Nestorianism and the GreekByzantine Cultures in China

Abstract:Nestorianism,the heretic sect of the Christianity, having been persecuted in the Byzantine Empire, was spread into Persia and the Central Asia, and further into China. Its diffusion into the hinterland of China could, by the sounder sources we possesses, be dated back to the first half of the 6th century instead of the first half of the 7th century. The earliest Nestorians availed themselves of every means to serve their missions, introducing thereby to China the GreekByzantine medicine, architectural and mechanical techniques, astrological knowledge and Nestorian art, which found traceable echoes in Chinese sources.
