Reflection on the Paradigm of Industrialization Research and Its Reconstruction: from Industrialism to Physiocratism

Abstract:Due to the Industrial Revolution, the industrialism rapidly superseded the physiocratism in the intellectual circle and become the dominant mode of thinking. As I know, up to now nearly all researches on industrialization are still subject to the industrialist mode of thinking. In such a research paradigm, on the one hand the decisive role of agriculture on the industrialization process has been neglected and the process has been regarded as an isolable one, on the other hand the industrialization process per se has been viewed as an abstract linear one. Herein from the long-neglected physiocratic theory, I make a distinction between two distinct industrialization processes and examine the connexion between them as well as their respective inner structures and developmental trends.
