Abstract:We demonstrate in this paper a unique self-supporting strategy for the synthesis of hyperbranched polyethylenes (HBPEs) encapsulating Pd(II) species as efficient and recyclable catalysts for Heck reaction. This strategy combines remarkably the synthesis of HBPE polymer support and the immobilization of Pd(II) species in situ in one pot. It is achieved by chain walking copolymerization of ethylene with an acrylate comonomer (2) containing a disulfide functionality with a cationic Pd(II)-diimine catalyst (1). The copolymerization renders successfully HBPEs containing pendant disulfide groups at a controllable content, while with no poisoning effect from the disulfide functionality. Meanwhile, the Pd(II) catalyst in situ immobilizes itself onto the polymers by coordinative binding with the pendant disulfide groups, giving rise to the homogeneous self-supported Pd(II) catalysts. The resulting Pd-containing HBPEs having a low content of 2 (ca. < 1 mol %) have been found to be efficient and recyclable catalysts for the Heck reaction of iodobenzene and n-butyl acrylate while with a low/minimum Pd leaching (to form catalytically active species) during the reaction/recycling. In particular, the convenient recovery and reuse of the catalysts while at maintained high catalytic performance has been demonstrated with the use of a biphasic solvent system comprised of N,N-dimethylformamide and n-heptane in the Heck reaction.

Abstract:A highly efficient and reusable catalyst, palladium (II) complex supported on functionalized silica, was prepared by anchoring palladium (II) onto 2,6-bis(5,6-dimethyl-1,2,4-triazine-3-yl)pyridine [BTP]-modified mesoporous silica (labeled as Pd-BTP/SiO2). The catalyst was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) analysis. Its catalytic performance was tested for the Heck coupling reactions between aryl halides with acrylic acid or styrene, and good to excellent results (higher conversions 87–96% and yields 66–78%) were obtained. The catalyst system was stable under the reaction conditions and could be successfully reused more than five times without the loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:The palladium catalyst supported on fluoride pillared layered double hydroxide(LDH-F) was prepared by the incipient wetness method,and it was used to catalyze the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions of aryl bromides.The structure of the Pd/LDH-F catalyst and the leaching of Pd in the solution were characterized by(X-ray) diffraction and inductively coupled plasma.With a small palladium dosage(Pd/aryl bromide molar ratio of 0.001) and no ligand,Pd/LDH-F exhibits higher catalytic activity and selectivity than the catalysts supported on other carriers for the Heck reaction of aryl bromides with styrene.The Pd/LDH-F catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused four times without loss in activity.Under the conditions of Pd/aryl bromide molar ratio of 0.005,room temperature and 3 h,the Pd/LDH-F catalyst can catalyze the Suzuki reaction of bromobenzene with a product yield of 99%.

Abstract:BackgroundDevelopment of more efficient catalysts for Heck reaction is an urgent task. Traditionally, palladium-based catalysts have played an important role in the construction of the CC bonds in the Heck reaction.MethodsBy using layered phosphate (α-ZrP) as the host material, a novel composite Pd@ZrP is prepared by assembling the precursor Pd(NH3)42+ with the exfoliated α-ZrP nanosheets followed by in-situ reduction. The Pd nanoparticles (NPs) with an average diameter of 5.17 nm are uniformly dispersed on the surface of the α-ZrP nanosheets, and their particle sizes ranged from 3 to 7 nm. The catalytic performance of the prepared Pd@ZrP composite is evaluated by selecting the Heck reaction of iodobenzene and methyl acrylate as a model reaction.Significant findingsThe Pd@ZrP composite exhibits excellent catalytic efficiency, achieving 95.8% conversion within 30 min and a conversion frequency (TOF) value of 937.3 h–1 at 100 °C. The reaction conditions are optimized in terms of the catalyst amount, the reaction time and temperature. In addition, the composite can be easily recovered by centrifugation and reused five times without a significant decrease in catalytic activity. The superior catalytic behaviors can be attributed to Pd NPs uniformly distributed on the surface of α-ZrP nanosheets, as well as the large specific surface area and the porous structure of Pd@ZrP composite.

