Abstract:Fuzzy rough set is a generalization of crisp rough set, which deals with both fuzziness and vagueness in data. The measures of fuzzy rough sets aim to dig its numeral characters in order to analyze data effectively. In this paper we first develop a method to compute the cardinality of fuzzy set on a probabilistic space, and then propose a real number valued function for each approximation operator of the general fuzzy rough sets on a probabilistic space to measure its approximate accuracy. The functions of lower and upper approximation operators are natural generalizations of the belief function and plausibility function in Dempster–Shafer theory of evidence, respectively. By using these functions, accuracy measure, roughness degree, dependency function, entropy and conditional entropy of general fuzzy rough set are proposed, and the relative reduction of fuzzy decision system is also developed by using the dependency function and characterized by the conditional entropy. At last, these measure functions for approximation operators are characterized by axiomatic approaches.

Abstract:Covering generalized rough set theory is an important extension of classical rough set theory. To characterize a fuzzy set in a given covering approximation space, a pair of fuzzy sets, called covering rough fuzzy lower and upper approximations, were introduced, but they do not describe well how much uncertainty is induced by the granularity of knowledge. In this paper, we first discuss the relationship between uncertainty and granularity of knowledge. Then we examine several commonly used distance measures, and indicate that some of them exhibit some limitations. Next we propose a roughness measure based on Minkowski distance, and examine some important properties of this measure. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the application of the roughness measure to incomplete information systems with fuzzy decision.

Abstract:Rough set theory and fuzzy set theory hold the topic of dealing with imperfect knowledge. Recent literature have shown both theories can be combined into a more expressive framework for modeling and processing incomplete information systems. According to the hierarchical characteristic of fuzzy sets, this paper presents the definitions of λ-weak fuzzy approximation space and ISλ-fuzzy rough set based on a hybrid monotonic inclusion measure and a similarity measure. The properties of the ISλ-fuzzy rough set are investigated. The approximate operators of a fuzzy decision concept and the relative decision rules will be derived from the fuzzy rough approximate operators.

Abstract:In order to study the rule of quantity characteristics of rough set theory, a novel notion of covering similarity in a covering approximation space is introduced. Based on this new notion, novel covering rough set models, novel fuzzy rough set models and novel soft rough set models are defined. Further, the concept of similarity matrix is presented, and then the matrix calculation formulas of all the new concepts and new models are deduced. Moreover, aim to better solve the practical problems by comparing the similarity, a concept of similarity interval is introduced, then the covering classification is carried out and a partial order of all the classes is derived. Finally, a few practical examples are given to illustrate the simple applications of all the new concepts and models in this paper.

Abstract:In rough set theory, the lower and upper approximation operators can be constructed via a variety of approaches. Various fuzzy generalizations of rough approximation operators have been made over the years. This paper presents a framework for the study of rough fuzzy sets on two universes of discourse. By means of a binary relation between two universes of discourse, a covering and three relations are induced to a single universe of discourse. Based on the induced notions, four pairs of rough fuzzy approximation operators are proposed. These models guarantee that the approximating sets and the approximated sets are on the same universes of discourse. Furthermore, the relationship between the new approximation operators and the existing rough fuzzy approximation operators on two universes of discourse are scrutinized, and some interesting properties are investigated. Finally, the connections of these approximation operators are made, and conditions under which some of these approximation operators are equivalent are obtained.

Abstract:This paper presents a new method of approximating fuzzy decision concepts by using fuzzy condition concepts. The rough approximation of fuzzy concepts is investigated based on the idea of abstract approximation space in rough set theory. A weak approximation space and a CN-fuzzy rough set are defined in fuzzy decision systems by means of a family of fuzzy condition concepts, from which the values of lower and upper approximation of each object may be determined. Therefore, a decision making about fuzzy concept is obtained.

Abstract:In this paper relationships between rough set ap- proximations and measurable spaces are examined. It is proved that the family of all definable sets in a serial crisp (fuzzy, respectively) rough set algebra forms a crisp (fuzzy respectively) algebra. For any crisp measurable space there must exist a crisp rough set algebra such that the family of all definable sets is the given crisp algebra. Also, for a fuzzy algebra generated by a crisp algebra there must exist a fuzzy rough set algebra such that the family of all definable sets is just the given fuzzy algebra.

Abstract:Rough set theory is a powerful mathematical tool to deal with uncertainty in data analysis. Interval-valued information systems are generalized models of single-valued information systems. Recently, uncertainty measures for complete interval-valued information systems or complete interval-valued decision systems have been developed. However, there are few studies on uncertainty measurements for incomplete interval-valued information systems. This paper aims to investigate the uncertainty measures in incomplete interval-valued information systems based on an α-weak similarity. Firstly, the maximum and the minimum similarity degrees are defined when interval-values information systems are incomplete based on the similarity relation. The concept of α-weak similarity relation is also defined. Secondly, the rough set model is constructed. Based on this model, accuracy, roughness and approximation accuracy are given to evaluate the uncertainty in incomplete interval-valued information systems. Furthermore, experimental analysis shows the effectiveness of the constructed uncertainty measures for incomplete interval-valued information systems.

