Abstract:A designed adsorption system consisting of four sequenced cells (A,B,C and D) with activated carbon as adsorbent was used to treat the wastewater from bio-diesel production. The removal efficiency of pollutants from bio-diesel wastewater was compared among three tested processes, aerobic adsorption, anaerobic adsorption and aerated bio-film digestion. The obtained results showed that the aerobic adsorption process gave much higher COD and grease removal rates than the other two processes. In the whole tested period the removal rates of COD and grease in the aerobic adsorption process remained at high levels within the range between 93%~98% and 88%~90%,respectively,and the water quality of the effluent reached the required wastewater discharge standard. The present tests confirms that aeration can effectively enhance the bio-digestion rate of the adsorbed organic pollutants, thus regenerate the adsorption capacity and maintain the removal rate of the adsorption system at high levels.
