Abstract:According to the characteristics of embedded development, the emulator-based debugger is designed adopting component-assembling technique which modularized all the components and reduced the coupling between debugger and emulator to enhance the compatibility for the emulators. The emulator-based debugger has the ability of debugging information storage and removing the coupling between the storage modules, and realizes the expendability of the debugging functions. In addition, conventional debugging techniques is reviewed, the ELF file format is introduced, and mainly focused on the principle, implementation and runtime performance of the proposed source-level debugger.

Abstract:JTAG defines a serial interface to access test-dedicated logic embedded in integrated circuits. As an extension, a test platform based on JTAG standard can support general verifications and debug functions for SOC. The paper presents an on-chip debug system based on JTAG standard for embedded microprocessors. It provides powerful functions for the system. For example, hardware breakpoints, single step execution mode, monitoring the registers, programming.An all-registers structure is used to support quick all-registers monitoring functions. Moreover, the paper contributes to the research of no-gap transfer of debug functions ©2006 IEEE.

Abstract:To solve the NC (numerical control) defects of instability, high cost and large volume based on PC system,the NC hardware platform was established based on the PMAC motion control card and ARM system. The structure of main control software was designed based on ARM-Linux operation system. The module partition scheme of embedded NC system hardware was researched. The solution of NC code complier and the driver of PMAC in Linux were given. The practice shows that the NC machining require can be meet with real time embedded NC system.

Abstract:This paper worked out one method to apply the 32 bit micro-controller(S3C4510B) based on ARM7TDMI system structure to automatic monitored control system.In the uClinux operation system,it designed the hardware and software which functioned successfully in the network image transferring through the S3C4510B control module.In addition,it described how to write Bootloader and transplant the core of uClinux operation system in S3C4510B chip.It is possible to the commercial applications of automatic monitored control system for this system's high speed and stability.

Abstract:In embedded systems, Flash is an often-used way of read-only memory. For all kinds of Flash online programming interface in the present industry,a general Flash online programming system is implemented in this paper by using the embedded debugging techniques. This system encapsulates the different Flash online programming details by defining specific Flash online programming driver. An Integrated Development Environment(IDE) based on Eclipse is at the top of the system, and in the background, the existing embedded debug tool is reused to achieve Flash online programming with the help of specific Flash driver running on the embedded target. In terms of use,this system presents a simple operation,strong visual software interface for Flash online programming,and in the aspect of function,major Flash in the industry can be online programming in this system,which implements the generality of Flash online programming.

Abstract:A new design method for embedded debug interface is presented.Designers can reuse JTAG standard serial port to monitor,trace,and profile the execution of the programs running on an embedded microprocessor.By using pipeline shadow registers and special data path in debug interface circuit,scan chain is no longer needed to insert in the critical path of CPU to facilitate non-intrusive debug capability.To improve data transmission rate of JTAG interface,instruction register and related control logic are redesigned.JTAG proxy debug protocol is also illustrated in JTAG protocol converter implementation to facilitate the porting of debug tools.The solution has been proven by silicon,and debug interface is successfully implemented in CK510 platform.

Abstract:The remote monitoring and alarm system based on ARM9 forsending alarm images in real time is proposed and designed.With Linux as software platform and mini2440 board as hardware platform,this system acquires photos by cameras,and monitors the screen with LCD real-time display.If any change of the monitoring area is found within the set time,the alarm image would be sent through GSM communication module.The existing monitoring system is relatively complex and only suitable for large-scale applications,the proposed system is more applicable to small occasions.The user may pick up the alarm image with mobile phone,thus saving the cost and extending the application scope.

Abstract:Driver-originated vulnerabilities are well-known threats to modern monolithic kernels. However, existing driver isolation solutions either rely on Intel-only or newly-introduced CPU features (e.g., Intel VMFUNC, ARM MTE), or suffer from performance issues, making them unsuitable for existing ARM-based devices. In this work, we leverage a common hardware feature, named hardware watchpoint, to achieve lightweight driver isolation for off-the-shelf ARM devices. Specifically, we utilize watchpoints to prevent the possibly compromised driver from corrupting the rest kernel’s state arbitrarily. We implement a prototype for ARM64 Linux. The security analysis and performance evaluation show the efficiency and practicality of our solution.

Abstract:Taking advantages of the modular nature of Linux, a set of Linux modules were improved to make Linux run on various SoC. The module improvement was including: developing a target-specific bootloader, designing a memory management module for the MMU-less processor, real-time improvement in scheduling module and organizing a small footprint file system for the flash memory. These modules can be reassembled on demands, catering for different boards and applications. Moreover, methods for developing embedded Linux are concluded, including tool chains and debug techniques. Case studies on two hardware platforms, based on ARM720T and M68K respectively, shown that the work satisfies application requirements.

