Expression of Apoptotic Inhibiting Gene Survivin and Uterine Cervical Carcinogenesis

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the role of survivin in the development of uterine cervical carcinoma.Methods:60 patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN),32 patients with cervical invasive carcinoma and 25 cases of normal cervical tissues were involved in this study.Apoptotic index was assessed in situ by TUNEL.Expression of survivin protein was detected by the S-P immunohistochemical.Comparing the difference of apoptotic index and the expression of survivin protein among the groups.Results:The TUNEL staining index was significantly decreased (P＜0.05)with progression of the cervical neoplasm, but there are no difference between CINⅢand cervical invasive carcinoma.All the normal cervical tissues were negative in the expression of surviving gene.With the development of cervical endoepithetial lesions,the positive expression of survivin gene was increased with significant difference(P＜0.05).A significant negative correlation was found between apoptosis index and the expression of survivin (P＜0.01).Conclusion:These results suggest that the apoptosis is associated with the early process of cervical carcinogenesis and apoptotic inhibiting gene survivin plays an important role in the progression from CIN to the cer- vical cancer.
