Abstract:Starting with the introduction of the origin, development courses of the Winter Olympic Game (WOG), the article introduces the trait of WOG during its different stages, to analyze the development trend of WOG. Then the article introduces some typical cases from the viewpoint of urban construction including the situation of the holder city form the end of 1990s as well as the coming holder city of TURIN in Italy. The article also discusses how the WOG affected the urban environment, traffic, culture, urban image and urban construction so as to find out something useful for Harbin city. Finally the article provides some constructive suggestion for Harbin city with its chance of holding the coming 2009 winter undergraduate game.

Abstract:Winter Olympics is the most influential comprehensive winter games in the world and it can bring huge social and economic benefits to the host city. Therefore, it is necessary for some Chinese cities which are capable of bidding for Winter Olympics to do some specific traffic planning in advance. In this research, we studied the traffic characteristics and traffic demands during the Winter Olympics. We took Harbin as an example and proposed the traffic planning strategy the bidding cities should take, including Urban Outbound Traffic Planning, Urban Traffic Planning and Local Traffic Planning around the main Gym. It would help to instruct the construction of infrastructures of the cities in cold regions to be prepared for bidding the Winter Olympics.

Abstract:Since the macro goal of "300 million people joining in ice and snow sports activities" was put forward, and the purpose was to advocate Winter Olympics, familiar winter sports have entered the public domain. The baton of "net-famous cities" has regained prosperous vitality into Harbin, an old-fashioned heavy industry city in Northeast China. The city has gained widespread attention among public, not only propelling Harbin to a prominent position on the tourism radar, but also triggering numerous hot topics. Under the guidance of various levels of policy, the new business models of ice and snow culture and distinctive sightseeing in Harbin will undoubtedly cultivate a nationwide sports atmosphere. With the upcoming hosting of multiple domestic events, the commercial value of urban sports events is also improving. However, tourism popularity always experiences gradual ebb after its illustrious peak with the weakening of public attention and enthusiasm. How Harbin can deeply tap into its own natural advantages when public interest diminishes, develop characteristic winter events. It is worthwhile to consider how to integrate snow and ice-related sporting events with metropolitan tourist attractions in an environmentally sound way.

Abstract:With the rapid development of China's urbanization, the construction of high-rise buildings in cities increases a lot. High-rise settlements in northern winter cities develop very fast. The problems of outdoor public open space environment caused by high-rise residential building layout have begun to attract people's attention. Winter city has a long winter time and harsh climatic conditions. In order to improve the quality of public open space environment and create a livable environment in high-rise settlements, Harbin is taken as an example in this paper, combined with field surveys, computer simulation and other methods, and existing situation and problems of public open spaces in high-rise settlements are analyzed deeply. Then influence factors of public open space environment quality of high-rise settlements are studied. And from the aspects of location, layout, landscape and others, some planning and design measures of public open spaces in high-rise settlements response to cold climate are proposed.

Abstract:The exploitation and utilization of the tour resources of tournament athletics, including skiling, boat sailing, archery, ice engraving, snow engraving, has become a new trend of the development of Chinese tourism. Due to the unique cold climate and superior geographic location, Harbin is a promising city for developing tour resources of tournament athletics. Based on the analysis of the superiority and peculiarity of Harbin, the speculation on development of tour resources of tournament athletics in Harbin is proposed as follows: 1) Harbin should develop its special tour resources of tournament athletics associated with needs of market; 2) Harbin should take the advantages of rich resources and develop ice and snow entertainment in winter and travel for sight-seeing and spending summer; 3) the adjustment of the layout of ice and snow resources should be based on the idea of taking Harbin as the center and all-side opening at the large scale in the way of radiation; 4) tourism should be developed by the combined efforts of various departments to make feasible plan, and the organizers should pay much attention to ensuring the safety of tourists.

Abstract:Yanqing Competition Area is one of the three major competition areas of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. It has the most difficult track to design and the most complex venues in the history of the Winter Olympic Games, and it is also the most challenging Winter Olympic competition area. Taking “Mountain Forest Venues and Ecological Winter Olympic Games” as the planning and design concept of Yanqing competition area and its venues, the planning and design of mountain forest venues are comprehensively introduced from the aspects of the overall layout and sustainable design of the competition area, two competition venues of the National Alpine Ski Center and the National Snowmobile Center, two non competition venues of Yanqing Winter Olympic Village and Mountain News Center, and related supporting facilities. In addition, the planning of mountain and forest venues and their cultural context are elaborated architecturally and culturally. Mountain and forest venues imply the space and context of symbiosis and mutual integration between man and nature. The construction of mountain forest venues creates a complete set of innovative technical systems for the design, construction and operation of the Winter Olympics alpine ski and snowmobile tracks and venues, and sets a precedent for the construction of snowmobile tracks on the south slope of a mountain in the world.

Abstract:The successful hosting of large-scale sports events can assist in the construction and dissemination of urban media image, and enhance urban competitiveness. This article mainly takes news reports on Yanqing from three mainstream media outlets, namely People's Daily, Beijing Daily, and Beijing Evening News, during the Winter Olympics as research samples. Using methods such as content analysis, the article analyzes Yanqing's urban media image from multiple perspectives by analyzing the emotional color, coverage density, themes, and keyword frequency of news reports. It presents a good media image of Yanqing built at different levels such as government, environment, culture, and society during the Winter Olympics.

Abstract:The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 2022. Hangzhou is China’ s third city to host the Asian Games, so this event has attracted much attention at home and abroad. Based on the attitude theory and the perspective theory of residents’ perception, this paper analyzes the influence of large-scale sports events on the shaping of urban image from the perspectives of urban visual image, urban concept image and urban behavior image through questionnaires, literature analysis and other methods. The study found that before the holding of large-scale sports events, that is, during the preparation period, it helps to improve the image of the city, accelerate the construction of urban infrastructure, and stimulate public sports enthusiasm. Based on this, this study suggests that during the preparation and implementation of the Asian Games, Hangzhou can improve its international reputation by taking advantage of the event opportunity. Relying on the existing resources in Hangzhou, create characteristic projects, and vigorously promote the development of sports; properly solve the legacy of the competition, overall planning, strengthen the public sports spirit.

Abstract:Rapid urbanization is imposing great threat on the ecological environment of urban riverfront area,especially in winter cities.The Harbin Majiagou riverfront was selected as the empirical case.Through field survey and the figure-ground relationship analysis of ecological land,this study figures out some problems,including water pollution,insufficient runoff,loss of biodiversity,poor climate prevention,green buffer fragmentation etc.Finally,this study provides 7 strategies:Recovering natural river shorelines,identifying the riverfront ecological redline,connecting rivers with the surrounding green patches,constructingregionalecological stormwater regulation system,climate prevention planning,controlling riverfront development intensity and the buildingheight,connectingopen space inriverfront area.

Abstract:Former Olympic venues have become an important part of their host city's tangible cultural heritage. Ideally, great attention should be focused on the continuing use, operation, and maintenance of these large venues, after the games they were built for have long passed. However, cases have shown that the post-games utilization of Olympic venues varies greatly from country to country, suggesting that there is no fixed pattern to be followed. Therefore, in order to find out the most suitable and practical operating model, we have to refer to the host country's conditions and prior research. This article takes an in-depth and firsthand analysis of the successful operation of the Competition Hall of Judo and Taekwondo for Beijing Olympic Games 2008, also known as the USTB Gymnasium. It also comments on the transformation of Chinese cities that have hosted "big events" such as the Olympics, and examines how "big events" can be utilized to stimulate further development.