Abstract:In the past several years, we are all the witness of complex multi-core processors' growing. In the meanwhile, more and more engineers and researchers dedicate to multi-core processor program development. Debug isan essential part in most of program development and efficient debugging can fix the bugs in development more quickly.It is hard for a GDB session to debug multiply cores at the same time like the traditional debugging way, especially, debugging heterogeneous multi-core processor. This paper puts forward a multi-port embedded debugger agent for heterogeneous multi-core ASIP (Application Specific Instruction-set Processor) debugging. The multi-port debugger agent will bind numbers of IP ports and each port corresponds to a core in ASIP, therefore each debugger host can debug corresponding core independently and remotely via TCPat the same time. The construction of debugger agent includes 3 sections: RSP processing part, monitorand JTAG (Joint Test Action Group)[1]driver.RSP processing and monitor are made up with multiply threads. Monitor is a single thread, and the RSP processing part's thread number should be the same as the core number which you want to debug. The communication between debugger agent and debugger host is based on RSP, which is mean debugger agent is compatible with GDB, the most popular C and C++ debugger.Each core in ASIP is independent, that means it has its own program memory, data memory and register memory. Meanwhile, every core can access others' memories for data sharing.Every debugger host can load binary program, setting breakpoints, single stepping, reading data from register and memory and monitoring status of the core etc. for the core it supported.User can debug heterogeneous multi-core ASIP like debugging other general purpose processor. Multi-port debuggeragent is simple, reliable and efficient method for debugging heterogeneous multi-core ASIP.

Abstract:In this paper we describe the debugger design, which is based on GDB and with hybrid architecture of Superscalar and VLIW double-mode.The debugger design is divided into two parts, the proxy debugging side and the client.The proxy debugging side realises the RSP ( remote serial protocol )-based basic debugging proxy function, and the client side realises the target processor adding, debugger initialisation, and the processing of registers data and opcodes, etc.Test results demonstrate that this debugger achieves the program debugging functions such as remote debugging, checking, modifying the values of registers and memories, adding and deleting breakpoints, disassembly, checking stack information and single stepping, etc.

Abstract:As IoT devices are being widely used, malicious code is increasingly appearing in Linux environments. Sophisticated Linux malware employs various evasive techniques to deter analysis. The embedded trace microcell (ETM) supported by modern Arm CPUs is a suitable hardware tracer for analyzing evasive malware because it is almost artifact-free and has negligible overhead. In this paper, we present an efficient method to automatically find debugger-detection routines using the ETM hardware tracer. The proposed scheme reconstructs the execution flow of the compiled binary code from ETM trace data. In addition, it automatically identifies and patches the debugger-detection routine by comparing two traces (with and without the debugger). The proposed method was implemented using the Ghidra plug-in program, which is one of the most widely used disassemblers. To verify its effectiveness, 15 debugger-detection techniques were investigated in the Arm-Linux environment to determine whether they could be detected. We also confirmed that our implementation works successfully for the popular malicious Mirai malware in Linux. Experiments were further conducted on 423 malware samples collected from the Internet, demonstrating that our implementation works well for real malware samples.

It has been implemented the portability of platform and module, supporting remote debugging Unix/Linux platform's PVM or MPI parallel programs on Windows platform. XBUSTER has all basic debugging functions and can debug PVM or MIP programs written with C or Fortran language. Parallel processes can be debugged both individually and simultaneously. The dynamic debugging ability is also supported. It has been running on the Tsinghua cluster system.

Abstract:A design of on-chip debug facilities fora CPU not supporting debug mode is introduced. It preserves structural integrity of the CPU by utilizing some add-on units including CPU monitor, debug control, clock/reset management and a JTAG compatible debug access port to implement all the higher level debug functions with only a small hardware overhead. The debug command configuration and execution are totally independent of the CPU so that the CPU can run in real time.

Abstract:On-chip debug is essential for design and development of embedded systems and software .UART based in-circuit debug system is designed for our PKU-DSP II system-on-a-chip .With the assist of debug data channels and pipeline control unit within the processor ,the on-chip debug module can support functions such as hardware/software breakpoint ,single-stepping ,system reset as well as online program downloading and debug software with GUI is developed for host computer . Accurate pipeline control technique and proper handling of pipeline mis-suspending provide the debug system the advantage of zero timing overhead .The FPGA prototyping results show that the proposed design is correct and the hardware cost increases by no more than 3% without reducing the performance of the system .
