Abstract:Objective To compare the stressor status before and after burden-reducing for seven years among middle school students in Zhejiang Province, and to provide theoretical evidence for mental intervention measures. Methods The Scale of Stressors for Middle School Students was used to evaluate the stressors of middle school students in Zhejiang Province in 2007. The data were compared with those from the previous study using the same scale in Zhejiang Province seven years ago. Results After the burden-reducing, except for the grade one and two in junior school, the stressors were reduced in both junior and senior schools. However, the scores of self physical and mental stressors increased in girls. After burden reducing, two items belonging to the stress from the teachers were not in the top 10 stressful events, but other two items belonging to stress from self became in the top 10. Except the self stress, the scores of stress differed in different grades with the highest scores in grade two in junior school. The top three stressors for each grade were the stress from study, self and peers. Although study stress was still the biggest for each grade, the decreased with statistical significance except in grade one and two in junior school. Conclusion The burden-reducing policy have effects in some extent. In order to reduce stress in middle school students, efforts should be made in three aspects, such as study pressure, personality and inter-personal relationship.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the current condition of the mental health of P.E.vocational college students,and to explore the main factors affecting their mental health.117 students from Zhejiang Vocational College of Physical Education participated in the survey.The results showed:(1) The self-developed questionnaire had a good reliability and validity;(2) The rate of mental problems found was 9.4% among the P.E.vocational college students;(3) There was a significant difference between the two kinds of students respectively graduated from high schools and polytechnic schools in the aspects of main factors affecting mental health;(4) The factor of social interaction and the academic factor showed a significant regression effect on the level of students' mental health.

Abstract:Background: Professional pressure is one of the most concerned issues in society. Teachers are a group of people with greater professional pressure. The pressure sources include students, schools and society. Objective: This exploration aims to explore the professional pressure and mental health of college teachers. Method: Based on the expectancy theory, the professional pressure and mental health of different college teachers are investigated. The overall steps are as follows: the determination of topic, questionnaire design, questionnaire distribution and recovery, questionnaire data analysis to obtain results, as well as countermeasure analysis based on the results. Results: The investigation suggests that the sores of college teachers' work pressure load, family life pressure, interpersonal pressure, physical and mental pressure, leadership and organizational factors pressure, career development pressure, scientific research, and professional title pressure are high. From senior to elementary, the pressure of teachers increases first and then decreases. The professional development pressure of liberal arts teachers is significantly higher than that of science teachers and engineering teachers (P < 0.05). Among science and engineering teachers, the professional development pressure of science teachers is relatively high. Men have better mental health than women (P < 0.05). Unmarried teachers have the best mental health status, followed by married and finally divorced (P < 0.05). The mental health of senior and elementary teachers is significantly better than that of sub-senior teachers and intermediate teachers (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The investigation on professional pressure and mental health of college teachers can contribute to the related problem solving in China, as well as enrich the content of relevant fields in China.
Teachers' Perceptions of Student Mental Health in Eastern China: A Qualitative Study.

Abstract:In China, primary and secondary school teachers, known as ban zhu ren, have pastoral responsibility for the students in their class. The aim of this preliminary study is to identify how ban zhu ren perceive the mental health of their students, and how they have acted on these perceptions. Content analysis was used to organize the data and distinguish categories or themes derived from in-depth semi-structured interviews conducted with 27 ban zhu ren from Zhejiang and Anhui provinces. Frequencies of informant responses were used to identify the areas of agreement and disagreement across identified categories and themes among the informants. The results illustrate that the informants consider issues, such as not paying attention in class (n = 14), not getting along well with classmates (n = 12), and excessive gaming (n = 11) to be indicative of mental illness, although these would commonly be considered normal adolescent behaviors. Fifteen informants admitted that they found it difficult to work with student mental health issues, and 18 felt they had inadequate or non-existent training. However, all informants stated that they had intervened with what they perceived to be students' mental health issues, although only 9 informants had referred students for professional help. The informants reported that they were reluctant to provide referrals, due to the stigmatization they believed students would experience if given a diagnosis of mental illness. We conclude that among our informants there is a lack of agreement on what behavioral and mental health issues are, and that informants may be confusing what are, in actuality, non-conformist or non-compliant (yet often normal), adolescent behaviors with mental illness due to insufficient mental health training.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To identify the effective stress management strategies among the Chinese.METHODS:The sample was selected from Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Taiyuan by using a multi-stage sampling procedure, including 3679 subjects. The data were collected using the household interviewing survey method. The Chinese perceived stress scales (CPSS) measured stress. Stress management strategies included the cognitive and behavioral ones, the former were further divided into positive, neutral and negative ones and the latter were divided into three kinds, i.e. looking for support, liberating and displacing, and relaxing and detracting. The frequency of their usage and their perceived effectiveness were assessed. Multivariable analysis was used to examine the association between various stress management strategies and stress.RESULTS:The prevalence of health risk stress (HRS) was 44.54% (95% CI: 42.90% - 46.12%). Among the cognitive strategies, all the positive strategies and one of neutral strategies ("Suiyuan") were associated with lower HRS, and the rest of them had no effects. Among the behavioral strategies, all were associated with lower HRS except that of looking for support.CONCLUSION:The effective stress management strategies identified in this study might be used to develop a stress management program.

