Abstract:We compute spectra and Brown measures of some non self-adjoint operators in $(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)*(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)$, the reduced free product von Neumann algebra of $M_2(\cc)$ with $M_2(\cc)$. Examples include $AB$ and $A+B$, where A and B are matrices in $(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)*1$ and $1*(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)$, respectively. We prove that AB is an R-diagonal operator (in the sense of Nica and Speicher \cite{N-S1}) if and only if Tr(A)=Tr(B)=0. We show that if X=AB or X=A+B and A,B are not scalar matrices, then the Brown measure of X is not concentrated on a single point. By a theorem of Haagerup and Schultz \cite{H-S1}, we obtain that if X=AB or X=A+B and $X\neq \lambda 1$, then X has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace affiliated with $(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)*(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)$.

In this paper we show that the Drazin (resp. generalized Drazin) spectrum of AC coincides with the Drazin (resp. generalized Drazin) spectrum of BD under certain assumptions. Abstract:This paper is concerned with the closedness (closability), essential spectra and generator properties for a one-sided coupled operator matrix A0 acting in a product of Banach spaces X and Y . By combining the Browder Resolvent with the Schur factorization, some basic properties related to the operator entries of A0 are collected, including perturbations, closedness and spectra. Utilizing these results, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for A0 to be closed (closable), and the essential spectra as well as generator properties of A0 are further described.

Abstract:Let $ T_{B} = \left[\begin{array}{ll} A & B \\ 0 & D \end{array}\right] $ be an unbounded upper operator matrix with diagonal domain, acting in $ \mathcal H \oplus\mathcal K $, where $ \mathcal H $ and $ \mathcal K $ are Hilbert spaces. In this paper, some sufficient and necessary conditions are characterized under which $ T_{B} $ is Browder (resp., invertible) for some closable operator $ B $ with $ \mathcal D(B)\supset \mathcal D(D) $. Further, a sufficient and necessary condition is given under which the Browder spectrum (resp., spectrum) of $ T_{B} $ coincides with the union of the Browder spectrum (resp., spectrum) of its diagonal entries.

The main results are: Let A be compact. 1. Abstract:Denote by B(H) the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space H. Let A∈B(H), and denote by σ(A) the spectrum of A. For ε>0, define the ε-pseudospectrum σε(A) of A asσε(A)={z∈σ(A+E):E∈B(H),‖E‖<ε}. In this paper, the pseudospectra of several special classes of operators are characterized. As an application, complete descriptions are given of the maps of B(H) leaving invariant the pseudospectra of A•B for different kinds of binary operations • on operators such as the difference A−B, the operator product AB, and the Jordan product AB+BA.

Abstract:In this paper, we give the Gershgorin's theorem of the 2 × 2 unbounded block operator matrix with bounded off-diagonal entries, and use the spectrum and the numerical range of diagonal entries to investigatethe spectral inclusion properties of some unbounded block operator matrices. In particular, for unbounded block operator matrices with symmetric (anti-symmetric) corners, we give more exact localization of spectrum by the quadratic numerical range and the Gershgorin's theorem.

Abstract:We study adjointable, bounded operators on the direct sum of two copies of the standard Hilbert C*-module over a unital C*-algebra A that are given by upper triangular 2 by 2 operator matrices. Using the definition of A-Fredholm and semi-A-Fredholm operators given in [3], [4], we obtain conditions relating semi-A-Fredholmness of these operators and that of their diagonal entries, thus generalizing the results in [1], [2]. Moreover, we generalize the notion of the spectra of operators by replacing scalars by the center of the C*-algebra A denoted by Z(A).Considering these new spectra in Z(A) of bounded, adjointable operators on Hilbert C*-modules over A related to the classes of A-Fredholm and semi-A-Fredholm operators, we prove an analogue or a generalized version of the results in [1] concerning the relationship between the spetra of 2 by 2 upper triangular operator matrices and the spectra of their diagonal entries.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{M}$ be a von Neumann algebra and let $A$ be a nonzero positive element of $\mathfrak{M}$. By $\sigma_A(T) $ and $r_A(T)$ we denote the $A$-spectrum and the $A$-spectral radius of $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, respectively. In this paper, we show that $\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)\subseteq \sigma_A(T)$. Sufficient conditions for the equality $\sigma_A(T)=\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)$ to be true are presented. Also, we show that $\sigma_A(T)$ is finite for any $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ if and only if $A$ is in the socle of $\mathfrak{M}$. Next , we consider the relationship between elements $S$ and $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ that satisfy one of the following two conditions: (1) $\sigma_A(SX)=\sigma_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, (2) $r_A(SX)= r_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$. Finally, a Gleason-Kahane-Żelazko's theorem for the $A$-spectrum is derived.% Finally, we introduce and study the notion of the $A$-approximate point spectrum for element of $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$.

