to a size of less than 2m, and size-frequency distributions are generated. Shadow hazards are also assessed via LROC images. The preliminary results show that areas with quasi-continuous illumination of several months exist, but their size is small (few hundred metres); the duration of the illumination period drops quickly to less than one month outside the areas, and some areas present gaps with short illumination periods. Concerning hazard distributions, 50m slopes are found to be shallow (few degrees) based on LOLA, whereas at the scale of the lander footprint (∼5m) they are mostly dominated by craters, expected to be mature (from geological context) and shallow (∼11°). The preliminary conclusion is that the environment at the prospective landing sites is within the capabilities of the Lander design.

Abstract:The Chang'E-4 probe was successfully soft landed on the far side of the moon for the first time as a human spacecraft on January 3, 2019, while the lunar rover named as "Yutu-2" leaving Chinese footprints on the Moon. So far, 125 lunar exploration activities have been carried out in the world, during which there are two important periods. During the period from 1950s to 1970s, the first round of lunar exploration culminated with the purposes of the race between the two space powers the U. S. and the former Soviet Union. After that, from the end of last century to now, many countries realize the strategic significance of the Lunar exploration, proposing their new lunar exploration plans, which culminated the second round of lunar exploration. Starting from the Chang'E-1 orbiter project in 2004, China has implemented five successful lunar missions, include Chang'E-1, 2, 3, 4, and Lunar Sample Return flight test. All five missions are successful, and great achievements have been made in space technology, space science and application, personal training, and international cooperation. China will continue lunar exploration activities mainly with unmanned Lunar Scientific Research Station.

Abstract:Aiming at the requirements of top-level mission planning for manned lunar exploration, an integrated mission planning and design method is proposed for China’s manned lunar exploration. By decomposing the whole flight profile, an integrated method based on the circumlunar perturbation is proposed. Then, the three key constraints of sunlight condition, lunar orbit and return landing sites are identified and analyzed. According to the analysis results and the different time scale constraints, the mission monthly window, daily window and hourly window are gradually selected to meet the engineering requirements. In the end, the method has been verified by the co-simulation of manned lunar exploration on the integration platform. It has been proved that the proposed method can solve the comprehensive window design problem for standard and delayed mission, and also provides an effective pathway for rapid planning in a large time scale. Abstract:To reduce the launch cost of a lunar detector,increase its available payload and promote China′s electric propulsion for space applications,the lunar detector propulsion system is studied and two typical electric propulsion systems of other country′s lunar detectors were compared.An electric propulsion system scheme for lunar detector is presented on the basis of the propulsion system of Chinese "Chang E-1" lunar detector and with reference to the Japanese LUNAR-A lunar detector and the European SMART-1(Small Mission for Advanced Researching Technology) lunar detector propulsion system.Preliminary analysis and calculation results show that this scheme is feasible with the advantage of reducing its propellant consumption and increasing its available payload.

Abstract:Deep space exploration is the term used for the exploration of the Moon and the celestial bodies or space beyond the Moon, which is an important part of human space activities. Firstly, the development of deep space exploration (not including the Moon) during the last few decades is summarized. Secondly, the development trend of different space countries and regions is analyzed. Then the experience and enlightenment of deep space exploration are briefly discussed. Some suggestions for China’s future deep space exploration are given in the end.
China's lunar and deep space exploration: touching the moon and exploring the universe

Abstract:The Chinese lunar probe Chang'e-4 (CE-4) landed in the Von Kármán crater within the South Pole-Aitken (SPA) basin on the far-side of the Moon on 3 January 2019. Following this, the moon rover Yutu-2 separated from the CE-4 lander and started its travels and exploration on the far-side of the Moon. Before this landing, humans had remotely observed the far-side of the Moon with lunar satellites. However, it was the first time that a man-made spacecraft had landed there and actually left behind wheel prints belonging to humanity. Since China's Lunar Exploration Project (CLEP), or Chang'e Project, started in 2004, China has accomplished the first two steps of its three-step plan of 'Orbiting, Landing and Returning'. CE-3 and CE-4 landed successfully on the near-side and far-side of the Moon, respectively. In the near future, CE-5 will land again on the near-side of the Moon and take lunar rock and soil samples back to Earth, thus completing the three-step plan of CLEP. In April 2019, National Science Review (NSR) interviewed three key figures of CLEP: CLEP Chief Engineer Weiren Wu (), the first CLEP Chief Scientist and CLEP senior consultant Ziyuan Ouyang (), and CLEP third phase Vice-Chief Engineer, CE-4 Ground Research and Application System Director Chunlai Li (). They talked about the scientific expectations and future plans of China's lunar and deep space exploration.
Study of Shielding Solution for Lunar Surface Work of Chang'e-4 Lander

Abstract:The target landing site for Chang' e-1 mission is the rugged area of South Pole-Aitken(SPA) basin, which is located on the farside of the moon. There arc many craters densely distributed in the SPA basin, the uneven topography will result in high risk of sunlight and communication shield when the lander works on lunar surface. Communication and sunlight shield was analyzed. Then, the solution to reduce the lander's survival risk generated by the shielding was presented in three aspects: to increase the landing precision by optimizing the trajectory control strategy, to optimize the lunar surface operating programme, as well as to add the function of the lander' s autonomus management. The solution has been used in the Chang ' e-1 probe successfully, providing reference for future deep space exploration missions.

Abstract:The lunar satellite gravity exploration is the international development trend and focus of deep space exploration in the 21st century.The accurate measurement of lunar gravitational field is an important part of international lunar exploration mission,which determines the optimum design of lunar probe orbit and the suitable selection of ideal landing point from manned spacecraft in the lunar surface.Firstly,the future twin-satellite program for the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory(GRAIL) lunar gravitational field exploration is introduced,including general overview,pivotal payloads,and scientific objectives and research direction.Secondly,the executive suggestions including the feasible demonstration of lunar satellite tracking modes,the optimal selection of key payloads from lunar satellite,the optimized design of lunar satellite orbital parameters,and the previous implementation of simulation research are expatiated.(1) Because the measurement accuracy of the medium-long-wavelength lunar gravitational field is high based on the Satellite-to-Satellite High-Low/Low-Low Tracking associated with the Doppler and Very Long Baseline Interferometry mode (SST-HL/LL-Doppler-VLBI),its technical requirement is low,the lunar gravitational field can be quickly,low-costly and high-efficiently determined,the successful experiences of integrated system from the dedicated Earth's gravity satellite-the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE) are used for reference,the requirement to orbital accuracy is low,and the farside signals of lunar gravitational field can be obtained effectively,it is optimal to use the SST-HL/LL-Doppler-VLBI mode in the future first lunar satellite gravitational exploration mission in China.(2) The high-accuracy key payloads including the interferometric laser ranging system,compensating system of nonconservative force from lunar gravity satellite and Earth's Doppler-VLBI system should be developed in advance.(3) The optimal design of orbit altitude(50~100 km) and intersatellite range(100±50 km) for lunar gravity satellite is an important guarantee on the successful execution of future lunar satellite gravity exploration mission in China.(4) The emulational technique should be used in the whole process of development and operation of the lunar gravity satellite including concept demonstration,system design,component development, product test,practical application and fault analysis.This study has not only the important reference value to the successful execution of future lunar satellite gravity exploration in China,but also the comprehensive guiding significance to the development direction of international future planetary gravity exploration in the solar system.