Abstract:The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships among job stress, burnout, depression, and health among university teachers in China. Using a stratified random sampling method, a sample of 300 university teachers completed the Occupational Stress Indicator–2 (OSI–2), Maslach Burnout Inventory–General Survey (MBI–GS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF–36). Path analysis showed that burnout was a mediator among job stress, the occurrence and exacerbation of depressive symptoms, and poor physical health.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the influence of head nurses' peer support on job stress of nurses. Methods: By adopting quasi-experiment design, nurses were randomly selected from Shaoyifu Hospital of Zhejiang university from March 2006 to March 2007. All nurses were investigated by either filling out questionnaire of combination of quality and quantity study or interviewed in semi-structural mode. Results: After intervention, the job stress of nurses from management atmosphere decreased remarkably. And nurses' sensation of head nurses' supports from five aspects of objective, consciousness, goal, action and process management and total support levels have been enhanced. All interviewees had positive evaluation on head nurses' supports. Conclusion: To certain extent, head nurses' peer support can relief the job stress for nurses.
A Survey of Teachers' Status in Mental Health Education Management Based on Big Data Analysis

Abstract:This paper uses the theory of mental health education to conduct an in-depth study and analysis of teachers' educational management, and based on this, it designs a survey method on teachers' status and analyzes its strategic methods based on the results of the survey. Using literature analysis, questionnaires, survey interviews, and statistical analysis, the analysis of mental health of primary and secondary school teachers in the city was made. The results of the survey and analysis of the questionnaire results were used to construct a compatible mental health evaluation model. It was found that the overall level of elementary school teachers' mental health is poor at present, and different levels of mental health were presented with school sections and ages. A total of 286 questionnaires were distributed, 278 valid questionnaires were returned, and statistical analysis was conducted using EXCEL tables based on the collected data. The data analysis results show that the mental health level of teachers in middle school is significantly lower than that of teachers in primary school, and the mental health level of teachers in primary and secondary schools decreases with the increase of age. Therefore, to prevent the small and the gradual, start from the source; do a good job in the publicity of mental health education in peacetime; popularize the knowledge of mental health, so that teachers have a correct understanding of mental health education; improve the professional level of teachers; set up professional teachers in professional positions; establish sound job system and evaluation system, etc. Promote the balanced development of school psychological counseling rooms, strengthen the construction of professional teachers in mental health education, improve various systems of mental health education, comprehensively popularize teachers' mental health education and training, and mobilize teachers' enthusiasm for scientific research on mental health education. Improve the understanding of mental health education in colleges and universities, and regard mental health education as the foundation of all education.

Abstract:In order to understand the occupational stress and mental health of primary and secondary school teachers in Shaoguan, and the relationship between them, a survey was conducted on 233 primary and secondary school teachers in Shaoguan, using the "Professional Stressor Scale for Primary and Secondary School Teachers" and "SCL-90". SPSS24.0 was used to analyze the data. The results shows that: (1) The occupational stress of primary and secondary school teachers in Shaoguan is in medium level and is relatively common; the occupational stress of teachers varies with the gender, class, education stage, and teaching age. (2) The mental health of primary and secondary school teachers in Shaoguan is in medium level, and more teachers have mild psychological problems. Teachers’ mental health is affected by gender, age, class and education stage. (3) The occupational pressure of teachers is negatively correlated with the level of mental health, and occupational pressure can significantly negatively predict their level of mental health.

