Abstract:The paper gives a brief introduction on Traditional grammar and Modern linguistics, and mainly analyses their similarities and differences. The standard the Traditional grammar established is according to the language used by the writers of previous centuries and also gave classical examples. Modern linguistics is a science of linguistic study, which starts from descriptive grammar, structure grammar, functional grammar, transformational-generative grammar (case grammar) and many other grammars. It points out that though they are quite different, Traditional grammar is the base from which Modern linguistics is derived.

Abstract:The advent of the new millenniums witnesses dynamic changes in scientific community. Disciplinary combination and division have been more frequently observed in different fields of academic pursuit. Facing a situation like this, it is believed that a study of the relationships between the twin sciences (sociolinguistics and applied linguistics) not only promotes a more pragmatic philosophy in linguistic research but also highlights major teaching problems and encourages innovation in quality teaching on the part of Chinese EFL instructors. This paper reports on such a study, which is delineated in 6 parts. The first part relates the research focus to theoretical and practical considerations. The second part provides a diachronic survey of the two sciences. The ensuing two parts discuss the subject features and theoretical issues of the two disciplines, respectively. Problems concerning this interdisciplinary endeavor are identified and dealt with in the fifth part. Finally, the paper concludes with an emphasis on the significance of this research.

Abstract:Based on practical examples,this paper attempts to indicate the different characteristics between Chinese and English.By comparison and analysis,we can draw a conclusion that Chinese is a topic-prominent,paratactic,dynamic,concrete,and chronicle,analytic language while English is a subject-prominent,hypotactic,stative,abstract,non-chronicle,synthetic-analytic language.Be aware of the different characteristics of these two languages is a great help to English teaching,learning and translation.

Abstract:The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis and Quine's holistic view of language are two of the most important philosophical theories of language in the 20th century. Despite having separate fields of study, they are conceptually and methodologically identical. Despite the two theories' extensive histories of discussion, there are few studies that compare them. In this thesis, the general framework of the two theories is described, and the coherence of the two theories is shown through comparison studies that highlight how the behaviorist and relativist tendencies of the two are similar. This coherent analysis leads to the root of the commonality of the two theories: the spirit of thoroughgoing empiricism. The comparative study of the two theories can also portray the development trend and characteristics of the philosophy of language in the 20th century, so as to have a more comprehensive understanding of the development of the philosophy of language after the "linguistic turn.".

Abstract:Comparative literature is one of the academic disciplines belonging to the humanities, which has a history of over 100 years. It is also a sub-discipline under the subject category of literary studies in general although it does cover almost all the aspects of literary studies, such as literary history, literary theory, and literary criticism. Comparative literature is characterized by the study of two or more literatures crossing the boundary of languages, nations, religious beliefs, disciplines, and cultural traditions by both dealing with the factual influence of one literature on another and others and comparing and analysing two or more literary phenomena which do not necessarily have any factual relations but which could be observed in a comparative and parallel way. In the contemporary era, comparative literature, influenced by the process of globalization, merges more or less with cultural studies. Its earliest phase is that of world literature, which in the age of globalization has become one of the most cutting-edge theoretical topics. Having close relations with translation studies, comparative literature also interacts with translation studies since it deals with two or more than two languages.

Abstract:The comparative study of vocabulary is originally suggested by Ikudo Tajima.Compared with this former study of vocabulary,it is a brand-new academic field with fresh ideas.It takes a vocabulary group as an object of study.Its basic goal is to reveal cultural bases with language and to develop a new way of inter-cultural understanding and comparison.It has been known for a long time that the study of vocabulary falls behind the study of phoneme and grammar in priority.Also,the development of the study of vocabulary itself does not hold balance regarding the study of its composition unit,the single word.The study of vocabulary has already made advances and is in the lead.Furthermore,it has also yielded certain results.Regarding vocabulary,or the vocabulary group study,taking the whole parts of vocabulary of one language as an object of study is always unknown and is not taken into consideration.Comparative study of vocabulary ushers in this kind of group of vocabulary as an object of study.The vocabulary study of the meaning of vocabulary group is different from the other fields of linguistics that purely focus on the internal questions of a language.Simply solving the formal questions of a language may bring the study to completion.The reason is that to grasp the whole of the vocabulary itself is not an easy thing,much less are many questions that internal facts of a language only cannot solve.This is also the unique nature of vocabulary.Vocabulary and the facts outside the language have a close connection.It is impossible for the study of vocabulary to separate the culture that conceives the language.The phoneme and the grammar form the framework of a language and complete the expressions by the vocabulary.Therefore,the study of languages cannot be limited to phonemes and grammar.Only by the confluence of the study of vocabulary can a language unfold the whole picture.Language study cannot be limited to the internal study of language.If you do not see the relations that take its cultures,manners and customs into consideration,you cannot get to its essence.The basic nature of vocabulary lies in its quantity and meaning.The analysis of vocabulary must show these two kinds of properties.Neither quantity nor meaning only can completely show the fundamental structure of the vocabulary.When we show the quantitative property of vocabulary,we must grasp its ″meaning″.The question is that ″meaning″ is the existence that is most incompatible with the quantitative property.However,processing ″meaning″ with mathematical quantification and making comparative studies on the basis of demonstration,showing the overall system of vocabulary in a broad way,are the method suggested by comparative study of vocabulary or the ″Analytic Method of Structure of Meaning″.The comparative study of vocabulary began only about 10 years ago,but the attempts have been made in many languages.Large amounts of practices have been made in developing the theory,the methods,the setting of standards and so on.Massive data have been accumulated and a series of results have been acquired.Since 1998,ten international symposiums have been held separately in Japan,Indonesia,South Korea,Taiwan,and China.The comparative study of vocabulary that takes inter-cultural comparison and understanding as a basic goal has opened up a brand-new world.Its ideas that are different from the former have not only eliminated the biggest barrier which has prevented the study of vocabulary from advancing for a long time: the vocabulary is so large that you do not know where to begin.The use of computers has made the acquisition,analysis and demonstration of the massive data more convenient.When the question of the possibility of the study of vocabulary is solved,the conclusion obtained is also the prescriptive standards that are standardized and demonstrated.

