Abstract:Abstract In this article, we consider the parabolic equations with nonlocal Monge-Ampère operators ∂ u ∂ t ( x , t ) − D s θ u ( x , t ) = f ( u ( x , t ) ) , ( x , t ) ∈ R + n × R . \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}\left(x,t)-{D}_{s}^{\theta }u\left(x,t)=f\left(u\left(x,t)),\hspace{1.0em}\left(x,t)\in {{\mathbb{R}}}_{+}^{n}\times {\mathbb{R}}. We first prove the narrow region principle and maximal principle for antisymmetric functions, under the condition that u u is uniformly bounded, which weaken the general decay condition u → 0 u\to 0 at infinity. Then, the monotonicity of positive solutions is established using the method of moving planes.

Abstract:The main purpose of this note is to construct two functionals of the positive solutions to the conjugate heat equation associated to the metrics evolving by the conformal Ricci flow on closed manifolds. We show that they are nondecreasing by calculating the explicit evolution formulas of these functionals. For the entropy functional we give another proof of the monotonicity by establishing a pointwise formula. Moreover, we show that the increase are strict unless the metrics are Einstein.

Abstract:The relationship between monotonicity and accretivity on Riemannian manifolds is studied in this paper and both concepts are proved to be equivalent in Hadamard manifolds. As a consequence an iterative method is obtained for approximating singularities of Lipschitz continuous, strongly monotone mappings. We also establish the equivalence between the strong convexity of functions and the strong monotonicity of its subdifferentials on Riemannian manifolds. These results are then applied to solve the minimization of convex functions on Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:We rigorously show that a large family of monotone quantities along the weak inverse mean curvature flow is the limit case of the corresponding ones along the level sets of $p$-capacitary potentials. Such monotone quantities include Willmore and Minkowski-type functionals on Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. In $3$-dimensional manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature, we also recover the monotonicity of the Hawking mass and its nonlinear potential theoretic counterparts. This unified view is built on a refined analysis of $p$-capacitary potentials. We prove that they strongly converge in $W^{1,q}_{\mathrm{loc}}$ as $p\to 1^+$ to the inverse mean curvature flow and their level sets are curvature varifolds. Finally, we also deduce a Gauss-Bonnet-type theorem for level sets of $p$-capacitary potentials.

Abstract:We present two methods to prove the strict monotonicity of the global branch of solutions of some PDEs in the L2 norm, and the uniqueness of the corresponding normalized ground states. We will first discuss the key ideas and ingredients of each method. Then, we will apply them to various classes of PDEs. Our approach is applicable to other operators, domains and nonlinearities provided that some hypotheses are satisfied. Our general methods are novel and self-contained, they provide two approaches that address the challenging uniqueness and strict monotonicity issues.

Abstract:Using the stress-energy tensor, we establish some monotonicity formulae for vector bundle-valued p-forms satisfying the conservation law, provided that the base Riemannian (resp. Kahler) manifolds possess some real (resp. complex) p-exhaustion functions. Vanishing theorems follow immediately from the monotonicity formulae under suitable growth conditions on the energy of the p-forms. As an application, we establish a monotonicity formula for the Ricci form of a Kahler manifold of constant scalar curvature, and then get a growth condition to derive the Ricci flatness of the Kahler manifold. In particular, when the curvature does not change sign, the Kahler manifold is isometrically biholomorphic to C-m. Another application is to deduce the monotonicity formulae for volumes of minimal submanifolds in some outer spaces with suitable exhaustion functions. In this way, we recapture the classical volume monotonicity formulae of minimal submanifolds in Euclidean spaces. We also apply the vanishing theorems to Bernstein-type problem of submanifolds in Euclidean spaces with parallel mean curvature. In particular, we may obtain Bernstein-type results for minimal submanifolds, especially for minimal real Kahler submanifolds under weaker conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the following fractional -Laplacian equations with the Hardy potential: where . Under some mild conditions on the nonlinearity , we establish the monotonicity and symmetry of positive solutions to the nonlinear equations involving the fractional -Laplacian with the Hardy potential in bounded domains. Moreover, we also prove a maximum principle along a sequence of approximate maximum points in unbounded domains. Our results are extensions of Chen and Li [4] and Dai, Liu and Wang [16].