Abstract:Background: With the rapid advancement of the educational reform, the requirements for primary and secondary school teachers are increasing, which makes the work pressure of teachers become greater, which can lead to a variety of mental health problems. It is the primary task to promote the psychological health of primary and secondary school teachers by analyzing the stress of teachers and putting forward reasonable countermeasures. Objective: The study aimed to analyze the direct and indirect effects of occupational stress on the mental health level of primary and secondary school teachers. Methods: 317 teachers from 6 rural primary and secondary schools in Zhejiang province were selected as research subjects. A questionnaire was designed to collect information of occupational stress, mental health, and social support scores. The teachers were compared for differences in gender, marriage status, class teacher, occupational stress, and mental health. The correlation among occupational stress, mental health, and social support was analyzed by structural equation model. Results: The occupational stress of male teachers was higher than that of female teachers in self-development, work load, and career expectation, and the mental health was lower than that of female teachers in work (P < 0.05). The occupational stress of married teachers was significantly higher than that of unmarried teachers, and their mental health was significantly higher than that of unmarried teachers (P < 0.05). The occupational stress of teachers with senior professional titles was lower than that of teachers with primary and intermediate titles in the dimensions of self-development, work load, and career expectation (P < 0.05). The occupational stress of class teachers was higher than that of non-class teachers in terms of student factors, work load, and career expectation (P < 0.05). The direct path coefficient between occupational stress and mental health was -0.421, and the indirect path coefficient between occupational stress and mental health was -0.172. Conclusions: The occupational stress of male, married, class teacher, and teacher with the primary and intermediate titles was significantly greater than that of female, unmarried, non-class teacher, and senior title teacher. In conclusion, the occupational stress of primary and secondary school teachers can not only directly predict the mental health level, but also indirectly affect the mental health level through social support.

Abstract:Mental health is an important element of human public health. To investigate the respective causes of and the relationship between effort-reward imbalance and psychological anxiety of university teachers, the author, after making a targeted survey of more than 2000 questionnaires and conducting statistics and analysis of the survey data, discovers that the effort-reward imbalance has a significant effect on the anxiety of university teachers and meanwhile, effort-reward imbalance will indirectly affect the anxiety of university teachers through the breach of psychological contracts and thus directly affect the mental health of university teachers. To solve this problem, the author takes advantage of the psychological contract theory and designs a mental health improvement system for university teachers, that is, to pay more attention to the feeling of effort-reward balance of young university teachers, to give more care and help to teachers who have imbalance feelings, to take the maintenance of psychological contracts as an important starting point of the ideological work of young teachers in universities, and so on. Through the implementation of relevant systems, colleges and universities have effectively strengthened their ability to fulfill contracts, established convenient and unobstructed communication channels, prevented breach of psychological contracts of teachers, and prevented teachers from working at high exhaustion at the cost of their physical and mental health, which can finally improve the job satisfaction and professional development of university teachers and enable them to be devoted to higher education in better health.

Abstract:The dual stress from teaching and scientific research performance assessment must be placed on newly-employed teachers of colleges and universities as a special group of teachers of colleges and universities at the beginning of their role change and adaptation. In this paper, the impact of work stress on work performance for newly-employed teachers was analyzed by taking newly-employed teachers of colleges and universities in Western China as research objects. The analysis results showed that work stress had a significant positive correlation to the challenge stress and a significant negative correlation to the hindrance stress. The task performance and the work performance had a significant positive correlation to the work stress and a significant negative correlation to the hindrance stress. In addition, the work-related happiness partially mediates the relationship between the work stress and the work performance.
Geographical Disparities of Uncertainty Stress and Life Stress among University Students in China

