Abstract:Aqueous lubrication is commonly regarded as friendly to the environment. We review current knowledge of the behaviors and mechanisms of aqueous lubrication. Major methods for investigating aqueous lubrication are addressed. We describe studies on both friction and film formation performance of various water-based lubricants. Additionally, we discuss possible underlying mechanisms of aqueous lubrication. Attention is also drawn to continuing topics of investigation and some unsolved problems.

Abstract:It is observed that the non-slip boundary conditions in the classical lubrication theory are not valid for lubricant with a limiting shear stress. By determining the position of the maximum shear stress and changing velocity boundary condition to stress condition, slip lubrication equations are deduced. With numerical solution of the equations, the location and scale of the boundary slip are analyzed. Finally, after the influences of the slip on the lubrication properties are discussed, results show that a significant decrease of the load carrying capacity causes slip lubrication failure.

Abstract:The traditional water-lubricated bearings are difficult to form effective lubricating film under extreme low-speed and heavy-duty conditions, resulting in the low-load, high-resistance, high-vibration and high-noise shortcomings. The deep-physical mechanisms are not clear. The paper investigates the mixed lubrication performances and critical characteristics for water-lubricated bearings under extreme conditions. A novel multi-field coupling lubrication model is proposed. The functional mapping relationships among lubrication performances, the critical characteristics and the influencing factors are developed. The rotor dynamic models considering surface micro-topography are built. The variation mechanisms of the dynamic behaviors are revealed. The theoretical analysis is consistent with experiment, which proves the model and algorithm's correctness. The academic value of the paper is expected to achieve a novel breakthrough in formation of effective hydrodynamic film under extreme severe conditions for such bearings.

Abstract:The especial demand is brought forward on the lubricants and lubrication system by the execrable environment condition of high vacuum,large temperature difference,microgravity and powerful radiation in space.The structure of long life liquid lubrication system is more complex because of the volatilization and crawl loss.How to achieve the high efficiency lubrication is one of the hotspot problems in space tribology in every country at present stage.The studied content and harvest in space tribology was summarized from three aspects of lubricants,lubrication fashion and liquid lubrication system.It is indicated that the main lubrication fashion are solid lubrication,grease lubrication and liquid lubrication.The lubrication fashion is chosen according to different operating characteristics and life-cycle of parts.The mixed lubrication in studying and testing is perfect fashion.The suggestions were proposed for the research keystone and developmental direction in lubrication system of future deep-space exploration equipment.

Abstract:The new developments of superlubrication have been reviewed. The mechanism of superlubrication has been discussed and the new problems to be solved in this area have been proposed from the theories of superfluid at low temperature, superlubricity of the clear surfaces, ordered molecules and molecular brush, the recent advances in superlubrication have been reviewed. The mechanism of superlubrication has been discussed and the new problems which should be solved have been proposed. According to the nature of superfluid at low temperature and characteristics of the interface between liquid and solid, the possibility to achieve the superlubrication state has been discussed. Then the possibility to realize the superlubrication has been discussed according to the characteristics of the interface between liquid and solid and the nature of superfluid at low temperature.

Abstract:Friction and the wear caused by friction will not only lead to energy dissipation, but will also cause damage to the function of mechanical parts, affecting the precision and lifespan of mechanical devices. Superlubricity as an ideal state of zero friction has become a hot research topic in recent years. There have been many reviews on the concept, origin, and research progress of superlubricity, but, among them, there are more presentations on the research status of solid superlubricity and liquid superlubricity; however, the theoretical summarization of solid–liquid combined superlubricity and high-temperature superlubricity is still imperfect and lacks a systematic and comprehensive review. The mechanism of superlubricity is not explicitly presented in many reviews, which are clearly summarized in this paper. This paper introduces superlubricity from friction, and then introduces the origin of superlubricity, and presents the research progress on superlubricityby separating it into in four categories: liquid superlubricity, solid superlubricity, solid–liquid combined superlubricity, and high-temperature superlubricity. By analyzing the superlubricity system, the mechanism of realizing various types of superlubricity, such as incommensurability, hydration, and oxidation, is summarized. Based on the research progress of superlubricity, the development prospects, opportunities, and challenges of superlubricity in the future are discussed.

Abstract:he summary of recent research about thin film lubrication (TFL)in the nano scale is made. First, the measuring technique of film thickness in the nano scale is introduced. Then, the two problems unsettled completely in lubrication theory, such as the characteristics of the lubrication regime between elasto- hydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) and boundary lubrication (BL), and the failure criterion of the lubricant film, are expounded systematically. They include: 1) the characteristics of TFL as a new lubrication regime between EHL and BL, 2) physical model of TFL, transition conditions from EHL to TFL and the relationship between the film thickness and operating parameters, 3) the time effect of lubricating film in the nano scale and the reason of its creation, 4) the effect of external electric field on the nanotribological properties of lubricant film, 5) the failure criterion of lubricant film in the nano scale, 6) a new method distinguishing lubrication regimes.

Abstract:The problem that the not clear influence mechanism of micro-morphology characteristics on macro lubrication performance under water-lubricated bearings in service is studied. A two-dimensional fluid dynamics model of typical texture is constructed. The internal flow field characteristics and evolution law of micro-texture are investigated. The generation mechanisms of hydrodynamic effects of micro-texture are revealed. The water film model with 3D features is proposed. The functional mapping relationship between micro features and macro lubrication behavior is clarified, and the change characteristics of macro lubrication behavior are studied. Experimental data coincides with theoretical research. Fruits establish substantial base towards the optimization of load-increase and drag-reduction under water-lubricated bearing.

Abstract:Surface texturing is a technology to produce certain patterns of defined size , shapes and arrays on the surfaces of friction pairs , and it has been proven to be effective in enhancing the tribological performance of the fric -tion pairs.As suitable geometrical parameters of surface texture can significantly improve the tribological perform-ance of mechanical components , the optimal design of the surface texture under hydrodynamic lubrication has be-come the research focus of the scholars at home and abroad .In this paper , by analyzing the current researches on the surface texturing , the morphology and mechanism of the surface texture are introduced in detail .Then, the in-fluences of the shape, direction, parameters, distribution, roughness of the surface texture as well as the velocity and the load on the hydrodynamic lubrication performance of the textured surface are discussed , and the state-of-the-art research situation of the hydrodynamic lubrication theory of the surface texture is summarized .Finally , both the problems existing in current surface texturing and the development orientation are pointed out .

Abstract:The main achievements made by the research group of lubrication theory at Qingdao Technological University in the study on the two types of abnormal phenomena in elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL) are reviewed.The importance of the thermal-viscosity wedge is fully revealed by the new theory.The correctness of the guesswork done by the older generation regarding the existence of the thermal EHL film under zero-entrainment conditions is proved.The Kaneta's dimples are simulated numerically.Since the surface dimples in EHL was discovered by Kaneta and coworkers in 1992,in order to understand such phenomena,a number of testing theories have been proposed,however,our theory has proved eloquently that Kaneta's dimples were generated by the mechanism of the thermalviscosity wedge,consequently,the importance of this mechanism has received a great attention among the EHL researchers.
