Abstract:The paper proposes an open model for human computer interaction. It divides the interactive system into six layers: I/O media, concept, semantic/syntax, domain, mode/style, and computation, and adopts knowledge to represent functions of the layers. The paper outlines the open model and the knowledge used within each layer. The characteristics are also discussed. An example dialogue is given to clarify the idea.

Abstract:In this paper a domain knowledge driven user interface development approach is described. As a coneptual design of the user interface, the domain knowledge defines the user interface in terms of objects, actions on the objects and the relationships between the objects that the user would use to interact with the application system. The domain knowledge acts as the kernel of the target user interface by providing run-time support for each other component of the user interface to handle intercations between user and the application. The domain knowledge serves as input to a user interface management system(UIMS) which automatically designs and implements the user interface. The paper introduces the approach by discussing the user interface model, user interface specification notation, the transformation algorithms on domain knowledge to generate the user interface software and the structure of a UIMS.

Abstract:A domain knowledge driven user interface development approach is described. As a conceptual design of the user interface, the domain knowledge defines the user interface in terms of objects, actions and their relationships that the user would use to interact with the application system. It also serves as input to a user interface management system (UIMS) and is the kernel of the target user interface. The principal ideas and the implementation techniques of the approach is discussed. The user interface model, user interface designer oriented high-level specification notation, and the transformation algorithms on domain knowledge are presented.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of knowledge sharing process and way, a three-layer reference object model for supporting knowledge sharing management is developed according to the dual features of knowledge and with the help of object-oriented analysis approach. The framework of knowledge agent, knowledge and knowledge sharing scenario in the model is proposed and designed in detail respectively.Domain of enumerable attributes is also discussed. The model and the framework in this paper are a good reference to develop the knowledge sharing software.

Abstract:Aimed at the shortages of existing knowledge integration system that couldn't integrate distributed knowledge well, an open framework of knowledge integration system oriented to product design was proposed. The main function models and key technologies were analyzed. The process of product design based on knowledge integration system was studied. According to knowledge expression and reasoning technologies, the knowledge expression and reasoning system was established and the product model was depicted with XML. A novel fuzzy consistent method was proposed to search product model. Finally a prototype system of knowledge integration is developed for Auto parts and it realizes eddy current retarder design based on knowledge integration. © 2006 IEEE.

Abstract:Openness is one of the features of modem open robot controllers (ORC). The extending ability of control software is one of the important aspects related to openness. In order to overcome the limit of two existing extending mechanisms, a composite extending mechanism which has mixed their merits is presented. On the found of this mechanism, a conceptual model of interface component in the extending mechanism is completed by the means of Hierarchical object-oriented Petri net (HOONet) according to the function analyzing results of interface components, because HOONet can support dynamic extending model and encompass strong ability of abstraction and verification. This kind of interface component can support not only communicating function but also reliability function (information feedback function).

Abstract:In this paper, combining the technology of Networks, especially Collaborative Engineering, Knowledge Management Collaborative Modeling System (KMCMS) is conceptualized and presented, which is based on Browser/Server Architecture. Subsequently, the module structure, main functions and interfaces, main key technologies and characteristic of KMCMS are analyzed and summarized. In the end, based on the system developed by ourselves, running process and some main interfaces of the system are illustrated.

Abstract:Geoscientific models have rapidly developed in recent decades as effective tools to understand the past, perceive the present, and predict the future. However, with the increasing number of models available, discovering suitable ones and applying them properly in problem‐solving situations has become more challenging. Existing materials describing geoscientific models (e.g., articles, manuals, handbooks, metadata documents, and web pages) are scattered and varied in structure and content. To help model users from different disciplinary backgrounds find, access, implement, and reuse models more conveniently, we propose an open knowledge framework for geoscientific models. The knowledge framework includes three levels: a resource level for indicating where to find a model, a connection level for indicating what materials are related to a model, and an application level for indicating how the model is applied. Through such a three‐level framework, model users can collaboratively provide descriptive information for a model, link different materials to a model (e.g., data, references, and tools), and contribute experiences regarding model application in practical cases (as reusable solutions). Thus, a web‐based community can be formed to facilitate the better use of geoscientific models. This article introduces the Open Geographic Modeling and Simulation System (OpenGMS) as the implementation of this open knowledge framework. Case studies are given to showcase the effectiveness and capability of the proposed framework.

