CBF transcription factors of plant and its application in genetic engineering

Abstract:Arabidopsis CBF(C-repeat biding factor) gene family is a small gene family which includes CBF1,CBF2,CBF3,CBF4,CBF5 and CBF6.At present,Arabidopsis CBF gene family has been cloned and isolated by yeast one-hybrid screening and homologous cloning method,and the homologous genes of CBF were cloned from other plants,such as wheat,maize,rice,cotton,rape,rye,and so on.The typical characteristic of CBF transcription factors includes nuclear localization signal region in N terminal,acid activated domain region in C terminal,AP2 and DNA binding structure domain in central region.CBF genes are expressed when induced by abiotic stress factors such as low temperature,drought and high salty,etc.Except for CBF4,other CBF genes are independent on ABA.When plant suffers from abiotic stress,CBF transcription factors can identify and combine with CRT/DRE elements containing core sequence CCGAC,and the expression of downstream genes containing CRT/DRE elements in promoter region is activated to resist worse environment.At present,there are so many reports on the success introduction of CBF gene into to plants,and it will provide a new method to the stress resistance breeding of plant.