Abstract:A facile one-step hydrothermal approach was proposed to fabricate Pd nano-particles decorated Mg–Al layered double hydroxide nanosheets (denoted as Pd NPs/Mg–Al LDH composite), wherein polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) functioned as both a reductant and stabilizer. The resulting samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS and BET techniques. The effect of synthetic parameters during the hydrothermal reaction including PVP dosage and temperature on the size and distribution of Pd NPs was investigated in details. Pd nanoparticles with an average particle size of 3.6 nm were uniformly supported onto Mg–Al LDH nanosheets under the optimal conditions. The obtained Pd NPs/Mg–Al LDH composite could serve as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the Heck reaction between iodobenzene and methyl acrylate, achieving a high yield of 95.8% within 60 min at 100 °C. Abstract:Palladium nanoparticles with narrow size distribution were prepared by applying poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG) and Pd(OAc)2 in the absence of other chemical agents. PEG appeared to act as both reducing agent and stabilizer. The results of XRD show that the concentration of precursor played the key role to the development of palladium nanoparticles. The reduction of Pd2+ to nano Pd was sensitive to the chain length of the PEG, and the larger chain length PEG such as PEG 2000 exhibited higher reduction reactivity. The as-prepared palladium nanoparticles were found to be a highly stable and reusable catalyst for Heck reaction.

Abstract:Using air as the oxidant instead of the traditionally employed persulfates, the smaller and more uniform Pd nanoparticles (around 2 nm) supported on polyaniline (Pd@PANI) can be easily fabricated by the oxidation polymerization of aniline with fPdCl(2). This material is an efficient and environmentally friendly catalyst for Heck reactions due to its recyclability, low loading, and ligand-free and mild reaction conditions. It was even tolerant to sulfurcontaining substrates. This work reports the Pd@PANI-catalyzed Heck reactions with very wide substrate scopes, and discloses the catalytic mechanisms based on experimental findings and results of catalyst analysis and characterization.

Abstract:Poly(vinylidene dichloride)-diethylene triamine supported palladium complex (PVDC-DTA-Pd) was prepared from poly(vinylidene dichloride) by a simple method. In contrast with other polymer-supported catalysts, the greatest advantage of the catalyst system was that the cost of the catalyst was remarkably low due to the easily obtained materials and the simple synthetic route. Heck reactions of aryl iodides with acrylic acid catalyzed by PVDC-DTA-Pd could be performed efficiently in water. Yield of cinnamic acid was 99.6% as the coupling of iodobenzene with acrylic acid was carried out in water at 90 C for 3 h in the air. Both electron-rich and electron-deficient aryl iodides reacted with the alkenes to give the corresponding trans-products. When styrene was adopted as alkene, high yields were obtained in DMF rather than in water because the hydrophilicity of styrene was poor. High activities for aryl bromides and activated aryl chlorides were also found when the reactions were carried out in tetrabutylammonium bromide to afford the coupled products in moderate to good yields. However, high temperature (120 C) and inert atmosphere were required. The catalyst can be recovered easily by filtration and re-used for Heck reaction. Yield of the cinnamic acid was up to 78.5% at the cycle of five, which indicated the high stability and good re-usability of PVDC-DTA-Pd.

Abstract:To maintain stability and activity in Heck-coupling reaction, a novel composite carrier with controllable uniform size, high complex ability and mechanical intensity was fabricated in microchannel using natural N-doped biomolecule chitosan and silica as ingredients. Post carbonization increased its thermal stability and supported Pd@C/silica catalysts can be acquired after Pd loading. Only 2mg supported Pd@C/silica catalysts (0.44μmol) can achieve high yield (>95%) in a typical Heck-coupling reaction and maintained activity even after 8 times of recycling. This type of novel porous microspheres carrier can cut down the usage of noble Pd by avoiding the leaching as well as aggregation of Pd nanoparticles, and could be widely applied in similar chemical reactions.

Abstract:A reagent of NNN ligands immobilized on PEG has been prepared and coordinated to Pd(OAc)(2) to provide a highly efficient and recyclable catalysis system for the Heck reaction. The reaction works very well with this catalysis system, and no palladium black is observed during the reaction. The reagent and palladium can be recycled easily and do not show significant activity decay after being reused 10 times.

Abstract:Palladium nano particles deposited on various forms of layered double hydroxide intercalated 10-molybdovanado phosphate (M(III)M(II)/Mo10V2-Pd) were synthesized. Their electrocatalytic behavior and collaboration of all components of synthesized catalysts were evaluated in Heck coupling reaction. According to the obtained results from electrochemical and catalytic investigations, FeNi/Mo10V2-Pd was chosen as the best in term of productivity. The structural features of FeNi/Mo10V2-Pd were characterized by SEM, EDX, TEM, FT-IR, XRD, ICP-AES, LSV, chronoamperometry and CV analyses. The presence of Mo10V2 improved the catalytic activity of FeNi-Pd in the Heck coupling reaction. Also collaboration of Pd and Mo10V2 with FeNi LDH as a support was studied. This reusable solid catalyst exhibited excellent activity and the methodology is applicable to diverse substrates providing good to excellent yields of desired products. This method has advantages of high yields, low reaction times, elimination of ligand and base, heterogeneous reusable catalysts and simple methodology.

