Abstract:Objective: To compare the effectiveness of 400ug or 600ug misoprostol in combination with mifepristone for inducted abortion in 12-25 weeks’ gestation. Methods: One hundred women with 12-25 weeks’ gestation who asked for abortion were divided into two groups randomly. All woman took orally 200mg mifepristone. 36 hours later, women in group I were given 400ug misoprostol vaginally, but women in group II were given 600ug misoprostol vaginally. They would be administered the same doses of medicine again if nothing expelled from uterus. Success was defined as induced labor within 48 hours at the first administration of misoprostol. Results: There was no significant difference in median misoprostol-abortion interval between group I (9.06±8.25h) and group II (6.70±4.82h)( P>0.05), and the cumulative abortion rates were at 48 hours 94% and 100%, respectively. The side effects as the vaginal bleeding, the retained rates of placenta and the incidence of vomiting, diarrhoea, headache and dizziness were similar in two groups, but the incidence of fever was lower in group I than that in group II (P<0.05). Conclusion: 200mg mifepristone combined with 400ug or 600ug misoprostol is a effective way in inducing labor in the second-trimester pregnancy. It should be considered the optimal dose of misoprostol.