Abstract:We investigate the monotonicity of the minimal period of the periodic solutions of some quasilinear differential equations involving the $p$-Laplace operator. The monotonicity is obtained as a function of a Hamiltonian energy in two cases. We first extend to the case $p\ge2$ classical results for $p=2$ due to Chow and Wang, and Chicone. Then we consider a differential equation associated with a fundamental interpolation inequality in Sobolev spaces. In that case, we generalize to $p\ge2$ a recent result due to Benguria, Depassier and~Loss when $p=2$.

Abstract:We prove a weak comparison principle in narrow unbounded domains for solutions to $-\Delta_p u=f(u)$ in the case $2<p< 3$ and $f(\cdot)$ is a power-type nonlinearity, or in the case $p>2$ and $f(\cdot)$ is super-linear. We exploit it to prove the monotonicity of positive solutions to $-\Delta_p u=f(u)$ in half spaces (with zero Dirichlet assumption) and therefore to prove some Liouville-type theorems.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with two properties of positive weak solutions of quasilinear elliptic equations with nonlinear gradient terms. First, we show a Liouville-type theorem for positive weak solutions of the equation involving the m -Laplacian operator- increment (m)u = u(q)| backward difference u|(p) in RN,where N 1, m > 1 and p, q ? 0. The technique of Bernstein gradient estimates is utilized to study the case p < m. Moreover, a Liouville-type theorem for supersolutions under subcritical range of exponentsq(N - m) + p(N -1) < N(m -1)is also established. Then, we use a degree argument to obtain the existence of positive weak solutions for a nonlinear Dirichlet problem of the type - increment (m)u = f (x, u, backward difference u), with f satisfying certain structure conditions. Our proof is based on a priori estimates, which will be accomplished by using a blow-up argument together with the Liouville-type theorem in the half-space. As another application, some new Harnack inequalities are proved.

Abstract:We obtain the one-dimensional symmetry and monotonicity of the entire positive solutions to some reaction-diffusion equations involving fractional p -Laplacian by virtue of the sliding method. More precisely, we consider the following problem where s ∈ ( 0 , 1 ) , p ≥ 2 , ( - Δ ) p s is the fractional p -Laplacian, f ⁢ ( t , u ) is some continuous function, the domain Ω ⊂ R n is unbounded and Ω c = R n ∖ Ω . Firstly, we establish a maximum principle involving the parabolic p -Laplacian operator. Then, under certain conditions of f , we prove the asymptotic behavior of solutions far away from the boundary uniformly in t ∈ R . Finally, the sliding method is implemented to derive the monotonicity and uniqueness of the bounded positive entire solutions. To our best knowledge, there has not been any results on the symmetry and monotonicity properties of solutions to the parabolic fractional p -Laplacian equations before.

Abstract:Globally positive unbounded solutions, with zero derivative at infinity, are here considered for ordinary differential equations involving the generalized Euclidean mean curvature operator. When p≥2, the results highlight an analogy with an auxiliary equation with the p-Laplacian operator. The results are obtained using some comparison criteria for the principal solutions of a class of associated half-linear equations.

Abstract:Motivated by emerging applications from imaging processing, the heat flow of a generalized $p$-harmonic map into spheres is studied for the whole spectrum, $1\leq p<\infty$, in a unified framework. The existence of global weak solutions is established for the flow using the energy method together with a regularization and a penalization technique. In particular, a $BV$-solution concept is introduced and the existence of such a solution is proved for the 1-harmonic map heat flow. The main idea used to develop such a theory is to exploit the properties of measures of the forms $\cA\cdot\nab\bv$ and $\cA\wedge\nab\bv$; which pair a divergence-$L^1$, or a divergence-measure, tensor field $\cA$, and a $BV$-vector field $\bv$. Based on these analytical results, a practical fully discrete finite element method is then proposed for approximating weak solutions of the $p$-harmonic map heat flow, and the convergence of the proposed numerical method is also established.
