Abstract:The approximate nonstationary probability density of a nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) oscillator with time delay subject to Gaussian white noises is studied. First, the time-delayed terms are approximated by those without time delay and the original system can be rewritten as a nonlinear stochastic system without time delay. Then, the stochastic averaging method based on generalized harmonic functions is used to obtain the averaged Itô equation for amplitude of the system response and the associated Fokker–Planck–Kolmogorov (FPK) equation governing the nonstationary probability density of amplitude is deduced. Finally, the approximate solution of the nonstationary probability density of amplitude is obtained by applying the Galerkin method. The approximate solution is expressed as a series expansion in terms of a set of properly selected basis functions with time-dependent coefficients. The proposed method is applied to predict the responses of a Van der Pol oscillator and a Duffing oscillator with time delay subject to Gaussian white noise. It is shown that the results obtained by the proposed procedure agree well with those obtained from Monte Carlo simulation of the original systems.

Abstract:This paper is mainly concerned with the existence of chaos in a class of controlled partial difference equations via delay controllers. Using the snap-back repeller theory, four criteria of chaos in the sense of both Devaney and Li-Yorke in this system are established when the equation and the controller satisfy several relatively weak conditions. Moreover, two examples with computer simulations of their dynamical behaviors and the trends of the largest Lyapunov exponents with the initial values and parameters are discussed to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:Long-term memory is a feature observed in systems ranging from neural networks to epidemiological models. The memory in such systems is usually modeled by the time delay. Furthermore, the nonlocal operators, such as the "fractional order difference" can also have a long-time memory. Therefore, the fractional difference equations with delay are an appropriate model in a range of systems. Even so, there are not many detailed studies available related to the stability analysis of fractional order systems with delay. In this work, we derive the stability conditions for linear fractional difference equations with a delay term $\tau$. We have given detailed stability analysis for the cases $\tau=1$ and $\tau=2$. The results are extended to nonlinear maps.

Abstract:In this research, the oscillation property of first-order difference equations with several not necessarily monotonic delays is studied. We obtain sufficient oscillation criteria for both the limit inferior (liminf) and the limit superior (limsup) types. Most of the limsup conditions proposed in the previous works were dependent on the nondecreasing sequence , where , , are the delays. However, these results cannot be applied to many classes of first-order difference equations with several delays, especially when , for some , is small compared to the other delays. To overcome these challenges, new methods are proposed. Furthermore, the delays and the coefficient sequences are rearranged for the purpose of achieving the best results. Finally, we use several illustrative examples to demonstrate the efficiency and reliability of our results.

Abstract:Abstract The oscillation theory of differential equations is an important branch of performance of differential equations, which is widely used in engineering control, vibration mechanics, mechanics, and industry. Therefore, the vibration performance of different parts has attracted people’s attention, and a lot of research work has been done. For a special class of delay differential equations - advanced piecewise continuous differential equations, the oscillation of numerical solution is discussed. The θ − method is used to discretize the equation, and the numerical method is obtained to keep the oscillation of the analytical solution of the equation, progressive conditions. At the same time, four different states of the dynamic behavior are discussed in detail for the analytical solution and the numerical solution respectively. Some numerical examples further verify the corresponding conclusions.

Abstract:In this paper, we deal with the asymptotic and oscillatory behavior of quasi-linear delay differential equations of fourth order. We first find new properties for a class of positive solutions of the studied equation, $ \mathcal{N}_{a} $. As an extension of the approach taken in [ 1 ] , we establish a new criterion that guarantees that $ \mathcal{N}_{a} = \emptyset $. Then, we create a new oscillation criterion.

Abstract:Because fractional (p, q)-difference equations have great application potential in physics and mathematics, it is necessary to research fractional (p, q)-difference equations. In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear Riemann-Liouville fractional (p, q)-difference equations. Sufficient conditions for the oscillation of solutions are obtained via Young's inequality and other inequalities. At the same time, we consider the oscillation criterion of the nonlinear Caputo fractional difference equation. Some examples demonstrate the validity of main theorems. Moreover, we provide MATLAB codes for (p, q)-analogue of functions, derivatives and integrals.

Abstract:The oscillation of a class of fourth-order nonlinear damped delay differential equations with distributed deviating arguments is the subject of this research. We propose a new explanation of the fourth-order equation oscillation in terms of the oscillation of a similar well-studied second-order linear differential equation without damping. The extended Riccati transformation, integral averaging approach, and comparison principles are used to provide some additional oscillatory criteria. An example demonstrates the efficacy of the acquired criteria.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the asymptotic stability of the trajectories governed by the scalar delay differential inequalities: D+x(t)≤−a(t)x(t)+b(t)sup0≤s≤τ̄x(t−s). Here, the requirements on a(t) and b(t) are more relaxed than those in previous works. For example, a(t), b(t), and a(t)−b(t) are not necessarily nonnegative. We prove that when τ̄ is small, the asymptotic stability of x(t) can be obtained if the time average of a(t)−b(t) on some fixed length T is lower bounded by some positive δ. And we explicitly give the upper bound of τ̄. We also give two applications of the theoretical results. First, we consider self synchronization in Hopfield networks with time varying connections. Then we investigate consensus in networks with time varying topologies and arbitrary coupling weights. In both applications, we extend some of our previous works where time delays are not considered. At last, two numerical examples with simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:Bulletin of Mathematical Sciences, Ahead of Print. Due to the essential difficulty of establishing an appropriate variational framework on a suitable working space, how to apply the critical point theory for showing the existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions of continuous-time difference equations remains a completely open problem. New ideas including gluing arguments are introduced in this work to overcome such a difficulty. This enables us to employ the critical point theory to construct uncountably many periodic solutions for a class of superlinear continuous-time difference equations without assuming symmetry properties on the nonlinear terms. The obtained solutions are piecewise differentiable in some cases, distinguishing continuous-time difference equations from ordinary differential equations qualitatively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time in the literature that the critical point theory has been used for such types of problems. Our work may open an avenue for studying discrete nonlinear systems with continuous time via the critical point theory.

Abstract:This paper first finishes off the exact solutions of Riemann‐Liouville fractional differential time‐delay oscillatory system of order ρ∈(1,2) by using two newly defined delayed perturbations of Mittag‐Leffler matrix functions and constant variation method. In the light of the exact solutions, we explore the finite time stability of the nonhomogeneous fractional oscillatory differential equations with pure delay. Ultimately, an example is cited to verify the rationality of the results. Through our method, the public problems left by Mahmudov in 2022 were partially solved.

Abstract:This paper deals with the stability of linear periodic difference delay systems, where the value at time $t$ of a solution is a linear combination with periodic coefficients of its values at finitely many delayed instants $t-\tau_1,\ldots,t-\tau_N$. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for exponential stability of such systems when the coefficients have Hölder-continuous derivative, that generalizes the one obtained for difference delay systems with constant coefficients by Henry and Hale in the 1970s. This condition may be construed as analyticity, in a half plane, of the (operator valued) harmonic transfer function of an associated linear control system.
