Abstract:This article introduces the theoretical basis of the Length Approach and the basic idea of the Length Approach, and explains the teaching design of the Length Approach which includes the teaching goal, teaching methods, classroom teaching, evaluation and feedback.For a long time, writing has always been one of the weakest links in college English teaching in China. College English textbooks in China indicate that writing is one part of intensive reading, or more accurately, subordinate to vocabulary practice and grammar drill. Compared with other language skills, less than enough class time is allocated to writing, and little preparation is done for written work in class. The teaching of writing in the English teaching classroom often goes this way: the teacher gives a topic or a selection of topics, a set of requirements, and a time limit. The students finish the task within the time limit and hand in the final product, and then receive a grade, perhaps a response and another assignment. The efficiency of writing course is very low. Students' poor performance in the CET-4 (College English Test Band-4) and CET-6 (College English Test Band-6) can serve as an illustration of the low efficiency.Teaching English writing is always the most difficult part of English education in China. Because writing is just a part of intensive reading, there are few course periods for teaching it in class. Therefore, teachers have no time to pay much attention to the teaching of writing which is thought to be time-consuming and inefficient. In order to pass CET-4 or CET-6, a cram session for composition guidance has become a common teaching mode in most colleges. Students are lack of real communicative desire, and their subjective initiative and creative thinking are limited. The lag of writing teaching has resulted in a serious imbalance between the input and the output, affecting the students' language knowledge internalization. In this case, the Length Approach, advocated by Professor Wang Chuming, comes into being and brings a new enlightenment to the college English writing teaching.

Abstract:The introduction of Outcomes-based Education (OBE) in College English teaching can help to carry out student-oriented education. The OBE teaching method is guided by students' learning outcomes, and it can feedback the continuous improvement. Based on the OBE teaching concept, this paper presents a continuous improvement method for college English teaching based on quantitative analysis of course objective achievement. Based on this method, the teaching effect of College English can be evaluated quantitatively, and weaknesses in teaching can be found to implement a closed-loop of continuous improvement. The methods presented in this paper can improve the quantitative evaluation methods of College English teaching quality and provide strong support for the continuous improvement of College English teaching. Abstract:Abstract College English teaching has formed a long-term historical persistent problem in the process of higher education expansion, and it is urgent to explore its development dilemma and corresponding countermeasures. This study uses hierarchical analysis to analyze the connection between relevant factors in English teaching activities, constructs a judgment matrix for teaching evaluation, establishes the index ordering through a consistency test, and applies intuitive fuzzy logic to establish the index weights. At the same time, a genetic algorithm was applied to the weight optimization process to iterate the better matrix indicator weights. After verifying the optimization effect through experiments, the comprehensive assessment method was applied to specific teaching cases and analyzed. The comprehensive evaluation results of students, teachers, and experts were obtained respectively, the latter being [0.3459 0.2961 0.1848 0.1086 0.0636]. The final evaluation result of the university English teaching case is [0.3358 0.2790 0.1874 0.1272 0.0695], which corresponds to the grade of “general”. Through the evaluation of university English teaching, the difficulties of current English teaching are fed back, which lays the foundation for the countermeasures to be put forward.

Abstract:To develop the “Guidelines on College English Teaching” in China, the evaluation group of the National Advisory Committee for College Foreign Language Teaching (NACCFLT) under the Ministry of Education recently conducted a survey of the needs for the reform of College English curriculum evaluation. Data were collected from 571 teachers and 1266 students in 21 universities in various parts of the country. This paper, based on a review of the development of College English curriculum evaluation in the past three decades and drawing on the survey results, puts forward some suggestions which are intended to provide a foundation for formulating the evaluation component of the Guidelines.

Abstract:Since March 2003, reform in college English education has been carried out in a certain range and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education has launched Curriculum Requirements of College English. In January, 2004, the Ministry of Education examined and approved 180 institutions of higher learning to be the first batch of "pilot colleges for College English teaching reform ". So far, College English teaching has entered a wider range of pilot phase, providing preparation for national the teaching reform. The author has made a beneficial attempt, with members of related project groups, on cultivating integrated capacity of using English for students from non-English major, further to this, they have conducted relevant project studies and practices in subsequent years, putting forward the assumption of innovative teaching mode and carrying out reasonable design of implementation.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of the present college English teaching in China, this paper puts forward a new theory that Chinese college English teaching is now entering upon a critical stage of transition in history, a stage characterized by the increasingly fuzzy divide between ELT at the secondary level and at the tertiary level (also between English major and non-English major), and the shift of ELT from uniformity to individuality. Abstract:The increase in the number of colleges and universities has brought great pressure to college English teaching. How to improve the teaching efficiency of English mode is an urgent problem to be solved. This article mainly studies the improvement of English teaching mode based on computer image assistance. In the preexperiment test, a unified English final test paper was selected, and the scores of 40 students were entered into the computer. The experimental group chose the English teaching mode of computer-assisted teaching. The control group still used traditional teaching methods to learn. At the end of the experiment, the students in the experimental group and the control group were given a posttest of writing in their respective classrooms, and the teachers gave their scores according to the scoring standard of the college entrance examination. SPSS 17.0 software is used to analyze the students’ scores, and the experimental results are obtained by comparing the changes of students’ scores before and after the test. In groups, tasks are done together, but it also helps students develop a correct sense of collective responsibility and fair play. Students can evaluate team members from the aspects of activity enthusiasm and learning participation. Students’ self-assessment can be evaluated objectively by observing their preclass learning level, chapter task completion, class attendance, group cooperation participation, and so on. In terms of learning motivation, the average value of students’ online learning initiative consciousness (3.04) and the average value of learning interest (3.05) are slightly higher than 3. The results show that computer image-assisted teaching can maximize the use of classrooms to improve students’ opportunities to use language and fully reflect students’ role as the main body of practice in English learning.

This paper studies the present situation of English teaching at home and abroad, finds out the advantages and disadvantages of English teaching resources in China through literature retrieval, interview and questionnaire survey. Under the guidance of constructionist teaching theory, humanistic education theory and developmental evaluation theory, this paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of English teaching resources in China based on the development characteristics of contemporary college students and the contents of current college English courses. According to the teaching principle of “student-centered, process oriented, communication oriented, people-oriented”, this paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of domestic English teaching resources The results show that: from the perspective of the purpose of College English learning, to improve students’ comprehensive ability and quality, the proportion is the highest, accounting for 26%.