For two bounded operators B and C on H , we denote by M2,B,C the basic elementary operator on the class of Hilbert–Schmidt operators C2(H) , i.e. M2,B,C(X)=BXC for all X∈C2(H) . In this paper, we investigate the A -numerical range WA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗) and the A -maximal numerical range WmaxA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗) , where A=M2,A,A , C♯A is the reduced solution of the equation AX=C∗A and C∗ is the adjoint of C . Within this framework, we show, under some A -hyponormality conditions, the following two equalities: WA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗) ̄=co(WA(B) ̄⋅WA(C) ̄) and WmaxA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗)=co(WmaxA(B)⋅WmaxA(C)), where WA(⋅) , WmaxA(⋅) and co(⋅) denote respectively the A -numerical range, the A -maximal numerical range and the convex hull. Here, the bar stands for the closure. The first equality allows us to establish that ‖M2,B,(C♯A)∗‖A=‖B‖A‖C‖A, where ‖⋅‖A and ‖⋅‖A designate the A -operator seminorm and the A -operator seminorm, respectively.

Abstract:We prove new inequalities for the essential generalized and the essential joint spectral radius of Hadamard (Schur) weighted geometric means of bounded sets of infinite nonnegative matrices that define operators on suitable Banach sequence spaces and of bounded sets of positive kernel operators on $L^2$. To our knowledge the obtained inequalities are new even in the case of singelton sets.

Abstract:In this paper we derive novel families of inclusion sets for the spectrum and pseudospectrum of large classes of bounded linear operators, and establish convergence of particular sequences of these inclusion sets to the spectrum or pseudospectrum, as appropriate. Our results apply, in particular, to bounded linear operators on a separable Hilbert space that, with respect to some orthonormal basis, have a representation as a bi-infinite matrix that is banded or band-dominated. More generally, our results apply in cases where the matrix entries themselves are bounded linear operators on some Banach space. In the scalar matrix entry case we show that our methods, given the input information we assume, lead to a sequence of approximations to the spectrum, each element of which can be computed in finitely many arithmetic operations, so that, with our assumed inputs, the problem of determining the spectrum of a band-dominated operator has solvability complexity index one, in the sense of Ben-Artzi et al. (C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 353 (2015), 931-936). As a concrete and substantial application, we apply our methods to the determination of the spectra of non-self-adjoint bi-infinite tridiagonal matrices that are pseudoergodic in the sense of Davies (Commun. Math. Phys. 216 (2001) 687-704).

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution and a positive solution of the system. Abstract:In this paper, we study the unbounded upper triangular operator matrix with diagonal domain. Some sufficient and necessary conditions are given under which upper semi-Weyl spectrum (resp. upper semi-Browder spectrum) of such operator matrix is equal to the union of the upper semi-Weyl spectra (resp. the upper semi-Browder spectra) of its diagonal entries. As an application, the corresponding spectral properties of Hamiltonian operator matrix are obtained.

Abstract:For a compact operator tuple A, if its projective spectrum P(A(*)) is smooth, there exists a natural Hermitian holomorphic line bundle E-A over P(A(*)) which is a unitary invariant for A. This paper shows that under some additional spectral conditions, E-A is a complete unitary invariant, i.e., E-A can determine the compact operator tuple up to unitary equivalence.

Abstract:If $U$ is a unitary operator on a separable complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, an application of the spectral theorem says there is a conjugation $C$ on $\mathcal{H}$ (an antilinear, involutive, isometry on $\mathcal{H}$) for which $ C U C = U^{*}.$ In this paper, we fix a unitary operator $U$ and describe all of the conjugations $C$ which satisfy this property. As a consequence of our results, we show that a subspace is hyperinvariant for $U$ if and only if it is invariant for any conjugation $C$ for which $CUC = U^{*}$.