Abstract:A unique Pd&Cu@Al catalyst was easily fabricated just by immersing commercial aluminum foil in a mixed xylene solution of PdCl2 and CuCl2. The catalyst fabrication process led to aluminum oxide coatings in situ, which supported the metal nanoparticles and enhanced their catalytic activities for the phosphine-free Heck reaction of aryl halides and styrenes with high turnover number (TON) up to 3.9×105. The reaction can be scaled up to at least 100mmol and has been applied in modification of drug Lapatinib's intermediate with low metal residue. This novel catalyst is of good application potential in industrial production because it was extremely easy to be recycled, in regardless of the generation of the insoluble impurities or tars during the reaction processes.

Abstract:A new strategy of heterogenizing homogeneous catalysts by encaging the quasi-homogeneous catalytic reaction into a zeolitic microcapsular reactor has been proposed. As an example toward achieving such goal, a highly stable, nanopalladium-entrapped zeolitic microcapsular reactor (Pd@S1) was successfully fabricated and evaluated for Heck coupling reaction. The Pd@S1 not only exhibits excellent reactivity at low Pd adoption (Pd/PhI=0.0025) during the reaction, but also can be reused for more than 10 runs with negligible loss of activity, in contrast to rapid decay of activity of conventional Pd/C catalysts. Such reusability can be explained by the encapsulation of the “quasi-homogeneous” reaction mechanism of Heck coupling within the micrometer-sized hollow cavities of Pd@S1, which successfully avoids the Pd leaching during the reaction. The strategy may be helpful in the design of reusable, highly efficient catalysts with advantages deriving from both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:Well-dispersed palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) supported on amine-functionalized, mixed-linker metal-organic frameworks (MIXMOFs) based on MIL-53(Al) were prepared by using the ion-exchange method. Pd NPs were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), N-2 adsorption, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The mean diameter of Pd NPs is approximately 3.2 nm. It was found that the Pd NPs supported on amine-functionalized MIXMOFs are stable at high temperature. The Pd NPs exhibit efficient catalytic activity for Heck reaction and can be easily recovered and reused.

Abstract:Heck reaction is one of the effective routes to form C-C bond, however the process still suffers problems from the separation and low-temperature activity of catalysts. Herein, Pd nanoparticles supported on SiC was prepared by a sample impregnation-reduction process. The Pd/SiC photocatalyst exhibited a high iodobenzene conversion of 99.6% with 100% selectivity to methyl cinnamate under visible light irradiation at 40 °C. The excellent performance is due to the good light absorption ability of Pd/SiC and effective charge separation through Mott-Schottky junction between Pd and SiC. The electron-rich Pd nanoparticles are favorable to activate C-I bond of iodobenzene, thus enhancing the photocatalytic activity for Heck reaction of iodobenzene and methyl acrylate.

Abstract:Using fumed silica as supporter,chain amino and cyclic amino as functional reagents,a series of fumed silica supported amino-palladium(Ⅱ) complexes were prepared by coordination reaction followed by reduction.The catalysts were characterized by IR,XRD,XPS,ICP.The effect of the preparation condition and difference of ligand on the catalytic performance was studied.Its catalytic performance for Heck reaction of iodobenzene with acrylic acid showed that the catalyst has high activity at 70～90 ℃.The product takes E form.The catalyst after reduction had high catalytic activity and good recycling performance.With the increase of number of N atoms,there was a rising trend of catalytic activity for those catalysts which contain chain amino ligand.And the catalytic activity was much lower for those catalysts which contain cyclic amino ligand.

Abstract:A new silica-supported poly-gamma-aminopropysiloxane transition metal (Cu2+) and palladium (Pd2+) catalyst has been prepared from organic silica via immobilization on fumed silica, followed by treatment with Cu(OAc)2 and PdCl2 in ethanol. The catalyst is efficient for Heck arylation of aryl iodides with alkene. The effects of reaction temperature and Pd2+ content on catalytic properties have also been studied. Pd2+ has been found to improve the catalytic performance, reducing the reaction temperature (70 degrees C) and the induction period. It provides an economic way to synthesize unsymmetrical trans-stilbenes.
