Abstract:Mechanical equipments are widely used in various industrial applications. Generally working in severe conditions, mechanical equipments are subjected to progressive deterioration of their state. The mechanical failures account for more than 60% of breakdowns of the system. Therefore, the identification of impending mechanical fault is crucial to prevent the system from malfunction. This paper discusses the most recent progress in the mechanical condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. Excellent work is introduced from the aspects of the fault mechanism research, signal processing and feature extraction, fault reasoning research and equipment development. An overview of some of the existing methods for signal processing and feature extraction is presented. The advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are discussed. The review result suggests that the intelligent information fusion based mechanical fault diagnosis expert system with self-learning and self-updating abilities is the future research trend for the condition monitoring fault diagnosis of mechanical equipments.

Abstract:The development of working condition monitoring and fault diagnosis techniques for mechano-electrical systems based on contemporary techniques is summarized. Methods of monitoring and diagnosis are described. Signal acquisition techniques, signal analysis and processing methods, techniques for fault diagnosis and mechano-electrical system condition trend prediction are summarized. Progressive techniques of remote monitoring and diagnosis based on internet for the inspection of working condition of equipments located at separate places, as well as techniques of monitoring and diagnosis instrument systems based on virtual instrument, are given their prospects.

Abstract:Condition-based maintenance (CBM) detects early signs of failure and dictates when maintenance should be performed based on the actual condition of a system. In this paper, we first review some of the recent research on CBM under various physical structures and signal data. Then, we summarize several kinds of prognostic models that use monitoring information to estimate the reliability of complex systems or products. Monitoring information also facilitates operational decisions in production planning, spare parts management, reliability improvement, and prognostics and health management. Finally, we suggest some research opportunities for the reliability and operations management communities to fill the research gap between these two fields.

Abstract:Due to the isolation between the state monitoring, the fault diagnosis and the maintenance management at present, they could not function very well. To deal with this problem, a strategy for Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) which combined off-line and on-line monitoring and diagnosis was proposed. The working model for CBM was set up. The function model of equipment maintenance management system based on condition monitoring and fault diagnosis was constructed by IDEF. The maintenance management system based on state monitoring and fault diagnosis was developed through network, computer and database technologies. The proposed system could be served as an effective management tool for implementing CBM in power plants.

Abstract:Abstract Machinery will fail due to complex and tough working conditions. It is necessary to apply reliable monitoring technology to ensure their safe operation. Condition-based maintenance (CBM) has attracted significant interest from the research community in recent years. This paper provides a review on CBM of industrial machineries. Firstly, the development of fault diagnosis systems is introduced systematically. Then, the main types of data in the field of the fault diagnosis are summarized. After that, the commonly used techniques for the signal processing, fault diagnosis, and remaining useful life (RUL) prediction are discussed, and the advantages and disadvantages of these existing techniques are explored for some specific applications. Typical fault diagnosis products developed by corporations and universities are surveyed. Lastly, discussions on current developing situation and possible future trends are in the CBM performed.

Abstract:A new condition-based maintenance(CBM) system for transmission and transformation equipment was presented which was developed and first applied to a 500 kV substation of East China Power Grid.In this system,a series of on-line monitoring technologies were used,i.e.dissolved gases analysis(GDA),partial discharge(PD),DC bias,and core earthing current monitoring.Several advanced methods such as artificial neural network(ANN) and rough set theory(RST) were also used to diagnose transformer′s faults during operation.The case study proved the CBM system effective and useful.

Abstract:Aiming at the safe and statistical operation requirements of the power transmission systemcannot be met by condition based maintenance( CBM) decision-making results for individual device,from an entire system prospect,the concept of CBM for power transmission system was proposed,and a maintenance decision-makingmodel based on D-S evidence theory was established. Under the consideration of the real-time correlation between the devices,and the system both,the guiding principles were also summarized which are the basic of the combination and selection of all possible schemes based on the individual decision-making,and then the collection of the possible schemes of the system can be selected out. Then,thedecision-making indicators which are the reflection of the safety,reliability and economy of the power transmission system were established,and their quantitative methods were given. The optimalscheme can be selected out by the established model of which the evidences are these independent indicators and the BPA values are the normalized values of the indicators beneath each possible scheme. The numerical result shows that,the individual equipment and the entire power transmission system are both on a safety operation level.

Abstract:The condition-based maintenance (CBM) is an advanced maintenance program that recommends optimal maintenance policy based on information collected through condition monitoring techniques. At present, CBM was paid attention to widely. The paper theoretically discussed the structure of a complete CBM system based upon the combing and analysis of the current large numbers of literatures of CBM. Firstly, CBM is introduced. Secondly, the three main stages of CBM work process is given. Finally, the basic structural frame of a complete CBM system is designed and constructed according to a series of functions CBM system should implement.

Abstract:Condition based maintenance (CBM) is a powerful tool for improvement of system reliability and reduction of system downtime. This research considers CBM under which the system state is periodically observed with or without observational error, and maintenance is imperfect. System availability is maximized by determining the optimal maintenance threshold and the time interval between consecutive inspections of the state of the system. The optimal solution can be obtained numerically using a sequential uniform design algorithm.

Abstract:This article intends to unveil the recent trend of research work with proper justification and surveying in the field of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. For attaining such results, a total of 177 articles from 57 journals are reviewed in this article. Condition monitoring is a procedure in predictive maintenance which deals with preventing an impending failure. This provides the manufacturing unit with the capability for improved production rate by obviating the downtime and in reducing maintenance and operation cost. Many types of errors or defects can occur in different equipments while the plant is in operation. Therefore, it is essential to track continuously the pattern of errors or changes in certain parameters like voltage, current, pressure, flow, strain, vibration, temperature, etc. The greatest advantage of fault diagnosing or condition monitoring is that it alerts the operator about the impending failure after detecting the changes in the respective parameters. Fault patterns and diagnosis of several equipments and machineries have been reported in the literature and this review systematically presents their classification under multiple categories.

Abstract:A multi-sensor and multi-parameter condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system is designed and implemented for modern manufacturing systems, such as flexible manufacturing cells and systems. The overall hardware and software designs of this system, together with the functional sub-systems, are presented. This implemented system monitors power, vibration, temperature and pressure of the drives and spindles with a total of 72 diagnostic features and uses a cost-weighted function to identify diagnostic solutions with the lowest cost. Condition monitoring, data acquisition, knowledge acquisition and representation, as well as the diagnostic reasoning strategy of the knowledge-base system are presented in detail. The system was implemented and tested in a textile plant with satisfactory results.

Abstract:For manufacturing systems, product quality and machine reliability are two key health indicators, which usually deteriorate as a result of machine deterioration. Maintenance can mitigate the machine deterioration and consequently improve product quality and machine reliability. In this context, we propose a quality and reliability oriented condition-based maintenance (CBM) policy for the serial multistage manufacturing systems. In the policy, the conditions of quality-related components are monitored to evaluate the quality loss of final products and the system failure rate, which are further compared with the corresponding thresholds to decide whether to trigger preventive maintenance (PM). When PM is triggered, a cost-based improvement factor is introduced to identify the importance ranking of PM groups and then determine a group of machines for PM. This factor is developed based on importance measure and jointly considers the improvement of quality and reliability and the reduction of maintenance costs. A multi-level CBM decision-making process is developed to evaluate the total cost over the planning horizon for decision optimization. The effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed CBM policy is demonstrated through a case study of a serial four-stage machining system producing shaft sleeves.