Abstract:Typical hesitant fuzzy set is a kind of generalization of classical fuzzy set by possessing a membership degree, called as typical hesitant fuzzy element, of finite non-empty subset of the unitary interval. This paper studies the constructive approach to rough set approximation operators in typical hesitant fuzzy background. Firstly, two novel partial orders are introduced to compare two arbitrary typical hesitant fuzzy elements and typical hesitant fuzzy sets, meanwhile, the basic operations, including intersection, union and alpha-level sets of typical hesitant fuzzy sets are then proposed and their properties are studied in detail. Secondly, typical hesitant fuzzy rough sets are introduced and studied via the new operations of intersection and union. Furthermore, typical hesitant fuzzy rough approximation operators are represented by the rough approximation operators of the alpha-level set of typical hesitant fuzzy set. Finally, the connections between typical hesitant fuzzy (and crisp, respectively) relations and typical hesitant fuzzy rough (and rough typical hesitant fuzzy, respectively) approximation operators are further established.

Abstract:The extension of rough set model is an important research direction in rough set theory. The aim of this paper is to present new extensions of the rough set model over two different universes which are rough fuzzy set model in a generalized approximation space, rough set model in a fuzzy approximation space and rough fuzzy set model in a fuzzy approximation space based over two different universes. Moreover, the properties of the approximation operators in these models are investigated. Furthermore, by employing cut set of fuzzy set and fuzzy relation, classical representations of fuzzy rough approximation operators are studied. Finally, the measures of fuzzy rough set models are presented, and the relationships among the fuzzy rough models and rough set model over two universes are investigated.

Abstract:Formal concept analysis and rough set theory are two important tools in knowledge representation and knowledge discovery in relational information systems. The purpose of this paper is to study rough set approximations within formal concept analysis in fuzzy environment. Properties of existent fuzzy concept lattices derived from an adjoint pair of operations are first reviewed and examined. Based on both lattice-theoretic and fuzzy set-theoretic operators, two new pairs of rough fuzzy set approximations within fuzzy formal contexts are then defined. Finally, properties of the rough fuzzy set approximation operators are presented in detail.

Abstract:Rough set theory has proven to be an efficient tool for modeling and reasoning with uncertainty information. By introducing probability into fuzzy approximation space, a theory about fuzzy probabilistic approximation spaces is proposed in this paper, which combines three types of uncertainty: probability, fuzziness, and roughness into a rough set model. We introduce Shannon's entropy to measure information quantity implied in a Pawlak's approximation space, and then present a novel representation of Shannon's entropy with a relation matrix. Based on the modified formulas, some generalizations of the entropy are proposed to calculate the information in a fuzzy approximation space and a fuzzy probabilistic approximation space, respectively. As a result, uniform representations of approximation spaces and their information measures are formed with this work.

Abstract:In this paper, dual fuzzy rough approximation operators determined by a fuzzy implication operator I in infinite universes of discourse are first introduced. Measurable structures of I-fuzzy rough sets are then discussed. It is shown that the family of all definable sets in an I-fuzzy rough set algebra derived from a reflexive fuzzy space forms a sigma-fuzzy algebra. In a finite universe of discourse, the family of all definable sets in a serial I-fuzzy rough set algebra is a fuzzy algebra, and conversely if a sigma-fuzzy algebra is generated by a crisp algebra, then there must exist an I-fuzzy rough set algebra such that the family of all definable sets is exactly the given sigma-fuzzy algebra.

Abstract:This paper presents a general framework for the study of rough fuzzy sets in which fuzzy sets are approximated in a crisp approximation space. By the constructive approach, a pair of lower and upper generalized rough fuzzy approximation operators is first defined. The rough fuzzy approximation operators are represented by a class of generalized crisp approximation operators. Properties of rough fuzzy approximation operators are then discussed. The relationships between crisp relations and rough fuzzy approximation operators are further established. By the axiomatic approach, various classes of rough fuzzy approximation operators are characterized by different sets of axioms. The axiom sets of rough fuzzy approximation operators guarantee the existence of certain types of crisp relations producing the same operators. The relationship between a fuzzy topological space and rough fuzzy approximation operators is further established. The connections between rough fuzzy sets and Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence are also examined. Finally multi-step rough fuzzy approximations within the framework of neighborhood systems are analyzed.

Abstract:In fuzzy set theory, inclusion measure indicates the degree to which a given fuzzy set is contained in another fuzzy set. Many inclusion measures taking values in [0,1] have been made in the literature. This paper proposes a series of fuzzy-valued inclusion measures which, by a relation view, are reflexive, antisymmetric and T -transitive where T is a left-continuous triangular norm; In addition, they possess most of the axiomatic properties which are postulated by Sinha and Dougherty for an inclusion measure. Fuzzy-valued similarity measures are also defined by the fuzzy-valued inclusion measures; They have T -transitivity and properties introduced by Liu for a similarity measure. Lastly two methods for inference in approximate reasoning based on the fuzzy-valued inclusion measure and the fuzzy-valued similarity measure are studied.
