Laparoscopic Cyst Decortication in Adults with Polycystic Kidney

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the clinical value of laparoscopic treatment of polycystic kidney.Methods:Fifty cases of polycystic kidney(male,22 cases;female,33 cases),with the average age of 48 years old(range 38～55) were diagnosed by doppler ultrasound,SCT and IVU.50 cases(67 sides) underwent laparoscopic cyst decortication, 17 patients with bilateral(5 cases over the same period,12 cases completed in phases) cyst decortication, 33 cases with unilateral cyst decortication.The clinical symptoms and renal function were observed after operation. Results:All operations were successful,no case convert to open surgery.The average operation time was 85 min,the average blood loss was 45 ml.2 cases appeared urine leak,which was about 200-600 ml fluid from drainage tube everyday,and recovered 10 days later.And the rest cases had no obvious complications.The average hospital stay after operation was 7 days.Polycystic kidneys were diagnosed by postoperative pathological examination without malignant lesions.42 cases were followed up for 6-30 months(means 12 months).Low back pain reduced 26/31 cases;normal blood pressure 10/22 cases,declined than the preoperative 12/22 cases;normal BUN and Cr 8/18 cases,declined than the preoperative 10/18 cases.Reviewed by doppler ultrasound,postoperative renal volume significantly reduced.Conclusions:Laparoscopic cyst decortication shows benefits in prolonging the nature course and improving the renal function of the patients.It's an effective,mini- invasive,and easy operating method for the treatment of polycystic kidney.
