Abstract:CAN communication between the hybrid vehicle controller and other controllers are very important to realize and implement a reliable control strategy. And the CAN communication protocol has to cooperate with the SAE J1939 protocol to communicate with the engine management system (EMS) and other components already exits which conform to SAE J1939. And because the HEV control system is a distributed system, there is more than one controller in HEV control system that is required to be calibrated. So the serial communication protocol and calibration system in this paper should fulfill the function of multi-nodes calibration. A new practical communication protocol is proposed and implemented for the control and communication of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) based on SAE J1939. A user-friendly calibration system is developed based on CAN Calibration Protocol (CCP) with the function of measurement data acquisition and parameter calibration. It has the features of fast responsibility, good real-time performance and flexibility to apply it to different types of hybrid vehicle with only few changes needed. As an example, the new communication protocol and calibration system is applied into the ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) hybrid vehicle. Test results exhibit good real-time behavior, dependability, and flexibility to meet the stringent requirements.