Abstract:Abstract Background Ecological models have emphasized that mental stress both is an individual phenomenon and an environmental outcome. However, many mental stress studies focused primarily on individual variables. Few studies have examined the geographical disparities in mental stress, with no comparable studies implemented on this issue with regard to different type of mental stress. This study investigates geographical variations in overall stress, uncertainty stress and life stress among university students in China. Methods Respondents comprised 11,954 students from 50 universities and 31 provinces in Mainland China. Respondents completed the extended version of the Global Health Professional Student Survey (GHPSS) on Tobacco Control in China. The survey included additional health, mental stress, and behavioral items along with regional variables which were retrieved from the National Bureau of Statistics database. Both unadjusted and adjusted methods were used in the logistic regression analysis. Results Uncertainty stress and life stress prevalence were 19.6% (95% CI: 15.9%, 23.3%) and 8.6% (95% CI: 7.2%, 10.7%) respectively, while overall stress prevalence was 37.2%, 95% CI: 24.7%, 49.7%). All stresses varied widely across the 31 provinces. Random parameters of 0.3971 for life stress, 0.2593 for uncertainty stress, and 0.1449 for overall stress were statistically significantly at the 0.01 level, in terms of their geographical distribution, high life stress was concentrated in central provinces, high uncertainty stress mainly in both central and western provinces, while provinces displaying higher overall stress tended to display a north-south distribution. Multilevel logistic regression showed province level per capital disposable income of households partly contributed to uncertainty stress (OR: 0.52) and life stress (OR: 0.59). Conclusions This study maps the geographical distribution of uncertainty stress, life stress, and overall stress in China. These findings underscore the importance of environmental factors affecting stress levels among university students.
The optimization of human resource management system on alleviation of teachers’ psychological stress in higher education institutions

Abstract:Background With the development of modern education, the psychological stress of young teachers in colleges and universities has been highly emphasized. Subjects and Methods The research will start from three aspects: performance management system, human resource planning, and teacher career management in the human resource management system of universities. In response to the psychological pressure of teachers, five universities will be selected to analyze and study the current situation of human resource management in universities through a combination of survey questionnaires and interviews. The existing problems and reasons will be analyzed. Based on the analysis results, effective optimization plans will be proposed for the human resource management system in universities. Results The results indicate that the main reasons for the psychological pressure of university teachers are the adherence to regulations in the human resource management system, the lack of quantitative accumulation of human resource data, and the neglect of teacher career management. Based on the analysis results, the study designed optimization plans from the aspects of human resource strategic planning system, salary and welfare management system, and teacher career management system. At the same time, the study also established relevant implementation guarantee measures based on the optimization plan to ensure the feasibility of the optimization plan for the human resource management system. Conclusions The study analyzes the relationship between human resource management system and teachers’ psychological pressure in colleges and universities, puts forward the optimization plan of the management system from three levels, and ensures the effective implementation of the optimization plan through the actual work, which is of certain practical reference significance.

A research on sources of university faculty occupational stress: a Chinese case study.

Abstract:Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the stress level of university faculty members, the important determinants of faculty members' stress, and the implications for both faculty members and administrators. Subjects and methods: Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire consisting of 24 questions. Reponses from 240 participants at a Chinese university were analyzed using SPSS software. The descriptive statistics showed the participants' statistical characteristics. Cronbach's a and varimax rotation were used to assess the reliability and validity of the scale. The main statistical methods used were ANOVA and multifactor line regression. Results: University faculty members' occupational stress is widespread across occupational hierarchies. University faculty members are faced with different levels of teaching and scientific research and personal development pressures. Professional ranking, age, and length of teaching make a difference in the level of faculty members' occupational stress. The results can help us confirm that scientific research, professional development, and administrative affairs are significant influencing factors of faculty members' occupational stress. Conclusion: University faculty members' occupational stress is the outcome of structural constraints of university and personal characteristics. On the one hand, the faculty members should recognize the positive impact of occupational stress while striving to eliminate stressors. On the other hand, this empirical study uncovered that the evaluation mechanism based on quantitative performance indicators has greatly increased the occupational pressure on university faculty members.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the status of teacher's stress in middle school,and the relationship between stress & mental health. Methods: 1012 middle school teachers were assessed with the self-designed "teacher's stress questionnaire" and the "Symptom Check List 90"(SCL-90). Results: The teachers were under great stress, which mainly came from social expectation, demanding of dealing with behavior problems of their students in current administrative system, and the family affair. The stress and the total score of SCL-90 had positive correlation (r=0.42,P<0.01). Conclusion: It is meaningful to improve the teacher's mental health by reducing their stress.

Abstract:Analyzing the results of a survey conducted among 309young college teachers from six universities of Jiangsu province with structural equation model shows that the negative effect of life stress on life satisfaction,that of job stress on job status quo satisfaction and that of development stress on job development satisfaction are all quite great and that the positive effect of job development satisfaction and the effect of job stress mediated through job development satisfaction on life satisfaction are also great while the effect of job status quo satisfaction and the effect of job stress mediated through job status quo satisfaction on life satisfaction are quite small.Therefore,it is very important to relieve development stress and improve job development satisfaction.
