Abstract:This paper investigates ways of deploying ecological principles in the planning and design practice of landscape architecture. As a modern profession, one of the central tasks of landscape architecture is of protecting and recovering our environment. The profession is now in the demand in China, because of China’s rapid urban development and the consequent environmental problems. A case study of the planning and design of the Li Lake area provides evidence of how the profession is carrying out such a task. The study also identifies the disconnection between ecological and cultural strategies for recovering a particular landscape.

Abstract:Landscape design for a green community should be favorable for the ambient ecological environment and for enhancement of both the local climate of a residential area and the environmental quality of life. This paper presents optimization methods for plant landscape design that take account of results of comparisons of noise reduction effects, heat island temperature decreases and effects on ventilation. These methods are based on different plant configurations and various luminous environments, such as exterior sunshine and shaded areas after the simulation of exterior luminous, acoustic and thermal environments of a residential area using the analytic software ECOTECT, CADNA/A, and PHEONICS. Three different types of residential buildings are simulated including a faculty apartment in the Xixi Campus of Zhejiang University, the Huaqing Villa and the Gangwan Jiayuan faculty apartment of Zhejiang University, China, based on green building design theory. In addition, the methods and process flow of landscape design of green residential areas are also described for the improvement of the exterior physical living environment.

Abstract:Better information leads to better design. In landscape design, the designers care for what plans affect the urban more than what their plans look like. In this paper, we discuss some key techniques in a GIS based landscape design system. With the advantage of the GIS, designers can make better decisions. A prototype named landscape evaluation system (LES) has been implemented. In LES system, designers can build up their virtual evaluation world, and establish the interrelationship of the entities in their virtual world.

Abstract:With the continuous progress of social civilization, colleges and universities have become more and more concerned about campus landscape construction. Construction of campus environment is good for college students study and life, excellent campus landscape design is not only beneficial for the physical and mental development of students, but also cultivate the students' sentiment. Thus, a good campus landscape design is an important embodiment of campus architecture and culture. Whether the traditional Oriental classic campus landscape design or the modern design that contains the western art culture breath, it is easy to see in each campus landscape construction. In this paper, we will discuss these opportunities and challenges which the campus landscape construction design faced in the progress of being created. The analysis of the need to follow in the process of the construction of campus ecological principles, respectively is a collaborative environment, function and practical, and the principle of adjust measures to local conditions, finally the main content of the construction of university campus landscape were summarized, learned that the university campus ecological landscape construction in university culture and ecology research has important practical significance.

Abstract:Winter is the most scenery depression during annual plant landscape. It could be improved depending on exploring suitable winter landscape construction methods, by using the rational allocation of winter ornamental plants. Abstract:Campus landscape is an important environment to shape students' growth in a gradual way. Design research on this subject has increased in China in recent years based on statistics of graduate thesis over the past ten years. In Tsinghua University, students have actively participated in campus landscape design and research both in academic and in practice. For architecture and landscape architecture students, campus landscape is subject for both design studios and final thesis, with undergraduate and graduate students focusing on various aspects. Students in other disciplines, who are the majority on campus, are able to participate in campus landscape transformation through various public participation methods. Through careful plan and linking different resources together, we can have campus landscape serve as an ideal platform to shape students attitude toward professional ethics, to train them with comprehensive design ability, and to teach professional knowledge in a real setting.

Abstract:On maintaining ecological balance and promoting economical development, it is necessary to strengthen the spatial relation among the landscape patterns of similar function. The growing awareness of the adverse effects of habitat fragmentation on natural systems has resulted in a rapidly increasing number of actions to reduce current fragmentation of natural systems as well as a growing demand for tools to predict and evaluate the effect of changes in the landscape on connectivity in the natural world.Landscape ecological system is composed of ordered horizontal levels. The relationships of landscape structure and functions are distinct in different temporal and spatial scales, and it is useful to integrate hierarchy and components of landscape by network concept. Landscape is a spatial structure that is formed by contact corridors and patches, and the flow and interaction of energy, material, and species of landscape must depend on landscape network structure. In order to contact different horizontal levels and structure of landscape, the paper constructed landscape functional network, and divided landscape functional network into ecological functional network and urban functional network based on human survival and development needs, then illuminated framework, functions, and relationship of landscape functional network. We hoped to lay foundation of the theory and application for functional and structural adjusting and for landscape functional system construction.

Abstract:As a kind of cultural manifestations,campus landscape is an expression of campus culture.This paper analyzes the planning of landscape structure,functional division,road system,sculpture,vegetation and landscape sketch in campus from the relationship between landscape construction and cultural expression cased with the conceptual planning for the campus of Nanyang Normal University.Some suggestion is given,such as mining and continuity of campus context,multiple participants in landscape construction,and construction of landmark landscapes and special attractions.

Abstract:Water front area is one of the areas which are the most strongly influenced by human activities and nature process in the city. So the planning for it involves interdisciplinary issues. It demands planners make a multifunctional planning with overall perspective. Taking the landscape planning of Cixi's Sanzaojiang water front area as an example, this paper expresses some concepts and methods of multifunctional planning, and points out the water front planning in present China is still too partial. So landscape architecture, which deals with the relation between nature and human, have a more overall perspective, and some efforts should be made in this field.
