Abstract:In recent years,the government and Party have put forward the concept of scientific development and made a strategic decision to build a harmonious socialist society and an innovative nation.They have also adopted practical and feasible measures to deepen the reform of administrative institutions and enhance the leadership capacity of the Party,innovation in government administration and the building of service-oriented government.All this not only offers a large new space for the reform and development of China's public authorities,and in particular the government,but also makes higher demands on research on the theory and methods of public administration and provides an unprecedented historical opportunity for the development of this discipline.The fundamental theory and methods of public administration serve as the basis of macro-management and policy research,and the progress of research in this field is an important marker of the degree of maturity of the discipline and the level of standardization of research.Therefore,we need to choose theoretical and practical topics with more strategic significance and greater targeting in accordance with the practical development and realistic needs of public administration in China in transition,in order to effectively help the Party and government to handle complex issues of public administration and public policy.Four major fields and subjects requiring attention in the near future from Chinese research on the theory and method of public administration are:the reform and governance of the government,the theory and practice of public policy,the theory of public organizations and government tools.
