Empirical Analysis of Foreign Trade,Foreign Direct Investment and Environmental Pollution in China

Abstract:On the basis of the five environmental pollution indexes during 1983 to 2008,this paper calculated the comprehensive evaluation index of environmental pollution which can represent China's overall environmental situation by using "vertical" Scatter method.And it performed an empirical research of the long-term and short-term relationship between foreign trade,foreign direct investment and environmental pollution by the methodologies of bounds testing and autoregressive distributed lag error correction model.The research indicates that in the short term exports growth could reduce China's environmental pollution,but in the long term,its impact on the environment could not be significant;regardless of the long and short term,the increase in imports will increase significantly the environmental pollution in China,and foreign direct investment could improve the environment in the short term,but deteriorate the quality of China's environment in the long run.
