Investigation and inspiration of laboratory safety and environmental protection from Japanese universities

Abstract:There are still many safety issues existent in universities' laboratories,although in recent years a lot of human and material resources have been invested on safety management,environmental education,safety training,as well as safety equipment in Chinese universities.An investigation from four Japanese universities reveals that a lot can be drawn from their successful experience in maintaining a healthy and safe laboratory environment,including the establishment of a scientific safety management framework and the promotion of environmental and safety awareness through various safety training and education programs.It is suggested that laboratory safety design should be focused more on safety training and environmental education since safety improvement in laboratories can only be achieved when laboratory users are trained to regulate their performance by basic safety rules that have been established to create a safe,healthy laboratory environment.