Abstract:Based on the articles included in the core journals of CNKI and Web of Science, this paper presents a comprehensive comparison and contrast of the developments of the studies of law language between home and abroad from 1998 to 2021 based on CiteSpace visualization technology and bibliometric analysis method. The findings are as follows: 1) The number of journal articles published abroad has increased steadily. By contrast, the number in China has experienced a downward trend in recent years, which should be brought to attention; 2) In terms of the study field of the periodicals, most international articles are included in legal periodicals, supplemented by specialized periodicals of linguistics and legal language. It has attracted the common attention of the linguistic, legal, translation and foreign language study field in China; 3) The articles published in international journals mainly focus on solving legal problems through legal language. In China, language is the study object, focusing on solving language problems; 4) The research methods abroad are diverse, with much attention to solving practical problems. The domestic research method is single, with less attention to empirical study. In order to change the current study situation in China, we propose the following suggestions. Firstly, diverse and systematical research methods should be applied to explore more study objects based on China’s local practice of law. Secondly, scholars should change the study focus of emphasizing the language itself and explore more possibilities. Thirdly, discuss more practical problems to improve the depth of research and develop legal practice through related study results. The language of the law should be an effective channel to tell the story of China’s rule of law.

Abstract:Li Jinxi and Noam Chomsky have something in common in their linguistic thought,but they differ greatly in the influence they have exerted and in whether their studies have brought about linguistic schools of thought.After a comparative study between the two linguists on such matters as the objects and methods of their study,and the soundness and explanatory power of their theories,the paper finds out that the failure of a Li Jinxi Grammar School results from a lack of explicit philosophical reflection,a stress on classroom teaching instead of theoretical construction,and a lack of follow-up studies due to its high accommodation in classrooms.Based on these findings,the paper concludes that theoretical reflections play a great role in the founding of linguistic schools of thought,whereas this is what we are short of in Chinese linguistic field.

Abstract:After receiving enthusiastic support during the 1960s and 1970s, the program of ‘Contrastive linguistics’ led a somewhat modest, if not marginal, existence during the two subsequent decades. The main reason for the apparent failure of this program was, of course, that the high hopes seen in its potential for making foreign language teaching more efficient were disappointed. Empirical work on the process of L2-acquisition from different native languages as starting points showed that contrastive linguistics cannot simply be equated with a theory of foreign language acquisition. A second problem was that a central aspect of the contrastive program, i.e. the writing of comprehensive contrastive grammars for language pairs, was hardly ever properly implemented. Finally, there was the problem of finding a place for contrastive linguistics within the spectrum of language comparison, relative to other comparative approaches to linguistic analysis. It is the third of these issues that is addressed by the present article. It will be shown that only by relating contrastive linguistics to other subfields of comparative linguistics and by delimiting it from them will we obtain a clear picture of its agenda, its potential and its limits.

Abstract:The focus of world comparative literature has moved to China since the past 30 years.The Chinese scholars in this field have attempted a series of new explorations and expressions in research methodology,such as Explicative Approach,Original-Work Reference Approach,and Triple Evidence Approach.These effective approaches separate influence research from transmission study,perfect the parallel comparison to parallel-linkup study,and make new constructions and pioneering in many branches,as in transtology and translation literature,world literature study and macro comparative literature,and morphology and variation.In fact,the Chinese comparative literature,with her open mind and grand horizon,has surpassed the French School and the American School owing to their school limitations.She has formed a unique cross-cultural poetics by merging the eastern and western cultures,cultural views and literature study,and historical depth and reality concern.All these have advanced the world comparative literature into the third stage of development.
