Abstract:It is essential for modem Chinese protected agriculture to be equipped with feasible high-tech facilities in terms of economic cost as well as user applicability. This paper presented a low-cost greenhouse monitoring and control system composed by ARM7 based controller, smart networked sensor and actuator modules based on Ethernet communication. According to the IEEE1451 protocol, the smart networked sensor module contained smart plug-and-play sensor module with three analog inputs and a network capable application processor (NCAP) which was capable for Ethernet. The smart actuator module contained an actuator module with fifteen on-off outputs and a same NCAP with different IP address. The ARM7 based controller, which was the key part of the whole system, was configured by L CD, touch screen, serial port, and Ethernet interface to replace the common computer. The management software developed by emGUI can be easily operated by using touch screen. Compared with traditional greenhouse monitoring and control system equipped with a computer, the above system is quite low-cost and applicable. As an explorative application of embedded system and advanced industry technology in protected agriculture, the system has been developed by modular design and practically applied in our greenhouse.