Abstract:Abstract To obtain innovative concepts in design, designers often need to retrieve and use interdisciplinary knowledge. Concept-Knowledge (C-K) theory emphasizes the role of knowledge and introduce the Knowledge (K) space and Concept (C) space, employing operators to transform the contents between these spaces. Some studies, based on this theory, have successfully provided designers with different forms of knowledge to stimulate concept generation. However, the amount of knowledge provided in these studies is limited, and they fail to offer convenient methods for knowledge retrieval and reasoning, making it challenging to meet the needs of conceptual design across different fields. This paper proposes an enhanced C-K method leveraging large language models (LLMs) to help designers retrieve knowledge and uncover potentially new concepts. Our method redefines the C space and K space within the context of LLMs, dividing the properties of Concept into function, appearance, and technology, and requiring the knowledge to correspond to these properties, thereby facilitating a structured connection between concepts and knowledge. Based on this definition, we achieved flexible knowledge retrieval and concept ideation leveraging LLMs. We also conducted a case study on wearable devices to validate our method. The results showed that our method helped designers to retrieve professional knowledge and inspired them to create feasible and innovative concepts.

Abstract:One of the problems in building collaborative and intelligent design systems is the difficulty in integrating computer supported collaborative work (CSCW) with knowledge to generate results to the satisfaction of designers who often have high demands on aesthetics. In order to assist designers in the early stages of a product development this paper develops an intelligent methodology for integrating user knowledge and design knowledge. Taken the mobile phone form design as an example, a prototype intelligent conceptual design system is implemented, which consists essentially of the knowledge agents, each of which is a knowledge system with the capabilities of problem reasoning and learning. With this system, product designer and user can carry out simultaneously and intelligently in an Internet-based computer-aided product concurrent design system.

Abstract:This paper presents an object-based model to support the construction of user interfaces of CSCW systems. The model divides a cooperative system into layers and each layer is formed by component objects. A principal focus of the model is the provision of an object linking mechanism which links the relevant objects in the same interactive layers of multiple users to realize multi-level collaboration which is independent of the application. In addition, multi-level collaboration obtains fine-grained collaboration of the cooperative system and improves its collaboration efficiency. The object-based method used in this paper ensures a structured collaboration, realizes a simple collaboration management, and facilitates cooperative system development.

Abstract:Flexible modular design provides an approach to rapid response design of large mechanical products, such as hydraulic press machine. This implies a knowledge model to support the design process. This paper introduced the concept of flexible module, and proposed an object-oriented approach to modeling design knowledge, in which modules were represented as objects. The object architecture consists of three tiers: function module, flexible module and instance module. A frame-based object description language (FBODL) was proposed to represent multiple domain knowledge, in which the design knowledge module was termed as knowledge unit. The case based reasoning and frame based reasoning process were described. An example of knowledge base for modular hydraulic press machine design was given to illustrate the methodology.

Abstract:Traditional methods of open equation modeling have great limitations in the maintenance and reuse of models, especially for large-scale modeling problems. Legacy models could not be inherited and reused easily. Open equation technique and object-oriented method are deeply investigated and integrated. A new modeling approach is presented based on that. The framework structure of the new modeling environment is proposed and designed. The new modeling approach is used for formulating simulation and optimization problems of chemical processes. The taxonomy, definition, and organization of chemical engineering class library are proposed and implemented. The validity, usability and efficiency are demonstrated in modeling an adiabatic flash process.

Abstract:The paper presents a model for CAPP (computer aided process planning) system, which integrates process data together in an open structure. The model consists of two components. The first is to construct improved class hierarchy. According to industry classification standards, process sources are abstracted and generated to form reusable and derivable classes that describe process source by inheritance, or through schema evolution. The second is to build communications among form feature, process device and process method. The model draws an expression (F, M, S), which depicts element's reference to another or action on others. By which, operation result is feedback in a twinkle in process planning. To practice the model in CAPP system, both OODB and KDB are used. OODB stores dynamic data that include general process source. KDBs describe mapping rules among feature, device and method.

Abstract:A hierarchical framework for product knowledge management was presented to represent,reuse,share and exchange product knowledge.Integrating the contents in 3D models and product design knowledge,the framework is divided into three levels: metadata layer,ontology layer and application layer.Data in the metadata layer is automatically extracted from standard for the exchange of product model data(STEP) files.The metadata layer is used to precisely navigate for product data.Based on a layered product model,the ontology layer is constructed to represent product data in a general and uniform way.By mapping between form-features extracted from 3D models and ontology concepts,a new retrieval mechanism on the application layer bridgeds the gap between semantic-based approaches and case-based approaches.A prototype system was implemented to demonstrate the feasibility and effectivity of the advanced methodology.

Abstract:Because of the complexity of modern product design, the web-based collaborative product design aroused considerable attention of manufacturers in the last few years with the development of Internet technology. But it is still hardly achievable due to the difficulty to share product knowledge from different designers and systems. In this paper, we firstly create an ontology-based product model, which consists of PPR (Product, Process and Resource) concept models and PPR characteristic models, to describe product knowledge. Afterwards, how to represent the model in XML is discussed in detail. Then the mechanism of product knowledge collection and integration from different application systems based on interface agents is introduced. At last, a web-based open-architecture product knowledge integrating and sharing prototype system AD-HUB is developed. An example is also given and it shows that the theory discussed in this paper is efficient to represent and integrate product knowledge in web-based collaborative design processes.
