Abstract:For some planar Newtonian N+3-body problems, we use variational minimization methods to prove the existence of new periodic solutions satisfying that N bodies chase each other on a curve, and the other 3 bodies chase each other on another curve. From the definition of orbit spaces in our paper, we can find that they are new solutions which are also different from all the examples of Ferrario and Terracini (2004).

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the existence of a family of new non-collision periodic solutions for the classical Newtonian n-body problems. In our assumption, the ${n=2l \geqq 4}$ particles are invariant under the dihedral rotation group D l in ${\mathbb{R}^3}$ such that, at each instant, the n particles form two twisted l-regular polygons. Our approach is the variational minimizing method and we show that the minimizers are collision-free by level estimates and local deformations.

Abstract:We study the existence of non-collision periodic solutions with Newtonian potentials for the following planar restricted 4-body problems: Assume that the given positive masses m_1,m_2,m_3 in a Lagrange configuration move in circular obits around their center of masses, the sufficiently small mass moves around some body. Using variational minimizing methods, we prove the existence of minimizers for the Lagrangian action on anti-T/2 symmetric loop spaces. Moreover, we prove the minimizers are non-collision periodic solutions with some fixed wingding numbers.

Abstract:In this paper, by using variational methods, we study the existence of nonplanar periodic solutions for the following spatial restricted 3-body and 4-body problems: for N=2 3 , N mass points with positive masses m_1,…,m_N move in a central configuration (for N=2 , two bodies are in a Euler configuration; for N=3 , three bodies are in a Lagrange configuration), and they move in the plane of N circular obits; the N+1 th mass point, called the zero mass point, moves on the perpendicular axis passing through the center of the masses.
A New Class of Symmetric Periodic Solutions of the Spatial Elliptic Restricted Three-Body Problem

Abstract:We show that there exists a new class of symmetric periodic solutions of the spatial elliptic restricted three-body problem. In such a solution, the infinitesimal body is confined to the vicinity of a primary and moves on a nearly circular orbit. This orbit is almost perpendicular to the orbital plane of the primaries, where the line of symmetry of the orbit lies. The existence is shown by applying a corollary of Arenstorf’s fixed point theorem to a periodicity equation system of the problem. And this existence doesn’t require any restriction on the mass ratio of the primaries, nor on the eccentricity of their relative elliptic orbit. Potential relevance of this new class of periodic solutions to real celestial body systems and the follow-up studies in this respect are also discussed.

Abstract:We present 1349 families of Newtonian periodic planar three-body orbits with unequal mass and zero angular momentum and the initial conditions in case of isosceles collinear configurations. These 1349 families of the periodic collisionless orbits can be divided into seven classes according to their geometric and algebraic symmetries. Among these 1349 families, 1223 families are entirely new, to the best of our knowledge. Furthermore, some periodic orbits have the same free group element for different mass. We find that the scale-invariant average period linearly increases with the mass of one body when the masses of the other two are constant. It is suggested that the masses of bodies may play an important role in periodic three-body systems. The movies of these periodic orbits are given on the website .

Abstract:For $n$-body problem with arbitrary positive masses, we prove there are regularizable collinear periodic solutions for any ordering of the masses, going from a simultaneous binary collision to another in half of a period with half of the masses moving monotonically to the right and the other half monotonically to the left. When the masses satisfy certain equality condition, the solutions have extra symmetry. This also gives a new proof of the existence of Schubart orbit, when $n=3$.

Abstract:Currently, the fifteen new periodic solutions of Newtonian three-body problem with equal mass were reported by \v{S}uvakov and Dmitra\v{s}inovi\'{c} (PRL, 2013) [1]. However, using a reliable numerical approach (namely the Clean Numerical Simulation, CNS) that is based on the arbitrary-order Taylor series method and data in arbitrary-digit precision, it is found that at least seven of them greatly depart from the periodic orbits after a long enough interval of time. Therefore, the reported initial conditions of at least seven of the fifteen orbits reported by \v{S}uvakov and Dmitra\v{s}inovi\'{c} [1] are not accurate enough to predict periodic orbits. Besides, it is found that these seven orbits are unstable.
