Abstract:Decolorization of media containing anthraquinone dye namely, reactive brilliant blue KN-R, by biosorption using carboxymethylcellulose natrium (Na-CMC) immobilized Aspergillus fumigatus beads was studied. In this batch experiment, the effects of initial pH, temperature, rotation rate, particle size and immobilized beads dosage on biosorption efficiency at 200 mg·L-1 initial dye concentration were investigated. The range of pH suited for biosorption was 6 ~ 9, at which the biosorption efficiencies of reactive brilliant blue KN-R were more than 98 % within 48 h. The biosorption efficiency was 94.5 % in 48 h at unadjusted pH 4.3. The biosorption efficiency was 94.4 % at the optimum temperature 40℃ in 24 h. Increasing dissolved oxygen level could enhance the ability of the biosorption. The immobilized beads could endure certain salinity in the process of biosorption. The optimal NaCl concentration was 0.1 %. The biosorption efficiencies using the immobilized beads with beads diameter 2.0 ~ 3.85 mm were close. At optimal immobilized beads dosage (3.0 %), the immobilized beads were able to decolorize media containing reactive brilliant blue KN-R to an extent of 91.0 % within 24 h of growth. The biosorption kinetics of reactive brilliant blue KN-R using Na-CMC immobilized beads fitted in well with first order kinetics model in the mycelia growth phase.
