Abstract:Objective To compare plasma tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor-1(TRAF1) levels in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) and healthy controls, and to determine the diagnostic value of plasma TRAF1 in IBD and its correlation with endoscopic disease activity. Methods A total of 62 patients with Crohn's disease(CD),64 patients with ulcerative colitis(UC) and 56 healthy controls were enrolled.Enzyme-linked Immuno-sorbent assay(ELISA) was applied to evaluate plasma TRAF1 levels in patients with IBD and in healthy controls.Receiver-operating characteristic(ROC) curves were used to determine the diagnostic value of plasma TRAF1 in CD and UC.Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between plasma TRAF1 and endoscopic disease activity. Results Plasma levels of TRAF1 were significantly higher in CD(P=0.000) and UC(P=0.000) than that in healthy controls.Moreover,TRAF1 showed significant diagnostic value in distinguishing patients with CD,UC and healthy controls(P=0.000).However,plasma TRAF1 showed a very low correlation with endoscopic disease activity in patients with CD(r=-0.260,P=0.041),and no significant correlation was indicated between plasma TRAF1 and endoscopic disease activity in patients with UC(r=0.029,P=0.821).Conclusion Plasma levels of TRAF1 increased in patients with IBD.TRAF1 showed diagnostic value in distinguishing patients with IBD and healthy controls. However, plasma levels of TRAF1 could not reflect endoscopic disease activity.
